Don't forget the compressor shaft seal leaks when AC isn't used for long periods people just get there car re gased and think that's it FIXED. AC must be used year round to prevent this from occuring but people fork out ex amount of money to regas when there's a slow leak in the system
Absolutely! the AC system as any other in the vehicle requires a good hand and a careful eye. Regular inspection and ALL YEAR use are highly recommended. And the all-season use is not only for safety, but it is also for the lubricant to be circulated around the system nooks and seals.
Guess this really depends upon the comp design... my car has a 17 year Delphi CVC and i'm sure it's been left completely unused for months and months in the past, even ran with very low charges a few times. So the shaft seal definitely took a beating lubrication-wise. Only recently i've begun using it regularly even in the colder months, and during the last service, 6 oz of ref (out of 18 oz, the nominal charge) were found missing two years after the previous AC service, however keep in mind that the system also had one leaky o-ring behind the expansion valve (this one likely due to unuse), a leaky HPRV o-ring (this one likely due to the exhaust plumbing being really close to the compressor's head) and marginal LP and HP side valve cores (these ones definitely due to normal wear and tear). I really think that what really hurts the shaft seal is overheating rather than prolonged lack of usage. Fixed displacement comps in TXV systems do get really hot when they're run with a low charge, due to increased friction (low oil circulation rate), increased superheat and increased compression ratios due to the reduced suction pressures. My CVC works only in low displacement when the charge gets low enough, and that is what likely prevented any refrigerant flow-related overheating... a pulley bearing failure or a slipping clutch is another reason for an overheated shaft seal, but both of them are still fine on my car...

I have a strange failure on the airco. I got it diagnosed at two shops (both wrong). Total qouted repairs of + 1000 euro. In both time simple logic can tell you that that cannot be it.
What happens? Start the car. Switch on the airco. Temp of the evaporated drops like crazy (to ~5°C in a matter of 15 seconds). Stone cold air is coming from the vents. What happens next? Heat echange temp start to slowly rise in a matter of minutes until the evaporator temperature is ambient temperature (I can read it from the diagnostic computer). It does not recover from this unless I switch the airco off for a couple of minutes. Switch it back on....same story. Stone cold very fast, slowely gets warmer.
Diagnose I got from the BMW dealer (leaking condenser). Diagnose from the other shop: faulty clutch. Both are confirmed false. My idea at the moment....faulty displacement control of the compressor.

Hello, I have an 2004 bmw x5 the compressor don't raise pressure before 10 minutes later is ok. I think the compressor stuks for a while. I suppose to add 2 once of ICE 32 with a yellowjack pump. Is better to recovery the 2 once of PAG oil from The system or is invariant? Thank you.

Hi Marc. The part number is 8900639. You should be able to get it if you go to your local Automotive wholesaler. But please be aware that it is not a tool from Nissan. It is a tool from Nissens. Nissens is a climate and engine cooling manufacturer. ;)

What are the symptoms of either to much pag oil or not enough? I have a car that blows colds but. But on very hot days (87 or above id say) it takes way to long to get cold on idle. But once i get up to highway speeds, its cold as ice and once i stop to idle again its fine. Its just the initial start. On days where its less that 87, its cold from the get go. Now ive had it evacuated and recharged before but I am not sure what all they did. I like to try and figure things out myself before spending lots of money if not needed. Could not have enough pag oil in the system be causing my issues on very hot days? Oh and the fan is working just fine. If spray a fine mist of water on the condenser it instantly start cooling down and blowing cold. Its just frustrating because on the days i really need it to be cold, its not on startup. Id say the vent temp is at about 65-70 after about 5 min of idling on startup on a hot day. But once i get going it will eventually get to 42 and stay there even if i idle again. I want to pull my hair out!! lol

If you have a set of service gauges there's a sight glass built into the body, just bleed the refrigerant from the high side into the sight glass and view . Once finished suck the refrigerant into the low side. No need for this tool.
Absolutely, most of the market manifold gauge sets should have the inspection glass, but please notice its diameter compared to the tool's size I use. You can spot much more and in a much more convenient way, yet still being able to couple it with the manifold gauges to have the pressure readings at glance.
I would avoid doing anything that might introduce outside air/moisture into the system. Otherwise an inspection might do more harm than good.

When I get my ar regassed at my garage they use the refrigerant they sucked out the car what if i get the refrigerant from an old busted car added to my system
Josh, if the garage applies the appropriate procedures, the refrigerant can easily be recovered after getting evacuated from the system. Majority of AC units can clean and filter the refrigerant and as long as the gas type is legal for use and matches your vehicle system you should not worry!

I had 2 older Ford vehicles. Both had green color in the oil. Your saying they both had dye added? Maybe Ford used green oil.
Dye has been added at some point. The oil is either yellow-ish or transparent. They would never use an oil that's green because it would interfere with said tests.

@@Fury_BlackWolf both systems worked fine though. I still own the 2001 mercury grand marquis. Noticed it was greenish when I made a repair 2 weeks ago. I myself would never add dye or stop leak products to a refrigeration system.

At least before getting your first car, you can learn how important it is to get your AC system serviced on a regular basis!
It's illegal in many countries to even touch the ac unit if you're not certified.
And simple and costeffective? I'm pretty sure most people won't have ac evacuation equipment just standing in their garage.
@FURY__. You only need the AC service station to purge the tool and the hoses. It is necessary to remove the atmospheric air before playing with the AC circuit. But a regular vacuum pump will do the job too. I of course only recommend that this procedure is done by a trained professional. @@RobinundertheHood That is true and good informative video otherwise. But sadly a lot of untrained people will probably end up trying this method and in worst case scenario hurt themselves. I am all for the idea to be my own mechanic and all but some of the things are best to be handled by professionals. Not sure how it is in most parts of the world but in EU it's illegal to even hook up a single hose to pressurised refrigeration system without a certificate. Sad but true. (I have worked with transport refrigeration for 12 years)
