    The great English summer weather, three seasons in one day, plus flooding to boot!!! Amazing to see the flow of the Trent in full flood. That was a lovely walk, Ant. Really enjoy these canal walks.

      Couldn't agree more! The flooding seemed to follow me around for few months afterwards. Glad you are enjoying them :)

    Recent subscriber to this channel as i'm Derby born & bred and i enjoy anything East Midland related when it comes to the great outdoors. Growing up in the 60's & 70's i always used to rue the fact that the Derby Canal which ran to Swarkestone had long since gone. But i do remember quite vividly until around the late 1970's that probably a couple of hundred yards of it still ran from Swarkestone with the banks intact full of water and even had water reeds growing. We used to cycle along it to get to the main T&M canal at Swarkestone lock to do our fishing for Gudgeon, and if we were lucky a Perch or Roach. Days of my halcyon youth now just a distant memory.

      Hi Ryan, thanks for watching 🙂 I'd like to get around to doing what remains of the Derby Canal eventually. I've just last week done the Trent and Mersey Canal between Kings Newton and Willington via Swarkestone 🙂

    That was a really lovely relaxing video, just what's needed for a Sunday morning. The Trent in flood looks so powerful, it's not hard to imagine the destruction it can cause. Shardlow seems to be a beautiful place, I'm envious of the people living there, it seems so peaceful. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this canal walk pans out.

      @@TrekkingExploration Yes I'm around, I replied to your FB comment but to be honest I'm not too sure how it works and may well have sent my reply into cyber space!!! Apologies. I have personal training clients at various slots during the day, but will be able to get to you at some point, especially if you are at Benniworth. My number is on my FB page so contact me through that, cheers.

      Hi Stephen. I've been sat on this one for a long time, waiting until I had more filmed and covid put a big postponement on that. I'm looking to carry on in the next fortnight. I've done a few canals now, but to me this is a popular one with long history

    There is an old lock and mill ruins just down the lane from Weston-on-Trent lock and turn right, used when the river Trent was navigable... also if you turn right along the cycle track there is the ruins of an old railway yard in the woods that was used in the Second World War... also down the lane from the lock at Weston , turn left and there is a post where the ferry used to go across, operated by a lady called Holly Rowbotham 😊

    • @TrekkingExploration
      @TrekkingExploration  Před 4 lety

      I'll keep an eye out for the mill when I go back in a couple of weeks. I did manage to find the engine shed lost in the Woods on the Derby side of the Trent. I didn't look the other side where the yard was. I'll do that Next time too 😊

    Loved the footage of the canal, I have actually traveled the full length of the T&M from the Trent Junction right up to Preston Brook.
    It was at Preston Brook where the canal joined the Bridgewater Canal to travel to Runcorn and until the late 1960's there were locks here for you to go down to the River Mersey. Hence its name.
