Vario has a lovely collection of unusual watches - especially vintage inspired designs. These sre grest additions to the collection and nice watches in their own right. I'm not sure I can get used to a single hander, but it's a lovely watch. The D12 watch is a nice example and a nice break from the Euro-centric tradition.

I have both these watches. The 1945 is fast becoming my favourite field watch to wear, light, practical and got some style. The Navi I'm still getting used to however it is very well made. I know many people focus on that amazing dial design however the crown is wonderful. Of the two I'd say the 1945 is very practical but the Navi is just so well thought out and designed, and lovely to wear.

The Vario Navi ‘s crown is shaped like the traditional US sailors hat. I have one in blue and really enjoy it since I am retired and like the looseness of time as in this watch. Vario is my favorite Micro Brand and I have several of their watches. Thanks, I enjoy your classy reviews!

I'm a Brit and love the field watch though the depiction of the British soldier at the fall of Singapore was not our finest hour. I get this is a Singaporean watch and has that perspective. I'd like to put it on record that in September 1945 HMS Sussex entered Singapore harbour to officially end Japanese occupation and the instrument of surrender of Japanese forces in that area took place in the city, Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten signing for the Allies, General Itagaki for the Japanese. Just saying. A bitter campaign, ultimately successful, was fought during the three years of occupation to keep the Japanese from India and its natural resources. It's largely a forgotten campaign though Lieutenant General Bill Slim who led Allied forces is regarded by many as one of the great WW2 leaders.

@IDKline I'm confused too. It appears to be having a dig at the then colonial masters. It's a matter of history that the three and a half years after capitulation were no picnic for the indigenous Singaporeans either. Or am I missing something?

Very unique Varios, thanks Tim. Love the single hand concept or the counterpart jump hour type- alternatives.

Both watches look good, but that second watch looks very smart!

Wasn't the coin edge bezel implemented when it was used to secure the crystal in place? like you'd literally screw in the bezel to seal the crystal against the case? Or am I mixing it up with the Rolex Oystercase and it's flutted bezel?

The Navi Single Hand is interesting. The field watch is pretty "meh", but I could see where it might appeal to someone.

2 lovely pieces, altho prefer 20mm lug width even on a 37mm case, as a preferable visual proportion

Off-topic: i would like very much to see a video on leather straps maintenance and cleaning tips, particularly against sweat and maybe the unavoidable rain. I love the aesthetics of leather but living in a tropical country it's a bit hard to fight off the suspicious effects of weather and such.

This would be a great watch for me in retirement, but until then, I'd go nuts with my compulsive tendencies to be on time. Haha. Great video and review

To me the D12 is an example of a watch made by someone who appreciates watches.
Vario put their ego aside, with the simplicity of the dial logo, to focus on providing a well
built, simple and purpose driven watch. It is ashamed about the strap rub.

Why did the small seconds hand jump at 9:35 in the video when you moved your hand?
I really like the look of that single hand but that jump worried me.
*edit* was it just due to editing?

Most likely due to editing. Sometimes I just mispronounce something and then the director yells "Cut!" ;-)

The dial on the 1945 looks like pressed plastic in pictures. Perhaps better in hand.

How wrong they were living in luxury in Raffles .
