    What I love is how Frank always has a look on his face that expresses that he is simply disgusted with these people because they don't have a valid point to stand on.

      @@deerobinson557 That’s how I see it too. Rizzi didn’t strike me as the slightest bit polite or relaxed. He also flatly declared that nothing Zappa could say could possibly change his mind. Someone who makes that sort of declaration is not discussing and not even really debating. He’s merely attempting to shout his opponent down.

    As one who's been both a longtime Zappa fan (since age 11, in 1971), who always preferred his music over his theatrics & politics, & a performing musician & songwriter, also a parent & grandparent who cared about what kind of 'input' went into my kids' thinking, I've always seen some validity in both sides of this argument.
    Anyone who tries can think of situations in life that call for complete freedom of expression, & other situations that call for self-restraint, for whatever reasons; the truth is somewhere in between the extremes of opinion. It's actually a complex discussion which is beyond the scope of this comment.
    The one thing I can say about this clip is: of all the people in the world to sit in 1:1 debate against Frank Zappa about this sensitive & volatile subject, who is this idiot, a former X-rated bookstore owner, a "smut-peddler-become-born-again-Christian" with a half can of spray in his bouffant hairdo, who is this inconsequential fool to be privileged to even sit next to a genius like Zappa in the same forum?
    The whole thing is an insult to Zappa's intelligence. The combined intellect of everyone else on the screen leaves off where Zappa's begins.
    Even though I personally believe that sometimes a certain amount of censorship, or better yet, self-restraint on the part of creative artists as to how they express themselves, can actually spawn more refined works of greater artistic value, Zappa was standing up for everyone against what threatens to become a totalitarian, authoritarian society based on one set of values, dangerous stuff indeed, & to make his point he often suffered the indignity of being pitted head-to-head against people not worthy to shine his shoes.

    what i believe it is that parents are so ready to blame everything but them selves for what children are doing or whats happening in the world. In this case they believe that rock is one to blame for corrupting children, if a child really gets corrupt from music then its the parents job to set them strait and say hey this is whats bad and this whats good. People are so afraid to simply admit that they were wrong and so they'd rather bring the world down than admit to their mistake.

    • @KingCrimson82
      @KingCrimson82 Před 3 lety +1

      common, if it rains and you are outside without a rain coat what happens. 2 things are true and if you do not admit you are full of shit.. we are vessels conditioned by our inviroment and surroundings. and it does take an MASSIVE effect. but zappa himself said that about mtv later , so. as he said it, it was about words in the first place. mtv took words and made them visible and that created echo chambers for the fasion and drug industry. in the video to bobby brown you just see the band, i translated it with 36 and i wish i never did. So frank was on the brink to understand that rick was right. but if it just was records and you as an artist arent allowed to write what you want it would be screwed.sadly it isnt.

    • @Dorsalwarrior0
      @Dorsalwarrior0 Před 3 lety

      @@KingCrimson82 totally agree, I think looking back at my comment I could’ve been a little more diplomatic about what I said. I absolute agree that people are influcened by the world around them which include the music they listen to, however I also believe it’s the parents job to educate their child on what’s acceptable and what isn’t so if they do see something troubling like what’s presented in these songs they are equipped to realize that these songs and what they sing about is not something to repeat. Also I should say I actually don’t like what many of these artists sing about, I just think they have a right to say it and people if realize “hey this is troubling and I don’t like it, I won’t buy” then it won’t exist anymore, or at least in main stream media. Also I think the pmrc could’ve been a great tool to parents letting them know what songs are troubling and creating a news letter or something to let parents know what is perhaps something to look out for.
