    Before I comment the three add ons mentioned in this video (and before I explain why I stopped using them) let me tell you that I've tried everything in vain to reduce stutters in MSFS since SU14. Unintentionally I became kind of "MSFS stutter expert".
    Only some of the things I tried: Rolling cache on vs. off, DX 11 vs DX 12, clearing DX cache, messed around with cache settings in the NVIDIA control panel (when I was still using a 3080), moved to a AMD card (RX 7900XTX) this time messing around in AMD Adrenaline, excluded msfs folders from AV real time scanning, optimized my SSD performance, extended the Windows page file, tried several options back and forth in the "Gaming" section of the Windows settings, changed several settings of my internet connection, optimized CPU settings in the BIOS, etc., etc., etc.
    Conclusion:
    THE ONE type of stutter does not exist. There are MULTIPLE categories of stutters:
    1.) Stutters caused by GPU limitation:
    Almost not relevant in MSFS. You will not perceive them. Neither on a 3080 nor on a RX7900XTX or similar. Forget about your GPU in MSFS on a well configured rig and owning a mid to high range GPU.
    2.) Stutters caused by internet bandwith limitation:
    Relevant. Streaming Bing maps data and photogrammetry data demands low latency and high bandwith (My estimate: min. 150Mbit, better 250Mbit).
    But even if you did everything possible you can that gives you a perfect internet connection you are still at the mercy of MS/Asobo servers. And they perform some days well and some days bad.
    If you're struggling with low Internet bandwidth, turning the rolling cache to ON might be an option for you.
    3.) Before explaining the most important point "CPU limitation" in 4.) let me tell you that there are still stutters of unknown provenence, not fitting in one of the other categories mentioned.
    In a situation where you have enough GPU/CPU headroom and constant high FPS, strange type of stutters can still occur. (One example is moving the camera in the cockpit vertically on currently high FPS when looking through the front window in specific scenarios. When the view is crossing the horizon, stutters of unknown provenence occur. Might be caused by loading and unloading objects into the sim in this situation. To reproduce it, spawn on EDDK, Gate 18D. Look into the direction of the airport and move the camera up and down. You can lower the TLOD and OLOD almost close to zero and stutters will still occur. Strangely this does not happen, when rotating the camera horizontally.)
    4.) Stutters caused by CPU limitation:
    Most important point. MSFS is mainly limited by its main thread, which is running on a single CPU core. Even on a high end CPU you will find one core always busy close to 100%. LOD has the heaviest impact on CPU load of all graphics settings in MSFS.
    So reducing the LOD on high CPU load and ramping up LOD on low CPU load (this is what the three tools explained in the video are trying to achieve) would be the optimum approach in a perfect world.
    If there wasn't cause Nr. 5.).
    5.) Stutters caused by external software accessing MSFS parameters:
    Although I fully agree that a dynamic LOD solution is a must in MSFS and I would have expected MS/Asobo to implement this feature themselves into the sim, I stopped using Dynamic LOD, Auto FPS and Smooth Flight after testing all of them. The reason is, that new kinds of stutters are introduced each time one of the tools adjusts the LOD level. Either calls to the Mobi Connect lib are causing this or the LOD change in the sim itself is triggering something.
    Btw. Tools like Little Navmap (flight planning software), FSLTL (real time traffic tool) and others are causing stutters as well, when polling parameters from the sim. So this is nothing special related to the Dynamic LOD tools.
    Don't get me wrong. Being a software engineer myself I totally respect the work that went into these tools and please give them a try. They can help to reduce the CPU load introduced by LOD, but they won't help you with other categories of stutters and are potientially able to introduce new types of stutters you did not suffer from so far.
    Happy simming!

    There is talk about Microsobo including a tool like this in FS2024. In fact, SU15 is rumored to include Dynamic TLOD in the Xbox (but not PC.) It's OK to discuss that. Just don't discuss the mods.

    Auto Fps is my choice. I come from Dynamic LOD and I've found that autofps is the simplest and fastest way to have it working in parallel to msfs. I'm in VR using a 7800x3d and 4090.. With this amazing tool I've been able to set some forgotten Settings to High/ultra and the shadows to 4K. All this with Quest 3 via Virtual desktop (80hz / 40fps ASW). I am so happy with the performance now that I don't longer worry about settings. And believe me.. having a 4090 means nothing to the sim sometimes 😅. Great video like always. What I want to share with your subscribers is that I'm overriding resolution via openxr toolkit to 4800xXXXX up to 5800xXXXX depending the scenery and I get Pimax crystal like results.. (well, 90% of the quality maybe)

      Pleasure. I got up just now here in Australia and am watching your video as I type. I agree with your assessment of the three and dynamicLOD is most customizable but I find for me I can see in the distance the TLOD changing all the time. Maybe it’s my internet here here in OZ but as much as it does all this well that puts me off whereas smoothflight doesn’t do this, it keeps it more smoother I guess. I think it would be more effective if autofps and the like could detect the ratio of object to terrain and adjust the upper on each accordingly@@2020fsers

    • @Buddy308
      @Buddy308 Před 3 měsíci +1

      I'll chime in before the author. I've used this method almost since the day MFS was released in Aug., 2020. In Nvidia CP, i set my 140Hz monitor to a refresh rate of 60Hz and then enable Vsync in the sim at 50%, giving me a constant frame rate of 30. I've essentially never seen a stutter in 3.5 years because, given a highly competent GPU, the frame time of 33.3ms is always long enough for the CPU and GPU to render the next frame. I have never found that frame rates >30 give me any better experience than locked at 30, but they DO lead to STUTTERS.
      The point of my reply is that this method limits me to using Dynamic LOD/Reset. It works very well, but the other two programs do nothing because they chase FPS, which in my setup never changes -- FPS stays rock-solid at 30 everywhere (low over a large metro area or at 20,000 feet over water), even if I have two instrument panels popped out onto auxiliary monitors. The setting you ask about is a marvelous one, but it limits you to only one of the 3 dynamic-setting programs, which is a good thing.

    • @2020fsers
      @2020fsers  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for the comment . This question is really on a case by case basis. I recommend to try everything you can and not listen to any 1 person as you will get many different answers. Personally I don't limit fps but I also use vr mostly . On monitor mode I do use vsync as it smooths out my screen tearing . But I keep it at 100 %monitor refresh rate and it does the trick. I am never really limited by mainthread in vr it's always gpu limited . My preference is the dynamic lod tool as I don't want my system chasing fps. .I know what visuals I wanna see at certain altitudes. And I know what my computer can handle as far as LOD levels. So I would rather have higher f. P. S
      And a standardized LOD level at certain altitudes Then have my computer try to chase an FPS giving me more level of detail, but I never have that great of FPS hope that makes sense.

    With frame generation, I get >70 fps, and usually >90fps all the time but I still get situations where detail just pops into view. I attribute that to my i9-9900K system with DDR4 memory (also RTX4070ti and 3x32” monitors running in NVidia Surround) just not being able to process the data fast enough and get it to the video card. I personally like the dynamic LOD tool. But that's because I also know the capabilities of my system and I have tried different LOD levels at different altitudes. So I know what I personally like for visuals and I know what my PC can handle.
      So instead of having my computer trying to chase an FPS I would rather have a higher f. P. S rate at different altitudes and if it does go lower. I have the small FPS adaptation section that I can use to help increase my frame rate. If it does drop below a certain fps. you ask everyone, you'll find multiple different reasons for why they like the tool that they like. So that's why I really say you need to test all of them and see what works best for you..

      Install or download? If download, usually Chrome is just being overprotective and you can push through any warnings about dangerous downloads. Alternatively, you can use a different browser like Edge. Also, make sure your AV program isn't blocking it.

      Possibly an antivirus software, causing it. Turn off antivirus and try again or any firewall.

    excellent video, it increases the FPS from 40 to 52, but at the same time the GPU temperature shot up, from 70 to 80 degrees, how can I lower the temperature? Thanks

      Any of these shouldn't Increase Temps. Turn the program off and try it again without. If you need more cooling you can set fan curves in the msi afterburner software
