Cartoon Network is rebooting The Powerpuff Girls & Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, for a new generation. With this news having mixed reactions, I wanted to take a look at the nature of reboots, the entertainment industry and why our childhood cartoons keep refusing to die.

Please don't let Ed Edd n' Eddy ever get rebooted. It will be an atrocity.

The reason Craig is bringing back the powerpuff girls is probably because he's tired of watching them get butchered. It would be cool to see Bunny again, or make an even bigger bad than Mojo

If Ed Edd n Eddy ever gets rebooted it’s considered a criminal offense

The reason why they're rebooting everything is because they're completely out of ideas and they're sitting there thinking "they worked originally so why can't they work again?"

Why not let each generation have their own unique shows rehashing old show is just lazy.

  • @JimJones-zc9mk

The reason they are rebooting your childhood is because they want your money and your kids money at the same time.

Even though i'd be interested to see where an EENE reboot would go, i really hope they never reboot it the original series did well enough on it's own and a reboot would just ruin all of that even if all of the original voice actors came back it would still be bad, i mean the reboots of shows that we have so far aren't that bad but still i'd rather not see every classic cartoon get rebooted.

Remember back in 2000s when cartoons were original

The "My childhood was better than yours" spiel never fails to make me feel pain...

To be fair, the Clone High revival/reboot makes actual sense; considering how the old show ended on a bad cliffhanger without any resolution.

The most tragic thing about this whole reboot culture we're in, is that there is an entire generation of creators, especially in animation, whose ideas and concepts will never see the light of day because cashing in on millennial and early gen z nostalgia is extremely profitable. It also makes you wonder why we have not seen studios do the same thing with earlier properties like the Flintstones and the Jetsons and Yogi bear. With the exceptions of Scooby-doo, Looney Toons, and the Smurfs. I think it's because that generation has grown up and has left their childhood in the past. You don't see boomers clamoring for studios to reboot shows from their youth; whereas millennials seem to be stuck mentally in the past; which I think is indicative of a larger issue at hand. It sucks because for every PPG and Ben10 reboot that takes a time slot on the network, it could have been filled by something new and original. Just look at how Nickelodeon/Viacom treats new animated shows, if they don't pull Spongebob numbers in the first season they get canceled. I don't think that this issue goes away until our generation moves on from the past and allows new younger creators to take the helm of animation for a new generation. But hey, that's just a theory.

There can never be a show as great as Ed, Edd N' Eddy, and that's a fact.

Reboots are fine as long as it's done by it's original creator, but, I think it's better to do a new original premise.

If there's one thing I can't stand about revivals, it's comic book continuations. You basically have to find every single issue of a comic series adapted from a show you loved watching but they're extremely hard to find in stores, there's a million of them if you're behind on them and you live in a overstuffed apartment and don't know where to put them. This is why I choose to watch videos that just show us the pages instead. I've had to do this for Smallville Season 11, Revolution Season 3 and I only just got started on Avatar The Promise.

as much as I've LOVED The original Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends I'd hope the new ReBoot with the same creator onboard as well as the pre-school Foster's Home series I'd hope there Both done right with Craig McCracken

Aside from the aforementioned He Man and She Ra; unfortunately for me the only cartoons I'm nostalgic for are old and kind of obscure. I would be shocked (and admittedly happy) to hear of a Wildfire the Stallion or Pirates of Darkwater reboot.

I feel like animation at this point is relatively summed up to "Pick a popular franchise and make it kid-friendly or modern.
