You can usually tell if an employer is toxic from the posting. Common signs are:
1. The posting sounds unprofessional. Calling workers "ninjas", "rockstars", etc. is cringe and makes the company sound childish.
2. The classic entry level job that requires 5+ years of experience.
3. Compensation is very low compared to responsibilities.
4. Toxic lingo like:
-Fast-paced: This place is stressful.
-Detail-oriented: You make one minor mistake we will treat it ike you committed a crime against humanity. Double red flags if this and fast-paced are mentioned together.
-Self-starter: You should know everything right off the bat.
-We are like a family: Gaslighting is common here.
-Work hard, play harder: We will run you into the ground
Kind of, but id be careful as if HR wrote that rather than the hiring manager you could be writing a company off incorrectly

Something I have noticed in a few jobs is bad directors/general managers. If the company works better when they are away than it does when they are there, then run away! Nothing worse than working for a director that thinks they are God.

We have a bad owner at my now former job (I quit last week) We had a great general manager and assistant GM, both started last year and couple of months before I started there. Both quit at the same time back in June. Our new GM and AGM are garbage. We are treated like crap. Glad I left. I just passed my one year anniversary last month. Now I’m hunting for a new job.
People don’t leave bad jobs, they leave bad management. I’m in this position now, on the hunt for a new job because my boss & manager suck.

One company I worked at a lot of the managers, and even people who were not managers knew each other before joining. They had double standards about expectations for those within their friend circle and other employees. It made the work environment hostile and of course, no progression or pay rises for normal employees. It is hard to know this by research but I imagine other companies do similar things when they hire their friends as a big proportion of leadership or workforce
It can be a good or bad thing. Think family ran businesses. I considered it as an option but like you say tricky to research if theyre all friends beforehand. Good point though.
They say for getting some jobs it's about who you know. 😅

@rockstarofredondo typically I'd agree but there are many exemptions.
Watch out for companies that are all about toxic positivity. They never talk about the challenges or difficulties it's all sunshine and rainbows. If you get glared at for asking difficult questions, just run. That's a company that has a Soviet style regime. Avoid.

That might be my company. No matter what, you are supposed to be joyful. I am hoping to hang in, but it’s a red flag.
Micromanaging is another bad signal. Particularly if every move you make is "recordered" or monitored on IT software which generates a report, to the extent that your toilet breaks are counted in minutes and seconds, it's a priblem

Recently walked from a job I had started 3 months earlier... it wasn't because of the money as I was paid under market value, I needed the job so had to take it.
The week after I started one of the others in my team left, followed 3 weeks later by the 2nd - and for 2 months I was on my own as not one potential replacement took the job. In the end the owner wanted me to train someone - not going to happen, been there done that. The stress was unbelievable.
Untidy and messy set up with absolutely no structure. I found out after starting that the company had turned over 14 staff in 2 years.
I also found it had a fairly racist bent. I was also sort of blamed for the reduction in turnover - not the fact that the sales department was useless and continually getting it wrong due to no experience in the trade.
Its caused me so much problems since leaving but, my sanity has returned.
Worse company I have worked at in 43 years.
A high Staff turnover is the first red flag. But if was just 3 months in 43 years it sounds like it could have been worse. More a warning shot rather than a killer blow. You needed the job so did what you had to do which makes sense. Out of interest what did you know or was told about the company before you started? In short, what picture was painted for you?
@@RevorecRecruitmentSolutions The company was a very big sign making franchise and my first interview was with the franchise head office that runs the entire UK operation. The USA side of the business had a good rep but virtually nothing is available on the UK side. That first interview went well but when visiting the business itself for an interview with the actual franchise owner my interview was conducted by the 2 guys that left, it seemed the owner had another business to run in parallel, which I didn't know at the time. I should of realised when I was told I was the only one that appeared for the interview and none of the other 4 candidates did that something was off. But being desperate to get back to work I didn't see that as a bell ringer as it was after all the year of COVID. Kit wise the place had the best even though it was layed out appuallingly. Die to UC / DWP remit of having to accept any job offered and the fact that the money even though not quite industry standard I accepted.
First week in was fine as it was more orientation, second week rang alarm bells when the owner asked due to my knowledge what the best way was to take it all forward.
3rd week in and the pressure started due to second guy working his notice falling ill with flu, which I caught but didn't have a choice but go in. By the fourth week I realised exactly how unorganized the owner was and how they thought they knew what to do when I was continually taken off one job to do another, and they way requested it was not polite. When you get asked to do something that usually takes a few hours and no more than an hour later your asked if it was finished you know the stress will not abait. Gave them a months notice at that point, informing the UC which I was still attached to and had given countless messages to concerning the place that I had no choice, it was that toxic I could feel my inner hulk wanting to rage, first time in 43 years in the trade.
@@RevorecRecruitmentSolutions The picture painted originally by all that the franchise was great to work for... Maybe in the USA it was which is it's corporate home. But most here are owned by African based money.
The other business the owner had was a carers one.. not one employee in that company was British, all where sponsored imports.
The franchise head office man painted a real nice picture of a descent franchise owner which turned out wrong...
Now I'm on a sanction due to leaving the job and will probably be made homeless in a couple of months, but at least I have my sanity and health.. I'd lost over 4 stone in that 3 months...

This is why you need to start with a maximum of 3 months contract. if the company is shit, it's simple. When the contract ends, goodbye.

Is it a red flag when 90% of the job reviews listed online for my company are negative?
My job is 12 hours for 4 days then I have 4 days off. $23.20 to start after 90 days goes up to $26.00/hr. Very labor intensive though.
It's often only once you get there that you notice the reality. If there are cliques and a culture of some are in the clique and others are not, its bad.
Big red flag that I got caught up in is that I was CONSTANTLY reminded that the company paid the best in town and our workload was the lowest in town, when in reality those things couldn't have been farther from the truth.

When supervisor tells you people left before because of scapegoating once you already employed and having supervision 😅 I'm in this crap situation currently. And soo many people now left, my office space full of new people.
I went for a interview yesterday at a joinery company, would these be red flags the receptionist didn't know i was there for a interview, the manager who was doing the interview was slightly late, he had only been in the job 5 weeks, and he wasn't a joiner, the company was recrecruiting alot of new joiners and they've offered me a job but it's slightly different from what is advertised and lower pay they said it because I've just left college and i have less experience are any of them red flags
Subtle red flags rather than big red flags. If you think the training seems good and they seem reasonably good people id be inclined to give it a go but if youve got concerns and your gut feeling tells you somethings not right, then give it a miss
I worked at FedEx in the wear house making 15.00 and overtime while I found out that others were making 17.50… after going to the management then I was bullied so bad I Quit , HR made it worse
HR always makes it worse. Better to just look for a better-paying job and then bounce.

I just spent an entire summer using my own equipment at a job site despite repeated attempts to tell the boss that the site needed some tools. I was ignored for months and then accused of having “a pattern of lack of communication” which actually described the boss and his office employees more than the person that actually tried sending the message only to have it never received.
Not too long ago i found a posting for a car parts shop. Expected 52 hours a week, one single rotating day off, work on sundays and holidays for minimum wage.
Big red flag.
About 2 months ago, the national employment agency tried to push me into going to a job of their choice at a touristic villa and they expected me to be a minimarket operator(doing EVERYTHING in the shop, from cashier to shelf filling and cleaning), hotel receptionist and luggage carrier and gardener all at the same time for minimum wage.
I told them to shove that offer up their butts and walked away.
They lie they lie they lie no matter what the CEO always comes out on top

Went for a job interview a few months ago. No one was at the office at appointed time. They called, apologized, and asked me to come back the next day. The next day the owner didn't even sit down to interview or offer me a seat. Just asked if I could start the next day as it was a new business venture. First day on the job, the owner left me on my own after two hours, saying "Ok I've got to go. Will you be okay by yourself?" I had to choice but to stay. It was a daycare with kids there! I was out of there a month later.
I’ve seen these signs but had to take toxic jobs anyway because I desperately needed the money. I don’t have parents with a house I can go post up in while I try to see if a company is a good fit. I’ve worked in many toxic jobs, and I’m yet to find a job that I feel comfortable in within my industry. What advice do you have for people like me?
Keep at it dude
Practice stoicism and ignore people as much as possible and just go into work for work only. Try not to be very social. Remain cordial but aloof.
Best advice i can give and actually live by: never leave a job until another is lined up (within reason). You may hate it for a while, but better to still have that income until you find the right fit. And do some research BEFORE you apply to a position - dig up that dirt. Good luck!

Health insurance brokers too. Lots of scam calls, chasing after people with often faked leads.
My last job you would get wrong for talking the owner would say i pay your wages! He even said he was sending a e mail to all his staff to say they couldn't talk. You would get wrong for discussing your job with your colleagues! Yep he could not keep staff. Also on Glassdoor he got his secretary to write good reviews and pretend she was an ex employee, he had some bad reviews on there he answered one and said he was going to take them to court! Lol this person didn't leave a name.

Don’t work for Vitaquest in Jersey they fire there employees after being with the company for to many years. The manager’s and supervisors are lazy and the VP allows them to do whatever they want. HR sucks if you have a problem with management they will fire you.
I'm a TEFL teacher and had two really bad jobs back to back, they are by far the worst jobs I've ever had. I'm making less money today in this current job than I made over 5 years ago. They have me working/teaching all day everyday from Monday to Friday, 8am to 2pm, leaving me only 1 hour a day to do admin work like lesson planning and creating lesson materials. I'm making $700/month and it's costing me almost $500 just in food, and they have me living in a former kindergarten where I'm sleeping on the floor. Every other TEFL job I've had helped me organize a place to stay as soon as I got there, and also helped me with my VISA. They're expecting me to find my own place here, but I don't know Yangon and can't speak Burmese. Also I don't think I'll be able to afford to live here even, cause I'm paying a lot for food and transport right now!!
RED FLAG:..group interviews..if they interview a group of candidates together competing against each other...RUNNNNNNNN.. especially if you didn't see it coming..
Not necessarily. I know what you mean but a lot of retail jobs with good companies or law firm jobs often use this. Generally a warning sign but i didnt include as not always
@@RevorecRecruitmentSolutions ..as a HR professional I would have to disagree..that type of interview should only be given when there are several open positions at 1 time and each Candidate given the 1 on 1 time they deserve...it's demoralizing, and unprofessional..and it's a Hugh privacy flag..if a company will put someone through this during the hiring process... imagine how it would be to work for them...hard pass...
I agree with you in principal. I dont think its the best way to interview. But your point was that group interviews are a sign its a bad company to work for when in my experience that isnt always the case. Just my opinion from experience
@@RevorecRecruitmentSolutions I've worked in several well-managed corporate law firms in the USA. I haven't experienced any of them doing group interviews, even for summer clerks. Maybe this is a practice more common in the UK?

My first job when I was 16 tried to get away without paying holiday pay. I was there 3 years and they kept saying as your casual staff you don't get it. Despite me signing a contract. Was till I left after 4 years I spoke up about it and they gave me it in my last pay packet.
The part about being paid above market rate is a interesting one as not many peopke would question it due to get more than nmw. But as you said what's the catch..... as alot of company's tend to not pay more than they have to.
I remember you brought up customer reviews in a previous video. I tend to look at those before applying if I unsure so was nice to hear you cover it again.
In regards to looking round, equipment atc I never would have thought of that off my own back as all Interviews I had they done it anyway.
They do say the job is more enjoyable because of who you work with. 😋 Case is though if for whatever reason someone doesn't like you and your not aware that can make things arkward.

"Bag of money" - ding ding ding! My current job pays generously. It's also one dumpster fire after the other, great people quitting on the spot, problems swept haphazardly under the rug. I will need some extreme therapy once I finally get to leave.
