    Beautiful property Joe. A few suggestions. As an owner of a 97 acre farm, my first piece of advice is to know and mark your property lines. Well-known property lines make for good neighbors. If you have to hire a surveyor to get those lines, it is worth the money. Is any of your land in preservation? You could cut your property tax bill if you could put some land in agricultural or conservation preservation. People think a large hunk of land is like a state park. You'd be surprised how many folks have driven ATVs, snowmobiles, and even horses on my property without asking any kind of permission. I've had people ride ATVs over the crops just after they were planted! Let it be known that your land is private property, not a state park. Post no trespassing signs. It looks like you could really benefit from a Bush Hog type of mower. It could easily take care of all that brush. Finally, when you have a large piece of land, you have to think big. Don't buy small pieces of equipment, "toys" as I call them. You need horsepower and versatility. You can't maintain that much land with the same pieces of equipment that someone from the suburbs would buy. A skid steer (with forks and bucket), backhoe, 40+HP tractor and bush hog-type mower are absolute must-haves. Oh, as well as a whole-house generator. I'm excited for you and Melissa! You have a lot to look forward to!

      johnroosterrod65@gmail.com Yes, I agree with BigWinHunter, There were people from the 'outside' that were deer hunting on your new land. Even though they had deer stands, it's now yours! Then there is a chance that wounded deer will travel to your property once they were hit on another piece of land. I believe they can go on your property to retrieve the deer. I guess it's one of the things that come with owning such a great place! Semper Fidelis

    I would imagine there is an abundance of diamond willow on the property too. Good for furniture and stuff. I make lamps, candle holders, and canes from what I can find on my land. Since I need a cane to walk, it got my started making and selling them. But mostly just giving them away to those that need them. The creation is where I get the most enjoyment anyway. Kinda like you with your beautiful furniture.

    Awesome spread, Joe! Don't brush hog or cut all that brushy stuff where the pastures were! That is making the deer feel safe. It's full of weeds and the kind of newer growth they can eat. If you shave the land too much, the deer won't stick around!

    Hi Joe, Great place. I didn't know the new house was actually more of a homestead. lol. I know you get a lot of "you should do..." I'm not going to say that. This is what I would do...;)...mow, disc, clear whatever you want to call it, the grassy areas. I would leave the brush. It makes excellent habitat for the deer along the food plots...if that were in my plans. :) It will be fun watching upcoming videos of the house and the projects/improvements to come. Great video as always.

    Wow that is just so nice Joe. That's a lot bigger than I thought lol. I'm glad you've decided to make it a type of refuge for the deer to come and hang out and you guys enjoy, I can see sitting at the dinner table looking out the window at the wildlife coming up into the yard, I'm really surprised there not a lot of Grouse there also with the tember and fields you have and water source it's like all the elements are there, water, cover, and food. That warm farmhouse appealing look with everything in the background is just awesome. You guys are so lucky to have come across such a beautiful place. I like the plans you have in store for future development. Lol if you ever need a hired hand to come work I'm really cheap haha. Anyway awesome update and now off to deer camp lol or The Tent. Ask your local fire department and see if they would set the that old house on fire and use it for training. That is what is done up here in Ontario. The firefighters love them for training as they are not typical. Worth a shot!

      @BS0821 Před 5 lety +1

      barfass I think he would have to strip the roofing/pull out a lot of the non-environmentally friendly materials.. prob wouldn't be worth it. I feel like a weekend with a rented excavator would make light work of it and youd be able to get other jobs done with the equipment as well

      @bobkd5fjd823 Před 5 lety +3

      Yep we did that at every department I was with over the years. Serves 2 purposes, 1) great training for new or unseasoned fire personnel plus its controlled and 2) saves the woods if it were to catch and by the time the fire department gets there sparks, etc. would, could start grass and leaves on fire and spread big time even to other structures. Fire can spread much faster than many people believe. Barca’s that was actually an awesome suggestion and saves a lot of time having to tear it down and then disposing of the wood, etc. that is unless there is plans for the wood and other stuff. Great suggestion and worthy of the ‘Round 2 It Award”!
