Gran Turismo 6 vs 7 - Grand Valley Speedway vs Highway 1 (Direct Comparison / Side by Side)

- Grand Valley Speedway has returned to Gran Turismo with the latest GT7 update in the form of "Grand Valley Highway 1", a remake of the old track with the same layout but set in a completely new environment, the famous California Highway 1 / Pacific Coast Highway. Here you can see a direct comparison of the two versions, synced up to show the same corners at the same time in both games in most sections of the track.
Grand Valley Speedway was one of the tracks in the original Gran Turismo game on the PS1 and it was a fictional race track set in an unspecified location. For the first 6 games it featured spectator stands, billboards, mountains, trees and a lake in the background and also an iconic blue bridge followed by a tunnel with a view.
For Gran Turismo 7 it was now remade as a track at the Pacific Coast Highway (California Highway 1), which is a famous real world road between San Francisco and Los Angeles that was also used for tracks in The Crew, Grid and Project Cars. The blue bridge has been replaced with the Bixby Creek Bridge, which is an iconic bridge in the real world.
Even though the new version of the track looks completely different the layout of the corners is actually almost identical until the bridge. Only between the bridge and the final corner there are a few differences. In GT7 the bridge is longer and followed by a tighter corner, although both versions still reach the slow chicane at a similar time.
The overall lap time is almost identical in GT6 and GT7. However, the finish line is not in the same spot on the main straight, so to sync up the two versions I have used the overhead banner at the end of the straight and not the lap time counter. This way we are also reaching the first corner at the same time in both games.
Based on the initial comments under my evolution video the new setting for Grand Valley seems to be quite controversial. What are your thoughts on the new version of the track?

I like both, the old had the nostalgia, the new looks great, but it's amazing how the scenery, lighting and setting can make the same track feel SO different!
For a couple of seconds, I thought they had completely changed the layout as well until I realized the map was just rotated 90 degrees to the right.
yup. Also Grand Valley East, which used to use the north side of the track is now called Grand Valley South, which uses the East side of the track
90% of the course is the same. It's the final segment that has changed since GT6. There's a hairpin/chicane followed by S-curves. Otherwise the layout is the same, despite the drastic change in scenery.
I thought so too. Why is the map tilted 90 degrees? I can only sleep at night because I am curious.
I sleep only 8 hours! It's only *"8 HOURS"* !!!
But, well, I thought that Mr. Yamauchi would not change the shape of the course drastically.
...But, I'm used to Grand Valley in GT5/GT6, so I'm afraid I'm going to have an accident because of the unfamiliar scenery.
Of course, I like the Grand Valley in GT7 too.
There’s also some elevation changes
It's crazy how much a background change can make a track feel so different. High Speed Ring in GT5 felt like a completely new track compared to Gt1 & 2, even though it was the exact same track.
It is not exactly. It was smaller in GT1.
Turns 3&4 were heavily banked in GT1. Not sure if they were as steep in GT2...
@@jgoode85 GT1 and GT2 are pretty identical.
It's not though. GT1 and 2's high speed ring are smaller (1.926 vs 2.485 miles), different banking, radius of corners, track width, etc. If you want to see an even more subtle difference between tracks, look at Grand Valley. The infield and approach angle to the final corner in GT1, 2 and 3 are different than 4, 5 and 6. You can see these differences in the track overlay too.
Yeah and they killed the pace of classic HSR
I think the reason why people wanted Grand valley back was because of the classic scenery. Not so much of the layout. I wanted to see the blue bridge again in a remastered version but Instead they completely removed it.
And that's a shame, really.
The bridge was my favourite part. Honestly, major layout or artistic changes kill the appeal of original tracks.
They ruined the aesthetic of this track 😭😭
And they removed the tunnels, and changed the gradiants, both of which I loved :(
And there aren't any run-off areas either.
The track just isn't the same without the blue bridge. No idea why they removed the most iconic part of the track scenery.
The layout is there but the soul is gone.
I agree it’s not the same. I like the original grand valley better myself.
yeah gt7 sucks i remeber the meats been 12 cars the drag lobbies would be always fool and the drift lobbies where awesome
True, they made the track cheap and boring
It started with Trial Mountain then Deep Forest and now Grand Valley. The only one that stay the same was High Speed Ring
I'm really convinced people just put these under any old Vs new comparison now.
They did an amazing job of fitting that almost-exact course into this landscape. I've been looking at the real place on google earth and they really pulled it off. The place looks so good it made me really miss my late in-laws who lived in Bixby Canyon. Didn't expect that when I fired up the PS5 today.
after seeing here what could be achieved by reworking old GT tracks and making them look like real life roads, makes me wonder if they couldnt have done this for all the remastered circuits in GT7, like Trial Mountain and Deep Forest. They look good, but they dont feel like a proper cruising track, nor a realistic closed circuit somewhere. I just wished they had done this for every track. Sainte-Croix layouts dont even have the road markings and signs all throughout the track for example. Give me Circuito de la Sierra and I'll shut up forever lol
Wait this is actually based on a real location? That's crazy man lol how the hell did they manage that? Oh were the bridges made for the game? (Virtually) lol
@@pedroaidothe sierra course would be a dream come true. i’m still amazed they were able to squeeze that into gran turismo 6.
I really like the new scenery and track layout.
Only thing I am missing is the awesome looking bridge design from GT6 at 01:11min, I wish they would have kept that.
They basically Ctrl+X Ctrl+V that into Sainte-Croix, so technically it still exists, just not where it used to
@@andre_star7776the St. Croix is not an arch bridge, it's more like a suspended gate Bridge like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
At first, I wasn't 100% on the change of scenery. Mostly because I think of GT1-2 Grand Valley when it comes to mind. However, after looking at this, I'm happy with the change
Grand Valley in. GT5, GT6 was better
Me too, is looking very beautiful
Fuck you. You’re part of the problem and you should be ashamed
As a California resident who has driven Highway 1 in real life several times, I'm 1000% down for this change.
@@ricardolimalopes2343 vdd
I don’t like how they’ve changed it, should have kept to the original. But Thankyou for doing this comparison 👍
The new track feels as if they demolished the hills around the circuit lol
Am I the only person who prefers the old version? It was a permanent race track, while now it just feels like a road...
+
Agreed 👌
I live in California and have driven the real-life section of Highway 1 that this track's environment is now based on. I think it's absolutely AMAZING that it feels like a road and even has the real-life Bixby Bridge in it.
The fact that it feels like a road is why I like the new one better
+1
I like both. I think it's controversial because it's hard to choose one or the other, since they're so different in a way.
Exactly my thought. Nothing will change my love for the OG Grand Valley but the new one is definitely very pretty to look at.
They could genuinely stick in the OG and they'd feel completely different!
New one is ok but I like the original better because of the scenery, the crowds, stands, etc.
The new one looks more like a street race now.
Like most tracks in GT7 the crowd and stands and other trackside race stuff gets added when you choose a race. In time trial mode like in this video all that gets removed so it looks more like a track day. Obviously still not the same as the old version.
There's plenty of that with almost all of the other tracks in the game. I think it's badass that they've based this off the real-life Highway 1 in Big Sur, CA. And as a person who enjoys driving in the canyons in real life (including Hwy 1 IRL), I think this new version is absolutely awesome.
I like it though, looks like some touge stuff haha
It's good, that we finally have more street maps.
I'm waiting for touge
@@wickedjuice even in a Race it looks different
I'm glad that Grand Valey returned to Gran Turismo, the track is great and one of my favorites, but I have to say that I liked the environment around the track more in parts 1-6 ☺
I actually prefer the GT7 version over the original. It fits way better to the title and the slightly changed layout makes the track even more fun.
New one is great, but its still kind of a bittersweet feeling that its a complete overhaul.
It's unrecognizable. It's a brand new track named "Grand Valley".
I miss the og Grand valley but love the scenery of this new one as well, especially at sunset
Not to get to nostalgic but the new one has nothing on the original the suspension bridge or the tunnel leading to another tunnel were all iconic sections of the track, the first (or is it the second) corner gravel runoff with crowds, just imagine the carnage and drama on such a track in real life. There is also that a few other corners have different gradient altogether making them very different and in my opinion less fun (more technical maybe, but not nearly as fun).
It's amazing, the fact for me the key looks realistic is:
1. Ambient occlusion
2. Darker shadows with secondary blue shadow or blue sky ambient color
3. bloom with higher light intensity
4. Reflection
Imagine a track like Imola without kerbs. That is what I feel with this new Grand Valley Speedway.
This track is so much better now, the they nailed the "Californian Canyon" vibe. And the elevation changes are a lot of fun
I know, right? And to all the people disappointed that it now looks like a road instead of a dedicated race track: Do yourself a favor one day and come to California and drive the real-life Highway 1 through Big Sur. Then you'll absolutely understand the appeal of this new GT7 track.
I think it's better suited to the circuit setting, with curbs, runoff etc. Still a fun track, but not as good as what it was imo
Ong
well the old one nailed down "permanent race track" vibe as well
Agree
As someone who can't drive irl due to medical reasons I have a racing set up a use rp servers in order to still enjoy driving this map has been a blessing, been driving on tokyo expressway for what feels like years now and finally we have another track that allows 2 lane traffic and actually feels like a place you could drive irl
Now they just need to bring back Midfield, apricot hill, Seattle circuit, and red rock valley speedway
And Rome.
seattle wont happen. that part of the city irl is changed, the street circuit is no longer possible. if they made a seattle track it would have to be completely different
Let's not forget Special Stage Route 5, 7, and 11
@@RetrodavidDreamcastDon't go doing Clubman Route 5 dirty, fun circuit!
@@Stance1988it's a damn shame, or make a fictional city course based around this layout and archetype.
Ah, I remember I had an endurance race on this exact track in GT1 in that exact car. Damn thats a long time ago.
That exact car wasn't in GT1
That's the 96 version. Here, it's the championship-winning car from 97.
I like it much more as a race track 2:05
Did the track in B-spec mode for endurance race.8 hours or 24 hours back in the day with GT4. And once we did the track in 24 hours realtime-A-spec. Same with the Nordschleife. Hope they will implement more races like the SPA 1 hour race on other track with the same payout.
The GT7 version looks pretty good with the elevation changes
yup
Scenery change aside I really like how most of the track’s layout is kept aside from the corners after Grand Valley Bridge.
I like it much better in GT6.
Yeah me too, I’m not much a fan of removing all the grand stands for some brown dirt slopes.
Get Out of the Tunnel, and See this Epic Bridge... And Here is nothing...
Now if we could only get Red Rock Valley back, we'd be all set!
It's in the GT7 files!
bro I really miss that blue bridge
As someone who lives a couple hours away from PCH I love the change. Also feels like they did it to compliment VR support with all the ocean views.
Growing up playing GT3, that’s my favourite version- yes even though the quality isn’t as good.
But I do like this new version too, I hope they add more layouts in the future. Which I guess is likely as it’s called “Highway 1”.
If Red Rock is added I hope they don’t change it. Because the stadium aesthetic added to the atmosphere. That’s why I prefer Super Speedway to Motegi.
But either way, so glad Grand Valley is back!
It's because Polyphony is trying to adapt the original tracks into real world locations. But we need to see back the street circuts even though they're not the funniest to drive, it's part of racing and the landscape could be wonderful especially in night : Paris, New-York, London, Madrid, Tokyo R246, Seoul, Hong Kong, Rome, Monaco and why not a new one in Dubai
i like the GT7 version better honestly, the only thing im dissapointed about is losing the blue bridge. otherwise, the previous versions, while still iconic, feel like they're just another track in the countryside, like road america or spa. now theyve given grand valley an actual location and its own, true identity rather than just being known for its name
Gran Turismo 7 is SO impressive.
RIP curbs. You will be missed.
Would love a remaster if gt6 , it was one of my favourite gts, and definitely had more content
I was curious about the name change but now it makes perfect sense
Even though i love the aesthetics of the new track, i really hope they bring back the classic versions of these tracks especially the old Stage route tracks
I wouldn’t say the GT7 version is a bad track, but old iteration is much better in my opinion. I don’t get why they changed the scenery - what’s the point?
You know that episode of South Park where Indiana Jones gets..... ya know....
Yeah, Polyphony is Lucas and Yamauchi is Spielberg.
WE JUST WANTED TO SEE THE BIG BLUE BRIDGE... thats the soul of the track...
Teat Track Race in The Grand Valley Speedway in Both GT6 &7.
Now if they bring back Red Rock Valley Speedway , that'll be great.
Brilliant video 👏🏻👏🏻
I admire the changes but it would still be better if they added the option to have the older variants. Similar to how they did Le Mans with the 2005 layout and Fuji Speedway with the 80s and 90s layout
Id say it would be weird to do it to this track. Because unlike fuji and le mans, the new grand valley is on an entirely different landscape. Tho i'd be nice to have something like the old track, but imo the new one is cool as is for me. Especially with the elevations.
I forgot all about that, you’re exactly right
Layout is the same but turns are tighter probably due to the highway 1 vibe. Scenery is gorgeous; track shows it’s roots but with a remastered touch.
I like the old scenarie more.
I wish they just gave us both because I really can't pick between the two.
Dude, that's so cool that they did this!
Such an insult to the original Grand Valley. It’s a completely different track, just with the same shape. Grand Valley was a proper race track, but not this gimmicky road course. This is in no ways the Grand Valley. If you wish to create a nice road course, it’s fine, but don’t name it after old GT stuff to make noise while it is NOT the old thing.
Alright so next up should be Midfield raceway and Seattle circuit.
To me worst hing is the physics changes in actual layout of the track not the scenery itself it’s in fact completely different track
Amazing video.
Where is the beautiful blue bridge? :(
Both look awesome to be honest, the original is a classic, I love it, and the new one has more of that coastal view which makes it look more appealing to the eye.
i appreciate the landscape change, but it lacks the raceway feel to me. also the bridge on the back straight is iconic, i think they shouls have made more of a structure on that. its pretty good though, but prefer the original
I like the new map but if we could have a remastered original that would be amazing as well.
Nice. But there are actually three versions. The original in GT1,2 and 3 is different from the 2nd version in 4,5 and 6 and now the new one in 7.
I wish they just made a highway track and the original. They should do the same with Deep Forest and Trail Mountain cause the straights now just feel way too long. Also miss the old Grand Valley, Miss the enclosure the track had with all the grandstands and the final sector and a little in the first two are a tiny bit different in the first two sectors. Last thing i want to add is the tunnel at the end, it's annoying.
I grew up on GT3 and GT4 and didn't hop back on the GT series until GT sport and now GT7. I can't really say that I remember this track as well as other iconic GT tracks but im glad I can finally experience it! I would absolutely love to see the OG layout and backdrop for this track to make a return tho!
They made a VERY odd choice here. Grand Valley means 3 things: Massive grandstands on start-finish, crazy first hairpin with large sand run-off area, and that blue bridge. This is missing entirely from this new track. I don't find this new scenery impressive, I have a hard time figuring out where I am .
I think we all prefer the original design because it’s what we’re used to. But I will definitely embrace the new one, gives me need for speed street race vibes. I’m so glad they brought it back
The new version has just some upgrades, but i can't understand why they change completely the location. Why It's a road now
The course has been partially changed to a bridge layout. A bigger renovation than Trial Mountain. what happened in this course
So whyd they change the layout when no one asked them to
But why Grand Valley in Gt7 Is different?
Instead of PCH, they should have chose Texas Hill Country, it is much similar in asthetics. They could have used Austin, Interstate 35, US290, and Lake Travis. CA isn't the only place that has beautiful roads just because it's next to an ocean.
I played since GT1 at the age of 10. I love the old track designs but if you have a keen eye and you look at GT2 and the nation races you will spot that PD has always intended certain tracks to be in a country or area of a country. A good example is if you go to Gran Turismo League > German National Championship, these races are all held at Deep Forest, and where is DF located in GT7? In Switzerland. The location of PD's tracks has always been known to them but probably because of money, time, technology etc it was not possible to make their tracks and their irl locations a reality untill now. This will happen to all tracks and it's not an afterthought, it's very much intentional. GV always had sea and water at the left side of the GV bridge, it's safe to assume that GV was always supposed to be in California with the rocks and everything also being in place.
I think that they could make another track with this scenery and call it Santa Monica Highway and make Grand Valley with the known layouts on Michigan, Pennsylvania or Colorado (where they have real places called like this, all interior, and next to rivers or big lakes).
Gt7 version was a welcome surprise!
A remake of the original track!
Although they changed the looks, the track layout seems to be the same...
... Until the last 15% of it, which looks like they added elevation changes and a few curves. It's not bad, but seems odd in comparison to earlier games. Reminds me of GT1/2 Deep Forest, though
we all miss the old gran turismo
(Sprays water in the glasses and swipe out the water) IS THAT A SUPRA!!!?
just a shame that its not a race track ony more but just some regular streets
GT7 version looks gorgeous, sure, but I miss the classic atmosphere from GT6, which was evolving in fedelity from GT5, and GT4, all the way from GT1. While I'm not against new tracks at all, I wish they'd just make a new circuit in order to experiment with new settings, like they did with the new GT5 and GT6 tracks like Matterhorn.
They should really bring back the arches on the bridge at 1:08 though, ever since seeing it on the GT4 intro it marked me deeply.
It was an absolutely beautiful racetrack ! I don't hate the new one , it's cool and good , but it's just not the same ! It had great challenging elevation change , lots of blind spots, and was still extremely fast and wide , it challenged everything in a car ! You needed good suspension, downforce , 4wd traction , top speed power , strong brakes and tires , weight distribution , lightweight tight turn agility , I even used to test my endurance setups on it ! It was like a quick handbook Nurburgring! this can't be good , should make something special , not ruin a classic ! If they wanted the Stelvio pass or the dragon gate with narrow roads and twisty climbs or a Nevada or Utah highway they could've done it , there's pikes peaks to fill this exact space , and it'd be much cooler and even more realistic , this doesn't give the sense of speed , doesn't challenge car stability , no need for any racing lines , before it was like mount panorama or swiss alps or mountain valley , now it's like high speed raceway even tokyo special stage route 66 is cooler and more challenging !
I enjoy the change the tracks in GT7 are looking nearly all the same that is a fresh change.
Gt7 looks and sounds better but gt6 still holds up in my humble opinion.
I feel like taking a cruise on this circuit lol
The new Highway 1 version looks like something made outside of Pikes Peak. Not sure if I like it.
gt6..because it looks more like a circuit than a trip to the seaside
It’s like they replaced the track with a civilian road and redeveloped the landscape either by forces of nature, human causation, or both even.
GT6 still looking good 😁
the 3 last corner before the straight is the only difference in terms of layout.
Es un circuito hermoso, no debieron haber cambiado su entorno. Fue una muy mala decisión!
It's like a step back rather than a step forward, I feel they missed a chance to show off PS5 at its finest here.
So funny! Now i understand why i was so pissed and why i obviously directly loved this "new" track.
As a veteran from gran turismo 1, i was expecting grand valley speedway, to be a circuit, not an "open road". The new scenery, and the 90 degree loop on the map totally fucked my mind. Gg pody.
This track is going to be so pretty in psvr2
良いドライブスポットを作ってくれました😚
Will always love the original. I get what pd trying to do but it didn't work. They should have original game valley added and you choose which layout to race on. The original felt like an actual race circuit not something from california! Also bring back apricot Hill and some of the more iconic tracks. Not like pd doesn't have the money to do it. There's enough cars now in gt7. And alot of those are soul less. Tracks and more championships! World tour with improved a I with all the original tracks from gt1 to Gt3!
It feels like the development team has been infiltrated by people trying to systematically destroy this game. Everything new is worse than previous games, this track included.
Old grand Valley is better than new
old one was so much better as a racing track.
This track is pretty darn fun
I prefer the original. The GT7 version may technically be the same layout, but it just feels and looks so different.
