I feel like this video just points out how even within marginalized communities, there are stereotypes. Like Brevin getting out over Rob because Brevin sounded "priviledge".
It proves that we force our own stereotypes onto each other. Brevin said he's been treated as too white for black people, too black for white people. We really need to stop gatekeeping each other!
Stereotypes are normal. It's a part of how humans process this much information every day. It's impossible to be rid of them, it's just knowing that people are more complicated than that and not having any hostile or demeaning impressions as a result of that and gatekeeping things

ngl, I had to go watch the original to focus on what they were talking about rather than having toast and syd talking over them, then came back hear to hear their comments on the show.... After watching it without toast and syd's reactions, it was pretty believable to me that he could fit in, it's just that in this video, their reactions made me think the guy was forcing it too much when he actually wasn't. As someone said in the original video, they managed to find the most black white guy out there for this
What I really like about this clip is that it also greatly demonstrates racial bias. Toast and Syd pointing out that he might be putting up a voice, that the problem/story of “Milk” wasn’t as heartfelt of an issue. But those things are all part of who they were. He’s been through the system, his story rings true to him, what he talks about seems to be who he is but it feels like their person is a persona simply because we don’t know the context.
I loved the brotherhood amongst those men in the video. It really made me happy just to see some wholesome bonding and their knowledge on current issues.

As a white guy, I can say we do the pursed lips head-nod thing to every guy we walk by that we don't know, never was racist or even disrespectful, just an acknowledgment.
I wish I could find a way to express this without sounding defensive lol. Anyone I'm not deeply familiar with gets the 'pursed lips quarter-smile with a small nod' if we make eye contact, I was genuinely surprised the first time I heard a black guy talk about feeling negatively when getting that expression from white people.
I find it really insightful that all of them didn't like the victimization of black people. Like they want to their struggles to be acknowledged, but they know the black community could be doing more to improve their situation and make things better. Spits right in the face of "black people are lazy" arguments.

Sydney had such a bad case of confirmation bias, it's easy to point out Rob's answers when you know it's him and you can nitpick his answers. It's much harder when you have a blindfold on and you don't have a clue who it is so you're suspicious of everyone.
