Cringe interviewer, but a great blast to the past and 3 incredibly great actors. I still cry when I watch La Bamba. The story hits close to home for me because I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and LA too.
Strangely enough, I met Ritchie Valens’ father’s cousin at karaoke on the actual anniversary of the day that plane crashed about 5 years ago… It happens to be the birthday of a friend of mine. We went to sing karaoke at a Mexican restaurant we love in Huntington Beach and a man approached me to compliment my singing! After he walked away, the VJ told me who he was. How ironic that it was the anniversary on that very day and I’d been posting Ritchie Valens songs and articles about “The Day The Music Died” just hours before I would meet a family member of his.
I talked a bit to him. He didn’t realize it was the anniversary of that fateful crash that changed the music industry forever and broke a lot of hearts.
RIP to Elizabeth Pena. I was very saddened to hear of her untimely passing in 2014. She was a brilliant actress and she and my mother were both born in 1959. Life is so very fragile.

@@danielupsdell2697 #1 Rule I learned in college, learn who you are interviewing, something they love (favorite food, local brewery, museum) and now to PRONOUNCE THEIR NAME. That was drilled into me, and I am behind the scenes. Example: Dennis Weaver came to our station, and while we were getting shots set, etc.., I asked him about his famous chili. He was amazed, and about a month later, he made a big pot of his chili when Ridgway HS won the state basketball championship. All of the community loved it.

Yes I have to agree, I knew from the start when she missed pronounce the word “biopic” I think she was trying to mix it in with some other phrase like “biographical epic”or something.
Funny she’s told to be quiet, I think she probably had a few glasses of wine before the interview, that’s very common at film festivals and other events, people who are the press are supposed to paste themselves so they don’t go on camera at all loopy or stutter stumbling on their words.
She seemed pretty culturally confused didn’t know how to use the word Chicano so she was kept using Latino, Latin and Mexican as genres or cultures.

That's how the majority of white women think, talk, and behave around people with a genuine culture, whereas her background probably consists of cultural appropriation of names, foods, and fashion, for example they call a burrito a wrap, and most if not all of the white rock acts of the 50s copied heavily from black blues and jazz musicians.

Lou Diamond Phillips has a fascinating background. Phillips was born at the Subic Bay Naval Station in the Philippines, the son of Lucita Umayam Arañas and Gerald Amon Upchurch, an officer in the United States Navy.[1][4][5] His father was an American of Scots-Irish and one-quarter Cherokee descent, and his mother, a native of Candelaria, Zambales, is Filipino, with distant Spanish ancestry.[5][6][7]

The interviewer seems nice. Strange, but nice. Being a nice person is most important.

Wow, terrible interviewer. “I’m a huge fan of all of you!” she says as she struggles to pronounce Esai Morales’ name. The actors and the movie deserve so much better.

Actually 22 months prior to her death (Oct. 14, 2014) from alcoholism. I loved her work in Jacob's Ladder and Lone Star.
