- With these mods, I aim to improve the core gameplay of GTA 4 without changing the experience too much. There are 4 main mods, and 3 add-ons or alternatives, meaning a few others than can either be combined with the main ones or replaced by them. Honestly, replaying the game, I really love the concept of Liberty City being more so about survival in this incredibly hostile and gritty environment rather than just another open world sandbox. It fits the game thematically and sets it apart from other GTA games very well.

@Beyond The Stars The map is bigger, but empty. GTA 4 got the formula right on map size vs things to do density. GTA 5 went back to the bigger map and there's almost nothing interesting to do on a majority of it.
GTA 4 is already the best GTA we've ever had. If it had some of the personalisation and such from San Andreas, it'd be mindblowing.

YOU CAN DO IT! I've felt the exact same way, just make sure you're doing extensive research, and also try modding a completely fresh install downgraded to patch 1070 or 1040. Good luck to ya.

GTA IV is a timeless gem. Modders are bloody incredible aye. If I had plenty of money I'd donate a fair bit to them for prolonging these already great games. Wicked how respectful the creator of the video is to them too. Damn right, they should get a lot more recognition, or paid jobs by these big developers. Lovely video.
Most modders have more love and passion for most games than these devs and publishers do!

Now's the best time to do it, it's actually playable and really fun on PC if you get it from steam. I got it kinda free, because I owned EFLC & TLAD, so I got GTA IV original which I never had on PC before, the story is brilliant.

@@Helvigster There's a PlayStation 2 game called The Getaway that uses turn signals as navigation between places as a result of the game itself not having a map/radar, it was pretty revolutionary and ahead of it's time! My younger self was mind blown seeing working turn signals in a game, given in games like GTA you'd only see traffic on the roads using them, if even at all sometimes!

i wanna see a mod where, the more money you have, the more you grow a target on the back of your head to being robbed for all that money you have. that way there is actually a reason to grind money in the game, need to keep ammo to protect your money, or you need to gain all your money back. kinda like the mugging thing on gta 5, but rather then someone setting the target, the target is automatically applied after you gain a specific amount of money
I really enjoy that type of gameplay too, I love your idea.

I installed all of them, except the Realistic Driving and Flying. I love the driving in GTA 4, it's so fun driving a car on Vanilla.

Looking at the games industry now, we were very lucky we got GTA 4 with such dedication to player feel than looks.
All the stuff I modded into gta5 like ragdoll, damage physics, vehicle handling....its already there in gta4

I have battled with Steam version of GTAIV stability on the PC for YEARS. In May 2020 I purchased the RockStar Launcher version and it is running at a consistent 60fps. After all of these years I am now able to not only play the game finally but Mod it also. It feels like it's been a lifetime. Thank you for your video.
Did you successfully downgrade the complete edition? Didn't know it improved FPS either, wow!
@@InternetRob I did almost everything that I could find to make my Steam version of GTA IV stable to alleviate the slow downs, stutters, and crashes. Downgrade, patches, ini tweaks, drivers, config Mods. In all these years I have probably never played more than 4 hours into the story. A few days ago I took a chance on buying the Rockstar Launcher version and I am beyond pleased. It is running at 60fps even with the CryENB V3 installed with game settings maxed at 4K. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption don't give me a constant 60fps.

Did you have to downgrade the complete edition though? To get CRY ENB V3 to work. People are having problems downgrading it and I would love to know if and how you did it.
@@InternetRob I've done no adjustment or tweaking to the RockStar version of GTA IV so far. From the moment I first tried it it gave me 60fps with no slow down. I Saw your great video, backed up my files, and installed CryENB V3. The ENB has made an amazing improvement to the game's visuals and it's still running at 60fps with the games options at Max.

Never played any DLC for this game(xbox died), now I can replay vanilla, DLC, AND Mods with a brand new PC !
My dlc cd got f*cked has a lot of scratches on it and the Xbox can't read it no more i got two cd but no one works so i need a pc to play all of them there with that native trainer

I personally liked that GTA IV was detached from a currency. GTA IV Online had so much more interaction with players & a community. GTA 5 Online everyone hid in their houses with passive mode on. Different times.

I tested realistic driving with the centered camera mod. Those mods combined with GTA IV's awesome physic engine is pure fun. Its beyond sad that Rockstar keeps ignoring this gem.

The only minus of gta IV is the fact that it hasn`t a smooth gameplay like in V.
Yeah that is an issue, I think the only people getting smooth GTA IV gameplay are NASA employees.
@Cletus Durand For smoother gameplay, patching the game will help.
@@lastride3303 but the only patch that works with mod is 1.0.4.0, but I also didn't know are newer patches have better or worse performance.
@@nahrafe Patch 1.0.7.0 is compatible with mods, and from my experience, it provides the best performance among all the other patches.
Yeah 1070 works too, but I'm 80% sure that 1040 is best for performance, according to the community.

Notice how much better this games euphoria engine was, from bullet impact to car physics and not seen here, but the fight mechanics were beautiful

Few years ago i changed weapons file so they have realistic dammage. For non armored NPC 3 shots from 9mm, 2 or 1 shot from anything else are lethal. Niko suffers much more aswell
Gta IV already had realistic ttk. You don't instantly die from being shot in the leg.
I can agree with studioes keeping unlit areas lit. Since these games have massive maps, and there could be lots of ares without proper light. I think it is the classic "realism vs gameplay" situation, which i would choose latter
Yeah, I really do not like it when I am playing a video game and my whole screen is black because it's so dark. I want to be able to see! But a good compromise would just be very dim darkness, but not pitch black
6:20 that's why games aren't fun to play any more I remember my first gta vice city it wasnt the real one but the gta vc undercover2 the one that tommy with the red shirt I was paying for the fuel and it was a challenge to keep it full and all the cars are the ones that I find out in the city there were Ford mustang the mercedes the chevrolet gta 5 was unfun to play .

the driving is fine as it is, it now looks as if all the cars have slick tires. i would say more unrealistic.
Perhaps, I don't drive myself so it's possible. I'm definitely no expert and can't confirm it's "realistic". However if you're modding GTA IV, I encourage you give it a try and get back to me. I too think vanilla driving is fine, but this mod makes it so much more fun. And at the end of the day, that's what this video was aiming for, not realism.

7:08 that mod remains me the same mechanic in "ScareFace:the world is yours". but saving the money was like a minigame to avoid pay too much to te bank (commission or something) after that can save the game progress as well.

One of my biggest gripes with this game was the swat guys that could take about a clip of assault rifle rounds and still be a alive.
@@BaldingSasquatch The normal police are like that too. Enemies shouldn’t be able to take 15 rounds to the chest and survive, I don’t care who they are.

well that just ruins what the game is supposed to be, the game has a bland color pallet to portray the city to be depressing and go with the storyline. the cars feel realistic mostly, slow cars are made to be slow on purpose, and fast cars are moderately fast.
My favorite mod it's being able to run the game smoothly, it's a shame that rockstar never released it on PC

Allahu Akbar. I spent 2 days modding GTA 4, going through all the steps, including downgrading. After many trial and errors I managed to install every single mod Im interested in...
Funny thing is... I would mod for hours non stop, not eat, drink, sleep..etc but now that everything is working, I have no desire to play.. I rather look at other games and think how can i improve this game now lol. the fuck is wrong with me.

Thank you. I could talk about this pain for hours on end. I modded GTA San Andreas for so long, trying to "perfect" my game, especially with the explosion/blood effects, the rampaging does not entertain me anymore. The ragdoll mod I installed got more boring as I tested for the blood effects.
This could be why we don't really see game devs play their own games all that much, unless the game can actually be unique and refreshing based on the levels played, like doom. Doom can be played with custom maps too, which gives a reason to come back.
One day you will surely feel like playing GTA IV again, and when you do, make sure to enjoy it. Enjoy even the little details you brought into it with the help of mods. But remember, do not dwell on the ragdollism and combat on only one part of the game like how I did, but enjoy the physics of the game throughout the main campaign. Cheers.

Very nice vid it was a joy to watch! Keep it up! Also.. for the best graphics overhaul lords neophytes hq retexture pack is a must! It replaces those old textures, with high definition ones and it doesn’t even hit the performance that much! I would also recommend plane path improvement, improved fire fighters and fbi fix. These make the over all experience that much more true to life!

@@InternetRob No problem man, it was you who got me into this so i am glad i can help and recommend some mods that i found to be really good.
To be more specific the fire fighters fix is called Improved Fire Inspectors v2 and the fbi fix is called Security Guard and Fib Fix.
I would also highly suggest you to try the improved thunder and rain sounds (it is incredible) and the real rain which makes the rain particles more realistic (combine them with an ENB or VisualIV and you will get an incredible experience!).
I didn't mentioned the last two mods in my first comment just because i didn't want to overwhelm you but the more i play with those the more i want you to know about them.

I found this video while searching again for "gta iv character movement mod", sad it doesn't feature anything of the kind.
I mean, the code is right there, just having the character control like in the online mode would be an improvement, where it's like sprint is held automatically, you can already sprint by moving the analog stick full on, and less so to walk slower. Wouldn't mind having to tap to run faster though.
I can't just tape the sprint button though, because then Niko will have an animation of him getting up to speed, no matter how much I move the stick, so you can have him getting a run up to just walk.

Nah I don't think so, though there are some commandlines that can probably be of use to you. In fact, there's a mod out there that compiles loads of them together in a text file, look it up if you think it might help :) I usually get about 35 fps, though dips do occur, I likely wouldn't show any of that footage though. So yeah, not great, but definitely playable!
Thanks for the reply , I will look into the command lines. I did see in another comment that you have downgraded to an older patch which I've not tried yet. I am on the current complete edition release and it's a bit vague on what works at the moment. I have however installed a few of your mods in the video and they work great!
yeah man, for most mods (like bank account I guess) you need to be on a downgraded patch, I'm using 1070.

The way GTA IVs graphics look are that way on purpose, making it all bright, clear and clean clashes so hard with the game's aesthetic that it's borderline unplayable, it's a different game.
Exactly, same applies to the heavyweight driving. It's there to make it realistic. Wich i get isn't everyone's cup of tea but it's there for a reason. The devs made it this way for a realistic experience. Cars IRL don't drive at 200 kmh and still manage to do a 90 degree Sharp turn with no consequences
@@blackbeast9268 nah man the traction for example is like summer tires on snow. Also in no game, not even gta sa, u can make a clean 90° sharp turn rolling 200km/h

i really like RealityIV 2.0 but i prefer cryENB , maybe its just beacause i got used to it ( i played almost all the game with it) but im in love how cryENB looks.

Main complaint I have with this game is primarily that at certain times the game is too dark, especially at night.

Yeah, the cars in this game always felt like the struts and springs were blown out. I don’t know why they decided to make all the suspension on the cars incredibly soft.
Just found your channel I love iv and I'm suprised how people disregard it what made me not like it as much was how washed out the game was with the HD graphics improvements it looks awesome i watched your 50mods part 2and it seemed like a better experience then gta 5
Hey man, I just installed GTA 4 The Complete Edition and wanted to add these mods, but i've got no idea how to do it, most of the stuff online is outdated, could not find a guide for 2020 version of the game, plus would the Rockstar Games Launcher even allow me to modify the game files? Would be great if You could upload a Modding Guide video with all the basic stuff You have to install for Modding

appreciate the kind words. I don't really have any answers for you sorry but I know it's possible to do, there have been videos showing how to downgrade the new version of GTA IV for example. Maybe they can help, I hope so.

Hey Rob great video , do you think you could make a tutorial on how you to install these mods without breaking your game ? Because recently I got the game again
and tried installing mods from your videos but I ended up with a loading screen at the start of the game that just entirely wont be fixed .
I gotta thank you for asking me so politely, most people that want a tutorial just comment "make tutorial video how to instal mods" or something. It's pretty rude and annoying to me. Glad to hear you're playing GTA IV, sorry your experiencing these problems, at the moment I have no plans on making a tutorial but I am considering it. For now, please do some research as there are already tutorials out there on YT and Google. I suspect you've had a problem making the game moddable, so make sure you've downgraded correctly. Sorry I can't help further but thanks again for the comment.
