  • This one took a while...
    In this project we're going with the machine that's still in active use. We're going to upgrade it, test it, and see it to it's limits. And by the end we'll know the answer if this one was a good investment.

    I'm still using an i7-2600 in my system the only thing I have upgraded over the past couple of years was the GPU to an rx5600xt and at 1080p it still handles 99% of modern games. Most people don't realise how low the bar is for modern gaming while the still manage to look good at lower settings.

    Still have a Z68 build as a HTPC. 2500K @ 4.6GHz, 24GB 1600MHz & R9 290X still runs games surprisingly fine.

    Nice. Core 2 Quads were amazing, but surely wouldn’t last as long is Ivy Bridge ones like in this video

    Both my HTPCs are using i5 3470 CPUs. Still great PCs 😊

    Hey man, love your videos. Just have one question: why did you put the memory sticks in A1 and B1, since it's best (performance-wise) to install them on A2 and B2 (as the manual shows)?
    They're on dual-channel, but not on the ideal slots.

    My current rig is a socket 1155 with an i7-3770k cpu, 24GB RAM, 500GB SSD, Radeon Sapphire Pulse 8GB GPU card, 750w PSU, and a couple 1TB spiners as well

    Recently put togethor a 4th gen i5 3.2, 16gb 1600, audigy 2zs & 9800gtx+ running 7. It's a fantastic system for 2015 or so titles & back. Thinking maybe a 1070 upgrade. While a workhorse, the 9800 is very long in the tooth.

    this is basically my computer, but with an FX-6300 and only 8 gigs of RAM (and a 600W PSU). planning to put in a 970 or 1070, and upgrading the RAM to 16 gigs

    I usually go cheap in the motherboards and find some good processors for good prices, used for some time i7 3770 with a simple p8h61, used to play only simpler gamer that the r7 265 could handle, had to move the 3770 to my office pc after the the last setup became unusable, and since I had a h81m-a lying around, managed to find an i7 4790 for cheap and the pc went on for another year, til I randomly decided to try out a newer thing, still cheap of course

    My rig that I still use daily is from 2015, and has the following specs:
    ASUS Z97-P
    i5-4690K
    16 GBs of DDR3
    Asus Strix Gtx 960
    It is absolutely horrible when playing any game that doesn't rely on the processor.
    The graphics card is lacking in modern games to say the least.

      @attictiertech  Před rokem +1

      I've had a similar rig until recently (i5-4670k, Z97-K, 32GB DDR3), with GTX 950 though. I've added GTX 1660 Super to it, and it was great boost to it's performance. Depending on your financial situation you could try newer card as a first step. Or buy some better graphics card for your new build and later buy other parts. - M

    i put a 3090 in my 3770k computer, lol it's awesome. modern cpu aren't really any faster.
    if i got a better cpu i'd have to get a worse gpu. not worth it! having a 3090 is epic

    • @re2590
      @re2590 Před rokem +1

      Well id imagine your being bottlenecked quite a bit!
      Also modern cpu's are quicker lol. 5800x3d, and even newer 7800x3d would tear apart your cpu in seconds for gaming purposes. It would also boost your fps in higher tier cards more than lower.
      I would a lot that your cpu is bottlenecking your gpu. Even at 1440p and 4k, a lot less, but still bottlenecking. Plus the cores counts per second increases with more modern gpu's even if the Ghz does not change much,

    • @stephenkamenar
      @stephenkamenar Před rokem

      @@re2590 i know, i mostly got it for AI purposes. but overwatch 2 still caps out at the 600fps limit

    • @stephenkamenar
      @stephenkamenar Před rokem

      a modern cpu is twice as fast, at most. not a huge deal

    Description says ram is 2x2 gb btw rather then 2x8 gb, threw me off until i reached that part of the video.
    Had 8 gb ram in 2012 via 4x2 gb ramsticks & at the time ran a phenom II x4 955 at 3.9 ghz & hd 6870.
    Around August 2012 i got the phenom II x4 955 in a trade for my athlon II x3 445 at 3.1 ghz with some cash.
    Had ghetto modded the hd 6870 with 2x 120mm fans at 1000 rpm zip tied too the card after taking apart the cooler too remove the shroud & removing the original fans.
    Didn't have patience too wait for the hd 7000 series midrange cards too release, otherwise i'd probably have ended up buying a hd 7850 or hd 7870 while staying on my hd 5770 another few months.

      By this time I had an phenom II x6 which was good for gaming til 2018, then it started to show its age and was moved to office pc until the cheap motherboard died
