I’ve owned both of these but ultimately sold them on. Rambler mini was too big to be portable and had a really boxy sound. The petite 2 didn’t sound good enough for the £99 price tag. The search continues!! Think I’ve been spoiled by my relatively retro Pure Evoke 2XT, they don’t make them like they used to.

Ah, I did have an Evoke 2XT - it was very good at the time but I seem to recall the display broke on it. I do still have a Pure Evoke 1S (& the external S1 speaker) that’s just about still functioning ok! A few dodgy buttons on it but it works as long as I have a little patience with it!
I do agree the Rambler Mini sounds a bit boxy - I think I am going to send that one back. I can’t agree with you about the Petite though: personally I think that sounds fantastic for its size 👍👍 It not going to compete with something much bigger but I think it has a really nicely balanced sound presentation in a very compact format. Still haven’t found anything which is perfect though, as you say! ✌️🙂

Roberts was such a big British brand in the sixties. Now they are just cheap Chinese crap, like everything else.

You’re quite right that Roberts stuff is made in China nowadays, but I believe it’s made by Sangean and they make some excellent gear. Almost all uk manufacturing is unfortunately now long dead isn’t it but Chinese stuff doesn’t necessarily automatically mean it’s crap 🤷‍♂️ This is a great radio, and well made 👍

@@accoutrements4469 I remember when everyone fell into the trap of saying 'Jap-crap,' and that turned around a practically wiped out many British industries. China has come on a long way. They listen to feedback, and adapt, just like Japan did.....does!
