  • To conclude the Throttle House truck buying series, we are happy to announce that we have chosen the 2021 Ram 1500 Laramie ($87,435 CAD as specced, $68,900 USD). Thomas and James dive into why they chose to lease this vehicle over its competition, and what they might have done differently if they were given the choice. How accurate will Thomas’ kilometer estimate for the lease be? Will he get it bang-on or is he a complete buffoon who has already driven over half the allotted kilometers in merely a month? We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!!
A huge thank you to Galt Chrysler for helping us purchase this truck!

There are certainly choices an automaker can make that will increase the reliability of a vehicle. All new vehicles will get at least 100k miles. The older the vehicle platform, the more reliable it is. That's probably why the Tundra was the most reliable. That will probably change when they switch over to a twin turbo V6. Turbos are less reliable for each one you add. V pattern is less reliable than inline. Now the reliable trucks are going to be GMs and Rams if you can get past the stigma. Oldest drive trains with fewer areas of failure. Air suspension will be the big problem with the Ram. Expensive to replace and it will fail if not replaced as part of regular maintenance.

Or, take advantage of the market and lack of trucks and sell it before the market goes to normal again. Or, simply trade it for another before lease is up, you'll take a slight hit due to high mileage but won't have to pay $$$ per kms penalty. Or...park it lol.

I like your truck! Enjoy it, I know you will! One thing though: I read BAAAAAD things about that air suspension in the Canadian winter.. It's a lease though, so..

My grandpa had a 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie EcoDiesel (Twin turbo diesel V6). Very nice truck. Definitely had some reliability issues though. That EcoDiesel was known to have problems. He always got a new truck once the warranty was up, so he didn't have to pay for any of it, but it did go through 3 brand new motors. And the air suspension is great until it breaks.

I dig it. I said the same thing about nice, but not too nice when I bought my 2015 F-150 King Ranch. I do have to say, I do like the new Ram's more so than the new F-150. A friend picked up a 2021 Laramie a few months ago. It's a great truck.

      Considering ID3, Kona, e208, i3 and Zoe.
My SO likes the ID3 because of the Makena Turquoise Metallic, go figure

From personal experience leasing in Ontario... #1 It's a truck. Prices are, and will continue to be crazy. #2 Drive it as much as you want. #3 Buy it out at the end of the lease and turn around to sell it or trade it in. Honestly... It's way WAY cheaper than paying for mileage plus wear and tear. I actually sold my leased 2018 STI to a Subaru dealer in Mississauga and made a bit of cash back. Congrats by the way 👍🎉

Had the same issue with the radio in my Sierra. I’m my case it has to do with one of the sports channels on XM playing when I’m trying to listen to something through CarPlay. I figured out you just have to go to that channel in the XM menu and stop it and then it’s fine. Has only happened a couple of times but it was good to figure out.
