      It's the reaction of the audience in the studio. Victoria Coren Mitchell describes the process quite well in the podcast. Its not the offensive canned bollocks.

      You literally see the audience throughout the episodes. It would be weird as hell if you didn't hear the laughing.

      Have you seen the outtakes from the COVID series with no audience or the QI eps filmed in the same conditons? It’s so awkward without the audience reaction
