What scratch-proof tips did we forget to mention? 🤔 Let us know! 👇
The first scratch on a new bike is always the worst thing to happen to it. No matter how hard you may try, a bloody scratch always appears! 😢
that damn first chain drop 🤣
Or the best thing so you can start chilling about it
Just like Rod Stewart said ... The first cut is the deepest 🎶
Remember, a knight in shiny armour is a knight that has never seen battle 😊.
Oh yes! 👌
That's why I have a Titanium bike. Any scratches are fine, or can be polished out if you don't like that brushed metal rugged look 😊
Ditto! I've made a lot of mistakes in my life. Deciding to get a titanium bike is NOT one if them. 😊
@@MrLuigi-oi7gm Same here. Ti bikes are the Picture of Dorian Gray of bikes.
Interesting point! Are you a fan of the brushed metal bike? 🚴
Love my Pronto Ti gravel bike 🥰
I also have a TI bike but the aluminum wheels I have still can get scratched. Bike frame still could pass for near new!
Helpful video indeed Manon! The biggest problem is MYSTERIOUS scuffs and scratches - where you don't know where they came from and perhaps a long ride could have acquired it from anywhere or anything, "The care (and feeding) of carbon" might be helpful in the future!
Chips and wear are just patina. Adds character
As long as they are not damaging a bike structurally then yeah, they often tell a story!
Steel. Rust!!!
We're here for this! It's all part of the story 🙌
If you own a steel bike and care to put in some effort, a simple car scratch kit and a drill can do wonders for bringing an old paint job back to near new.
great advice! just go easy on the pressure and RPM!
Nail polish. Old Deutsche Telekom livery 90s. Unsophisticated and crude temporary? It works! Lots of nail polish options.
3m Helicopter tape in high risk areas. Rest …. Just embrace it. As to sealant it wipes straight off. If you want to remove Helio tape, apply some heat first or it will rip the paint off, it’s that good!
What I'd like to see is a product review of the most accurate pressure gauges, I have a few manual and topeak battery versions. I bought a cheap Lidl digital gauge as I thought it wouldnt be accurate and it appeared to be miles out compared to the aforementioned! I feel this would be a valid review as true pressures seem to be becoming critical these days! Keep up the video content guys
When the Car Guys faced a similar question years ago their answer was perfect: "Take your shiny new car to the mall and park as close as you can to the biggest ugliest station wagon you can find. When that wagon's owners open their door they're going to ding your car. It's going to happen sooner or later so you might as well just get it over with."
(Other options: bare titanium -- scratchless. Or as a bike manufacturer suggested to me, "Pick the black frame. Then you can touch it up with a Sharpie."
Very true! Bikes are tools at the end of the day 🙌
Lol, I used the inverse scheme during my uni years to keep my bike from getting stolen. Always parked it next to the nicest bikes I could find.
My bike is made of mithril - it doesn't get scratched and it's light as a feather.
What is the color of her bike?! That is GORGEOUS!
I always put some tape under cables where they rub the frame. Not an issue for the bike in the clip but surprised it wasn't mentioned
I am not sure the tape will work unless you have the Park Tool scissors 🤣
We can't comment on that, we've never tried 😉
I have never cared about the finish on my bikes. My first good frame was bought from the importer at a discount because it had been scratched and chipped in transit.
The old Italian lacquer is so brittle that it flakes off when you look at it wrong.
I still ride that frame 45 years later and nearly 1/4 of the finish is missing.
It is still a very fast and light Al frame.
Love my Ti bike with rim brakes and tubes.
I use correx. A corrugated plastic sheet. Tie-wrapped on. In a range of colours. Flexible. Makes bomb proof chainstay protector. Quietening chain slap. Cable rub covers....allsorts of frame requirements.
Ooo that sounds like a great idea 👀
Put it on every tube. Then let us laugh at you and your stupid-looking bike.
That's why I use cheap(ish) bikes and ride gravel and touring.
Battle scars are part of the spirit of gravel, no?
For sure! Battle scars are all part of the story 🙌
From what I saw, scratches dissapear with yearly new releases of new bikes:)
That is why I bought a titanium gravel bike! No paint to be scratched. Anyway I bought some frame protection stickers
Sounds like you made a good choice! 👌
Always keep a nice coat of wax on my bike. Helps when washing and also protects the carbon from UV rays.
Ollie got his professionally coated 👉czcams.com/video/ht3u70Vvh0g/video.html
If I didn't want any scratches on my bikes, I would leave them in a showcase. 😉
Bikes are built to be ridden 💨
If you really want to get that 'brillo pad' effect, jet wash your bike and blast the dirt at very high pressure into and across the shiny finish on your bike,it also works on motorcycles and cars, just look at those swirls!!!
Recently scratched my bike by putting it in a stand and not noticing one of the rubber bits on the clamp came off 😬
😬
👌
Did I miss the name of the protective film
It's quite often called helicopter tape! 👍
Use a grit guard and two bucket method to avoid swirls and straches… meguairs ultimate compound will remove these
Wash ur lower parts and wheels and tires first in a different bucket
Great way to wash your bike ,another idea is to have multiple wash mits so once you've used one put it to one side then use a clean one so there is a Highley reduced risk of introducing grit into your wash bucket
@@alanfreeman7932 great tip!
It’s a bike, for crying ’ out loud, not a trophy. Ride the Damn thing and stop polishing it all day
It's a more socially acceptable form of onanism.
👌😊
👍
what bike is that
orbea orca aero from the bottles i guess nice paintjob
Hey! You're right, an Orbea Orca Aero 🤩
RideWrap all-day every day from day 1.
Best way to prevent scratches is to take a gravel trail and not worry
Wax the frame?
Just use tubes; sealant problem solved.
1:41 this needs to be labeled 18+😢😢😢😢😢
Buy a cheaper bike and don’t be so precious. It’s a bike.
No need to buy cheap if you can afford an expensive bike. Buy the bike that makes you happy and hopefully with these tips people will ride more too 🙌
@@gcntechI said cheaper, not cheap. Typical GCN trying to keep cycling as a high cost hobby.
$20 trek 720 here 🤘🤘😂😂
a roll of cling film - 30m can be bought for about £1
Indignant Manon makes me happy.
Simple titanium! 😅
Lots of people suggesting titanium 👀
It's what I ride and still yet to scratch the paintwork.......oh I don't have paintwork 😘
Titanium bike owner says wha?
just let it scratch and re custom paint it.
How To Protect Your Bike From Scratches
Use Calamine skin lotion!
Put tape on your shoe where it rubs the crank arm. Shoes are EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!
So are cranks 👀
Or...you can get a Ti bike. Hard to scratch, and if you do, scotch brite it off!
So much love for titanium bikes here! We love them too 👉czcams.com/video/6BatHcXm6B0/video.html
Tools, not jewels
it is still worth protecting your tool(s)!
It helps retain the bike's value if you decide to sell it at some point.
I have an 84 that gets hung on the wall when not on the roads... it's both.
In the words of a wise young girl: why not both?
I can see why you would want to protect them for sure, especially if you plan on selling at some point. I used to agonise over getting scratches and dings and then someone said "tools, not jewels" to me and for some reason it just really resonated with me and from then I just cared less about the dings and scratches :)
Tape on my bike, that would add about 4 grams to my bike. I think not! 😂
😂
Added bonus, your bike gets lighter with each scratch.
4 grams = how many watts? ⚡
Wouldn't really work with mtb
Our off road buddies have the MTB crew covered 👉czcams.com/video/blxrETqQxtQ/video.html
If you don't want to get any scratches whatsoever on your pride and joy, then just don't take it out.🙄. But, there is one major downside to this remedy🤔.........you will be as miserable as sin.🤪😉
Bikes are made for riding 🙌 Bit of frame protection can go a long way though 👀
If all you have to worry about is scratching the paintwork on your bike, (s) you're living a charmed life.😂
Don't ride it😂
Too late Manon, I have already done it😢. Next video "how to fix ur scratched paint at home" plz 🫣
We've already got that video! czcams.com/video/6Abcb81xo3M/video.htmlsi=xzDh-Soc8zFmnmfA 👍
