    I bought the durametric enthusiast and was a waste for my car. I have the 1999 porsche 996 . I tried the icarsoft960 also both were suppost to cover the airbag systems neither one works. the durametric would not do many of the things work. I emailed durametric about the airbag system and I was told that it did not. I wanted to get the actual values but nothing came up. I emailed duramtric and got no response. if you h ha ave a 1999 996 porsche these diagnostic tools do not cover the air bags. I spent time and money for crap.

      @BurnersCars  Před 7 lety +1

      That's disappointing. I know the 1996-1999 Porsches use an earlier ECU... but I have no idea why that would make accessing airbag values impossible. I haven't ever talked to Durametric, but I'm disappointed their customer service is so poor. I'll pin this so other's with the .
      5.2.2 Bosch firmware can be warned!

    Burner, your video gave me information on Durametric Diagnostic tool that i really needed. I made the decision to buy the tool because of you and with laptop and Durametric in hand, the confidence to go through with a 2004 Porsche 911 (996) purchase. The car had already had the"IMS Solution" along with other preventative/ proactive maintenance. But, I still needed to see over - rev, crankshaft performance and other data for myself. The Durametric worked perfectly the first time out of the box. Gladly, I am impressed by Durametric`s performance. I highly recommend it for anyone considering a purchase. I bought the Enthusiast version and it's a fair price for the piece of mind it provided. Thanks again for this excellent and informative video.

    Great info Ben. For those of you who do not want to spend the money for a new unit, you can find them used on forums such as 986forum, renntech and such. The price will vary depending on how many VINs' have been used. The Enthusiast unit (cheapest model) only allow up to 3 different VINs' to be used. Generally take $50 off for each VIN used, so you can find them with 1 VIN left for $180 shipped pretty easily.

    This obviously isn't an official Porsche tool so there may be important limitations inherent to it. .....BUT,,,, every person shopping a used Porsche should consider this tool an absolute must! ....It does give access to the over rev report so you can make an informed decision on how the previous owner treated the engine. ....I would think that EVERY buyer armed with the knowledge of this tool could convince Porsche sellers to provide the DME report. .......Or let them know you plan to shop elsewhere! .......After all, monitoring of all these systems is what helps a well cared for Porsche hold it's value.

      Great question! This is something I want to know. I think the 101 Boxster Projects book mentions the need to activate the ABS when bleeding the brakes. I've been curious 1) if that's really required (I've read others say it isn't) and why it's necessary, and 2) whether the Durametric is the only tool that you can use to do it.

    Thanks Ben. I must explore my Duremetric tool more. Mine is just a 2.5. I have modified exhaust and intake. It goes really good compared to when I bought the car. The main difference I felt was modifiying my intake plenum and headers. The torque comes in around 2500 rpm and pulls strong right up to redline. I did not feel that the under drive pulley made any noticeable difference apart from lower engine accessory noise level at idle. The Crios mod and desnorkling has been awesome for sound. Took off the Circuit Werks catback muffler as it resonated at cruising revs. 235/19 & 295/19 wheels improved handling. It would be interesting to map the fuel mix and air flow.
    Thanks for your Vlogs.

    • @BurnersCars
      @BurnersCars  Před 7 lety

      Indeed it would. The standard ECU can adapt within a range, but you've made some significant upgrades. I'd be curious to see if that has affected fuel mix, etc. You're not the first person who's had good results with a plenum / headers. It's definitely something I'd like to look into in the future.

    If you think $287 for the Enthusiast version is a lot, I had one which I later sold, try spending $735 for the Professional version which I now have. Really Durametric, you need to pull up your socks. I just downloaded the Durametric User Guide dated June 10, 2019 and you still show screen shots from versions ages ago. Plus your "Service Interval Reset - Oil" video that you have on your own web site, the version shown is 5.1.2.0, yet we are at 6.5.5.12 today. Come on guys!

    I just wish in 2022 Durametric would convert or offer their awesome software and interface on mobile devices. My last vehicle was a 2010 Infiniti G37. Purchased and downloaded the hardware/software from EcuTek, plugged in the OBD2 dongle that streamed Bluetooth to the app on my phone and was able to give me real time parameters and data logging i.e. wideband AFRs, timing, knock, pressures, temps etc. While Durametric seems like the best option for my new-to-me 2011 Cayenne Turbo, it's still a bit behind the times and I'd hate to have to haul around a laptop and a long OBDII cable with me all the time just to be able to data log. I imagine they'll never do anything as innovative as other manufacturers because well, it's Porsche after all. Snooty. Then again, the Cobb Accessport is available for some models...

    Came over to see if I missed something about my Durametric which is now by all means dated, I went from the enthusiast to the pro which I totally regret because it didn't give me enough of what I believe I should be getting for the price. There are many universal tools out there now with way more capabilities and unfortunately Durametric has not updated their software much. I now use a top end Autel tool which is amazing to say the least, I tried to use my Durametric again recently and it just doesn't cut it. (Cars 2007 C2S and 2012 CTT)

      I have a 2010 Cayman S 987.2 and have had the same problem. I was reaching down and moving the lever on the switch until a new one came for me to install; which corrected the problem for me. In retrospect, the positioning of the switch may have cured to irritating problem. The new switch had a different part # on the switch, but looked identical otherwise. After I got the original switch out and installed the new one, I performed a continuity test on the old one and it worked just fine; go figure 🙄🤣😂. I didn't want to install a jumper or a fuse in that area, as it would blow and I would pop due to Murphy's Law.

    Not surprising when you consider there location and the years of heat cycleing!

      Stephen Anderson I have the Schwaben reader tool. So far it's been very good. I've been able to reset the 'Service Now' message on our 2006 Cayenne and it's got a ton of control features...menu and operation is a bit tedious but it's fast and small. I really like it so far.

    • @theplayernkc

      No, the Durametric can not program a key fob. About the only thing the Durametric will do outside of reading/clearing faults and testing, is turn on the OBC to the instrument cluster. You would need to install the 4 stalk column to take advantage of the OBC.

    I'm sorry, the best diagnostic tool for PORSCHE IS THE PIWIS II TOOL design BY PORSCHE ,, superseded by PIWIS III for newer cars beyond 2017,,, I had to stop you there as there are some people out there that are misinformed and think the way you do, yes THE PIWIS TOOL is more expensive tool and beyond some people's budget , but it is the best tool for Porsche programming and repairs, this is the tool that Porsche uses to service all Porsches to date, May 2017...... you'll also find the PIWIS tool used BY independent porsche specialist service facilities ,,, IF YOU FIND THEM USING ANY OTHER TOO TO SERVICE YOUR PORSCHE ,,,, RUN! And do not return .... there are some functions that the Durametric tool can't access on Porsche, like Turing on new functions ,,, you should inform your viewers about THE PIWIS so that you don't LOOK LIKE YOU ARE promoting the Durametric company over other options .....

    • @BurnersCars
      @BurnersCars  Před 7 lety +8

      Fair points. I'm aware of the PIWIS tools, but they are difficult to find and extremely expensive, so they are out of reach for the average enthusiast (including me). I took for granted that most people would realize that Porsche has tools that are superior to 3rd party enthusiast solutions. This video is really about diy tools. If this were a discussion about what to look for in an independent Porsche specialist, things would be different...

    Ben,
    Considering the nature of this video I thought I'd ask you this question. Have you ever run into the problem with your Boxster when the radio won't turn off when you remove the key? This has happened to me several times now with 2 different aftermarket radios. (I just replaced the 10-yr.-old Pioneer with a brand new Pioneer.) The only solution I know of is to disconnect the battery and reconnect it again. Would you think the Durametric Tool would be able to help? The Internet lists other instances of this happening, but no single clear culprit. Thanks.

    • @BurnersCars
      @BurnersCars  Před 7 lety

      Huh. That sounds frustrating! I don't think the Durametric Tool would be any help. At least on my car, it doesn't return info on the radio or sound system.

      @@BurnersCars When you turn off the car and remove the key, you should hear a mechanical click, it disconnects the power from the various key controlled system. Mine didn't click off reliably, I used Brake Cleaner through the straw and washed all the old gunk, dust, and grease out, it took several tries, and working the key back and forth helps. I then sprayed in aerosol gun lube (doesn't attract dirt) and two years later it's still working perfectly.

    Hi,
    I bought a 996 cabriolet 2000. According to previous owner, the roof( soft top) need synchronizing. All parts work but need to be synchronized..
    Do you know if the durametric is able to get to the softtop modules and provide you with actual values of resistance on actuaters and ability to input values?
    Thanks in advance. I enjoy your videos.

      Thank you for your reply. Luckely, mine came with the hard top, so for now I am covered. I will wait until the weather permits and get working on it.
      I getting slowly to know my car...
      I am hearing a noise from the rear when over bumps. I have to drive it without the hard top to make sure it is not the cause.I still need to go under the car. But as I was replacing the dirty angine air filter I noticed two engine mounts with mid 2014 stamps on it.
      Any thoughts on what should look for when I put it on stands and looking under the car?

    • @BurnersCars
      @BurnersCars  Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah, I have a hard top for mine, too. It's really useful. As for the noise, the first thing I'd check would be the control arms and related suspension components. It's pretty common for the rubber bushings to wear out and start making noises.

    • @RossieNet

    Can you measure over revs with it?

    • @BurnersCars
      @BurnersCars  Před 7 lety

      You can measure rpm and plot a variety of data on a graph along side rpm. Is that what you mean?

    • @RossieNet
      @RossieNet Před 6 lety

      I think Craig is talking about how the ECU keeps track of the number of ignitions at or over redline. It's a good way to see if an engine has been abused. I can tell you that Durametric can check for over revs. The data has to be interpreted however, it's provided as the number of ignitions rather than seconds etc. It does provide total ignitions but only reports the most recent engine hour that there was an over rev. Lastly, it provides slightly different data based on the ECU, older 996's only have zone 1 and zone 2 (if I remember correctly), newer ones have more zones to provide more information about the over rev.

    • @cabbys
      @cabbys Před 4 lety

      Durametric definitely captures over revs. I purchased a 2004 C4S withX51 and 6 speed manual transmission a year ago and used this to insure there weren't any range 2 or 3 over revs. Gave me confidence before i put my money down. The car was and still is solid.
