  • I bought this Gerber Gator Machete to finally form my own opinion about these things. Unboxing and my initial impressions are not what I had imagined.

Thanks dude, you just saved me $85 and a potential injury from broken handle. Subscribed 👍

As a Gerber fanboy, you are absolutely right about this crap.
Broadcut was my first Gerber and im still using it for 4 yrs. That thing is tough, Well balanced and perfect for chopping and slashing. One of my favorite machete i would say.
But when i picked up Gerber gator? I instantly felt something was off.
No weight balancing whatsoever, blade dangling every time i swing it. Which is a huge issue for machete because those two problems combined? hard to hit the same spot with impact point repeatedly...
To sum it up, the structural disaster you cleared out makes this thing not only fragile and dangerous, it is failure as a tool.

      Thanks for watching!
I grew up with Gerber and always knew it was a brand you could count on. My father gave me his old Gerber skinner when I became of age and I have no doubts it will last another two or three generations of use and abuse.
The thing that really grinds my gears about the Gerber Gator is, these things are being bought by people that knew the brand like I did, to put in “survival packs” or “bug out bags”.
They’re being bought by young men and women starting jobs in land surveying, environmental sciences, and other land management fields of work.
It’s not okay in my opinion!
The customer service is terrible too! I started a return/refund claim over two months ago and I am still waiting for some response.

Thank you for the only proper review of this product that I've seen. I wish I knew which model of the gerber gator this is. There is a regular and an outdoor version which I suspect may be different in quality.

Yep. I had one of these and the handle broke on the first day. The stitching on the belt loop busted too. If Gerber actually honours their warranty (doubtful) and I get a replacement I wouldn't use it for much more than saplings and weeds.

It sure lookef pretty when I bought it.. THIN hollow ground edge Bends REAL easy hard to straighten.. not enough metal to work your way out of... Might look like a tomato knife by the time you got it all straightened out... But it sure looked pretty

that shit is a quarter tang!
Also, love how the thinnest piece of metal on either bolt-pin is on the hole that's going to be taking all the impact from the blade hitting something and is going to shear off the instant the blade starts getting dull during cutting, or you hit a nail ,and it's going to cut your palm up

These kind of stuff, hurts the brand pretty bad. But also, so disrespectful to their customers.

  • @JCOwens-zq6fd
    @JCOwens-zq6fd Před rokem +2

Yeah you'd think gerber would know better. There are certain machete that dont have full tang traditionally such as certain SE asian blades. however the blades werent bolted to plastic either.

Saw this on sale last fall in Home Depot and thought, "Hey cool." Held it and looked it over for about 10 seconds, and even in the poster board shrink wrap I'm thinking this is barely a toy, let alone a tool.

The gerber gator machete was my very first video review. I agree that it is long winded and sloppy. Time is a valuable thing these days. Thanks for the feedback.
