- The late, great John Hartford tells the story of when he first heard Texas Shorty play Dusty Miller. This was Rockygrass 2000, the last time Shorty saw Hartford before he died. For more info on Texas Shorty, go to www.texasshorty.com
I remember this day. Shorty was very gracious and friendly. Hartford was like a kid in a candy store. I never saw the video before. Beings we were sitting behind John I couldn't see that he was so emotionally effected by Shorty's performance. Just goes to show, no matter how accomplished a person gets, there's always somebody that will, in Hartford's words, "knock your hat in the creek". Thanks for posting.
there has to be a tune called "knock your hat in the creek..." if not........
I know what you mean. I saw this and thought I was going to bounce off all four of these walls! I can't tell you what a thrill it is to be able to listen to and sometimes get to see these wonderful moments. Keep playing, Mike!
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow lost my password. I would love any help you can offer me.
@Fox Braydon Instablaster =)
@Ezekiel Darian Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I could listen to this everyday.
Thanks so much for sharing this, can't get enough of Hartford! (So sad to see him like this though.)
👍🎵👍🎶👍🎵..
Great music and Great fiddling. Thanks for posting!!
Two of my heroes. Have met TX Shorty many times but only admired John from afar. Knew they were buds . Little different from his contest days. But soooooo good. Thanks for posting.
Love it! Also I love his bowing style. May have to move to Texas one day, just so I can listen to folks playing like that. Around here (northeast Mississippi and central Tennessee) it seems that everybody is more choppy, not as smooth. I really miss John Hartford too.
I just live that baritone voice
Hard to believe this was 14 years ago now...
No matter how well I played, if someone gave me an intro like that, I'd muff the tune for sure
This man is a GOD.
holy shit! i've never seen this, amazing stuff :)
Thanks for sharing this!
If you ever want to trade Hartford dvd's.. let me know!
VALE John Hartford. A better old-time style musician - who did so very much in keeping the old traditions alive so well & for so long, will not be found for a long time to come. JH was also an engrossing story-teller ..his tale told here is a perfect demo of these rare traits. And Texas Shorty is a fine companion for JH here as well. All serious JH fans should already have his very last album "Hamilton Ironworks" in their music collections. Gene Goforth's Rounder CD is also a must-get !!

Texas cool...
Bob Carlin on banjo
John mentions that TX shorty had a boy with him at Weiser....does his son play?
The little boy was Texas Shorty..
Start at 3:00.
I wish you didn't have to pull the religion card... Regardless, this is seriously one of the best fiddle jobs I have heard on the internet! One of my favorite songs and I never get tired of hearing it.
Guess I missed that.
