The thing I love about Postal 1's ending is that there is NO 'victory..'
There are no rewards, no sign of winning, just an Ending.
An Ending to the Dude's Madness after the Demon left him leading to what he's done.

What. A postal 1 review. With no moralizing, no guilt tripping target audience, no hate speech against the outcasts of society, no preaching about how pixels on screen are evil? Just an actual adult discussion of an adult topic? Consider myself shocked, it's a wonderful review, I hope it gets popular.

I've seen a theory that the Postal Dude from the first game is a war veteran suffering from a very bad traumatic breakdown. I think the art of him backied into a corner while clutching his rifle like it's the only thing that can keep him safe in the entire world backs this up pretty well.

What I like about the Redux ending is, by having Christopher Corey Cruise deliver the ending monologue, it takes the series-wide running gag of the various voice actors who've voiced the Dude play against each other and gives it a much more grim spin.

When it comes to why these tragedies happen people want easy answers to a difficult question, for someone to snap like that allt has to go wrong in their life, for me it was being taken away from home, not being listened to in said grouphome and school, being told my autism basically makes me mentally challenged when its not, being bullied and being put on medication I didn’t need causing me to have psychosis. You don’t just wake up with homicidal urges, they build up under a giant pile of shit being thrown at you when you’re vulnerable

I love Postal 1 mostly for the atmosphere/aesthetic, it's really unique. The music is especially great.
The game had me in a really weird detached headspace on my playthrough, more melancholic than any. I was enamored by the story/journal entries, it really hits different having experienced mental illness. It's weird to say but I was kinda immersed.
Personally I think the Dude is implied to have SEVERE schizophrenia (the majority of schizophrenic people aren't extremely violent lol). He has extreme delusions that a delusionsal person could actually believe irl.

The thing that always hurt me the most about Columbine is that any single adult in either Eric or Dylan's life could have stopped it at any point if they only paid the bare minimum amount of attention or cared at all. And it has nothing to do with rock music or video games, these kids - Eric especially - gave out every single warning sign imaginable, there was every chance to stop them from getting weapons, from spiraling out of control, to "discover" their out in the open plans, someone just had to pay attention and say something and the lives of so many people could have been saved.
When I was a kid, and bullied in school, the initial impact it had on me and in school was way more than just the metal detectors: the bullying fucking STOPPED. People started to crack down on that shit, it wasn't like now where we have school staff and students trying to be more socially aware of what's going on and call out toxic behavior just because it's the right thing to do, though. No, it stopped because we were scared. Most of the news was looking for a scape goat, but as kids it was extremely simple to us, when you push people too far, they snap, and there were some kids who were pushed.
Of course that simplistic understanding doesn't really tell the whole story, and is in and of itself, of course, rather famously, a part of the problem. Adults found their scapegoats in the form of music and video games and then they just... moved on. We had metal detectors in schools for a while and then we just... moved on. It was like a jumpscare or something, everyone was afraid that it could happen again, and everyone thought they knew the answer, and after a few years of it not happening again, we just allowed ourselves to think we were right, and just sort of relaxed, thinking the moment had passed.
But nobody learned anything, and now it happens every other week. I don't keep up with this stuff anymore, because how could you? It's one of the most emotionally draining things in the world, and there's just too much to keep up with. But Columbine changed my whole outlook on the world, so at least in that case I can say with certainty that it could have EASILY been stopped, many, many times. This is also probably true of every mass shooting since. The circumstances of stopping them are almost certainly not the same, but if you think about it rationally... mass shootings aren't, like... in us. Could you do that? Could I do that? Do you know anyone who could do that? It doesn't come out of nowhere, is my point, people don't just decide this, nobody is "just one bad day" away from mass murder. It would have to take a LOT of circumstances piled on top of each other to create a situation like this, and every one of those is an opportunity for an intervention.
I still think a lot about Columbine because it was such a huge turning point, and the thing that I still think is the absolute worst part of the whole tragedy, the thing that still hurts me so bad after all this time, is that it was completely unnecessary. None of it ever had to happen, it wasn't written in stone. All someone had to do was say something. When it comes to that hard truth, questions like "why" don't really seem to matter to me anymore.

The only way to stop these things from happening is to help the people committing them, And I believe that starts with not demonizing the people who are most likely to commit them. If everyone sees you as a threat if you have homicidal ideation, how are you going to get help? If not a single person in your life cares about you, why the hell would you care about anybody else? Thank you for putting so much thought and effort into your comment by the way.

Back in high school there was a kid in my science class who was always quiet and this other kid would always give him shit for everything. I would talk to the quiet kid once in a while very little but still enough talk to stop and say hey and catch up. I went up to him because he looked even more obscure than before he just stared at the ground the whole class period. I sat next to him right before the bell rang to release us from school because it was the last period and I asked if he was okay and he just let it all out. He said he’s sick of how he has to deal with crap from people he doesn’t know or talk to and he straight up said it makes me want to bring a gun and solve the problem, this was 2012 weeks before Sandyhook. I went cold and froze, I felt the goosebump all on my back and my legs went kinda numb. I noticed he saw me kinda react idk I didn’t see me face at the time I probably went pale. But with my lip quivering I told him that would ruin not just his life and the people he was gonna shoot but everyone who witnesses they’d would be scared for life and to think about his family how would they feel and idk what else my 16 year old self said. The bell then rang and he said I made him think deep and he thanked me. And I know “why tf didn’t I tell someone, he could have gone through with it the next day or something” I know I thought that for years until i saw him on Facebook suggestions with a wife and a daughter, if I would have told on him it could have ruined his life and he would have never met the love of his life. Feels like this should be on Reddit but it’s in comments on a very old video that I randomly found in my algorithm

They are pretty well points my dude! Also, i sometimes believe the game itself is just disturbing in a way not just the visuals and atmosphere, but it's own in game environment, easter eggs and hidden things that happen such as ostriches somehow appearing, Used Fruits, some areas that may not make sense, the creepy dumpsters with flesh (first appears in marching band level) And also even the weapons the users wield as well, the guns are unusual in design, napalm launchers being used, even rocket launcher dudes, sometimes other characters can fire the rockets rapidly.
Makes me think the postal dude was pretty right and he gone insane as time goes by im guessing the more satanic insane schizophrenic descending to madness from the Diary segments of how he rambles is like how he remembers it as it was rather thinking he was doing the right.

I’m pleased you had the authenticity to call the replacement of the school a cop-out, because I agree they could have adapted the ending to a different shocking setting to innovate on the meaning of the work instead of doing what they did, which feels strongly like copping out. I would’ve accepted a hospital, orphanage, college, etc-places which still elicit recoil to think about rather than that tired disgrace and direct comparison to specific real events Vince cited. Or an even more clearly imaginary level could have sufficed.
I wonder whether another news cycle would have helped RWS out financially, too, although I expect that they reasonably fear losing the privilege of being so open with their time and energy on the internet. And I suppose I prefer having my dude doll over their business manufacturing contracts potentially drying up, although that’s betraying of the subversiveness for me to say. I’ve got to buy the classic dude one of these days so he can have a -friend- bad influence.

I dont think video games are responsible for anything that a person does outside of them, but the niche audience that "wants" the elementary school shooting vs the rest of the world is very one-sided and unbalanced number wise, so why be choose at all? Very odd to openly show interest in wanting a school shooting scene back in a game just because it helps get the message across, within a game that has no message other than shooting people. Get a grip and stop looking so deep for your own weird satisfaction of violence. Funkopops are calling.
