    Thank you so much for this video. It was incredibly helpful for me. I have 2 trans' 1 broke where the drivers axle smacked it. The other has a busted bell. Now I can make one from two. Your detailed teardown was very helpful. Don't worry about the haters, most of them are desk racers anyway.

    Christian, it seems to me that you are a model teacher / explainer. At each step, you explained exactly what I wanted to know next, making it an incredible learning experience for me. No waffle. No nonsense about what a gearbox is and why you might want to fix one. Instead, straight down to business, with a step by step account of what's involved. I want most CZcams videos to be like this - it would be much better use of my time. I hope you are well and went on to do many more good things.
    PS: Some here have mentioned endfloat and preload, and sure they are correct. However, you and I know that usually things work out if you do what you did, and CRUCIALLY they don't always work out when you use used or remanufactured gearboxes. I've seen the LEAST good outcome from (gearbox, engine, alternator, etc) remanufacturing places that have all the right tooling. I don't know what they do wrong. Clearly there are business and engineering advantages to having all the right tools, but there are also advantages in doing things the way you do, including how much you learn along the way. When I was younger I did all of my repairs like this, and NONE of them failed!

I need a rebuilt transmission. The bearing on my driver side axle is whining when I go through my gears. I was thinking get the clutch replaced to and everyone says my clutch is good and just change the bearings on the driver side axle . I put new axles in and it’s still whining. When giving it gas. Honestly I would rather bring it to you lol

    Recently got a vw jetta from coworker for $100 intended to swap my vr into. Long story short she sold it cheap thinking transmission was cracked. I looked in thought it was a slave cylinder since they're plastic and swapped in New one. Drove car to work this morning and saw trail of fluid into spot I parked at. It looks like I have fluid coming out of the top of the transmission. It looks like a inspection hole but I haven't had time to really look. Is this a sign of a bad input shaft seal? I am stumped but want to figure this out asap

    Your video was very helpful. I was hoping to take the bell housing section off only for a repair. But after I decided to take it all apart I realized that wasn't going to happen. The bearing punched threw the casting where the 4 nuts are. I'm going to weld the piece back on and will probably need to remachine the bottom of the bore. I'm assuming zero preload and zero end play on the bearings.

    • @V10PDTDI
      @V10PDTDI  Před 7 lety +1

      paul capper the only way is buy two set of bearing and sacrifice one set of race and grind the exterior dimensions so it installs loose and then close back the transmission case and check end play and turning torque the adjust shims accordingly this would be done with the same make of bearing assuming that the tolerance are close it could be measured before to see if they are the same I guess buying good quality bearing would help.

    Good day. Very good video, it shows clearly how to perform the repairs and your explanation is to the point. If you have time I would like to ask you a question:
    I own an 2006 TDI 5 speed manual transmission (very similar to the one you repaired) Honestly I do not know the type of transmission but it is matched to a BRM engine. The transmission grinds when I engage the 3rd of 4th gear, It looks like the synchronizer is damaged. If when I switch the gears, I let the RPM of the engine to go down to a minimum, then the gears won't grind, leading me to think the synchronizer on 3rd and 4th gear are damaged.
    At one point in your video, minute 16:42 to be precise, you removed the gears from the output shaft. If I were to replace the synchronizer for 3rd and 4th gear, how can I identify them? Also, you did not show how to take the gears from the output shaft.
    Could you provide assistance as of how to perform such replacement?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @V10PDTDI
      @V10PDTDI  Před 4 lety +1

      Carlos Salvetti Hi before you do any repair make sure that the transmission is of oil on a MK5 like you have if I remember right the fill plug is lower than it should because the transmission is tilted toward the front so you have to drain the transmission completely and fill it to the correct amount can’t remember of the total amount but it should be around 2 litres and make sure the differential bearings are tight.

    • @carlossalvetti6770
      @carlossalvetti6770 Před 4 lety

      @@V10PDTDI The level of oil was ok the last time I checked, but I will go ahead and empty it from oil and then fill it again. I will let you know of the results.

    • @carlossalvetti6770
      @carlossalvetti6770 Před 4 lety

      Ok, I drained the transmission oil and to my surprise, the amount of oil that I extracted was less than 1 liter. If it reached 750 ml I am being generous. I filled it up with 2 liters and drive test it. The grinding on the 3rd almost dissapeared but the one on 4th remains. At this point I would say that damage to the transmission has occurred.
      I will be dropping the transmission eventually and I will require some pointers as of what to do based on the findings. I will try to upload a video and if you could kindly help would be great.

    • @V10PDTDI
      @V10PDTDI  Před 4 lety

      Carlos Salvetti great to see that you had some improvements maybe you could put some type of anti friction lubricant or something that says on the can that might help with synchronizers you could also check if the selector shafts on the top of the transmission is tight it’s the shaft that holds the metal weigh that moves up and down and left to right make sure that the nut on the top is tight and every moving parts are lubricated.
