    What do you all think about the changes? Did anyone else have a change in heart after calculating the new benefits? 😎

      Trip Astute yeah, I’m keeping my CSP. Amex platinum is taking on the travel perks I wanted. I know things swing back and forth. Instead if a CSR I’ll go for a Delta platinum or reserve. I’m gardening right now but NFCU Flagship is top of my list when I’m ready.

      I appreciate your videos Ernest. I signed up for the CSR last year after watching one of your videos. Does the trip cancellation/ interruption coverage weigh into the value of the card?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +4

      Thanks! I didn't factor the trip cancelation and lost/delayed baggage into my equation since it's hard to quantify, but there is definitely value there (even if it's just peace of mind). I used the primary rental car insurance since it's the easiest to quantify in the calculation. 🤓

    Great video Ernest! (and so much clearer than AskSebby...). Nice to see that after a week finally the math and logic start to take over again among the CZcamsrs, after all those initial knee-jerk reactions. I have my own spreadsheets, so for me, it was already clear that the CSR is still a keeper!

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +4

      Thanks! I didn't realize that Sebby did the same topic today as well. I love his web-based calculator. I need to learn how to do something similar (instead of just sharing a Google Sheet). 🤓
      Glad to hear that you still get value from the CSR too. It's definitely a keeper for me as well!

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah, I was guilty of the same reaction too. It's hard too since I felt like a lot of content creators were trashing the card changes as soon as they were announced. Though I'm glad that the numbers are working out for a lot of people. 😊

    I don't always "smash the like button", but this video was well worth it. Thank you for running all of the numbers for us. My experience has been similar with my initial visceral reaction to the new changes, but I may still come out on top even running a UR and MR set up.
    Thanks!

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +3

  • @falcoperegrinus2292
    @falcoperegrinus2292 Před 4 lety +1

    Great video, as usual. The $550 annual fee was a bit jarring at first. I used your spreadsheet and plugged in the numbers using the year end summary Chase provides. I get a ridiculous amount of value out of the CSR at $450. But I also see that I'll get more than enough value out of it in 2020 with the $550 annual fee. I do a ton of ride sheets (no drinking and driving when indulging in nightlife!) and l usually chose whichever is cheaper between Lyft and Uber. So I'll just be usin Lyft now for that sweet 10x back! I use UberEats as well, but I downloaded DoorDash and got a couple of free dinners with the $60 credit and have about $25 bucks left to use. Considering everything, the $550 annual fee is a huge upfront fee, but I still come out on top by a huge margin. Thanks for the great spreadsheet! Really put everything in perspective for me!

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! I'm glad the video and spreadsheet were useful. I was also surprised at the value that I am able to get from the card, even with some modest numbers and assumptions. 🤓

  • @donovanthompson720
    @donovanthompson720 Před 4 lety +3

    Since you are able to transfer UR points from the freedom and ink cards that have zero annual fees. I would think if you have those cards you can take this into your personal calculations.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +3

      That's true. If you have multiple cards that earn Chase UR points, then there is additional value there (though it's hard to quantify). It's like when comparing two points of equal value (e.g., Southwest and Chase UR point) -- they're both worth the same exact "value", but I still prefer the Chase UR point since it's more flexible. 😄

    Based on my current spending patterns I’m not a fan of the changes, but my spending patterns could change before my $550 AF hits so I’m keeping an open mind. Even before the changes were announced I was considering evaluating my entire set up based on my spending from the past year. I’ll be putting together a spreadsheet to see if another setup will give me more value.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +2

      It's good that you're tracking it to see if you get value from the changes. Just out of curiosity -- are you looking at Amex or something else?

      Trip Astute I plan to do my due diligence and check Amex, Citi and cash back setups.

    Ernest,
    Great video man such a good breakdown I like how you said that it depends on your spend and whether you can use the credits. If you don't travel more than once or twice a year it may not make sense to have the CSR over the CSP? Congrats on the marriage man I know it's a little late. What cards you looking forward to in 2020? A what's in your wallet for February coming out soon? 🙂 Love the content man.

    Not upgrading as I don’t use rideshare more than twice a year and never use food delivery services
    Will only apply for this card when I’m eligible for bonus in 2022

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +2

      That makes sense. I wonder what new offers and cards will be available in 2022 as well. I know everyone always predicts doom and gloom in the hobby, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see new and better offers in the future. 🤓

    I was fixing my credit so that I can apply for the CSR. I live in NYC and will benefit a lot with these new benefits. I didn't know they increased the AF but after convincing myself that this was the card I was going to get , now I am not so sure. The $550 is pretty steep but is there another CC that compares with this card and AF that will give me awesome travel benefits?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety

      There are a lot of cards out there with similar benefits. Off the top of my head, I think the Amex Green, US Bank Altitude Reserve, Amex Gold, and Citi Prestige are all competitive options as well. Though if you're looking to stay within the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, I think the Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred are worth considering as well.
