@JerryCorley A little off topi, but the other day you did a great video on how to make a joke from news headlines (the example you used was a story about a car that crashed into Biden's Presidential motorcade). I enjoyed the video, and wanted to watch again, but I can't find it. Where can I see this video again? Thanks!
I don’t know what happened. It deleted from my channel. I’ll re-upload the video later today and link you.
thanks @@JerryCorley ! I'll just also say... , thanks for all the great content!
You're the Doctor that keeps on giving. Thanks Jerry. I'm in year 4 of Standup at 58 years of age, and your advice has helped bigtime.
I’m just starting at 42. 58 encourages me so much! It’s never too late or too early to be great 😎 keep going!
Comedy gold: 'Stop playing the joke, play the emotion' @ 7:23
Play the emotion! That's great advice Doc, juts what I needed. Thanks from Germany.
I love this, dad
Thanks Lina
:o you blew my mind at the end there. i go do open mics desperately trying to remember every word of my set but the emotion! never even crossed my mind to remember that going into it woof
That was a game changer for me. I learned it when an acting teacher asked me to do 5 mins. Then told me “Jerry thinks his jokes are so clever he doesn’t need to perform them.” Then she told me to do the homework of playing my authentic emotion through each joke. And what a difference.
I love your videos. Thank you for giving back to the community.
I have had you as my coach and follow your joke writing rules and always get something from you. This was right on and just what I needed.
Hey Jess! @JessCarpenter Great to hear from you! Thanks for sharing. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
Your videos are great, thanks! 🙏🏾👍🏾
The last piece of advice here . Practice the emotion. That’s key right there. That literally just flipped a light bulb on my head. As comics we do our routines so much that we forget to actually play the emotion which should be a big part of our set.
Yes yes yes! Finally! I needed this! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome. So glad you find it helpful. 🎉✨💥
"stop playing the joke, play the emotion"
Always good stuff. Thanks man.
Thank you @mikerantz.
Great advice, once again.
Great work
such useful advice
I enjoy seeing your comments @michaelsix9684. Thanx!
PROFOUND!
At a young 47 im gonna take the plunge into comedy. I never knew how to get started but kill tony is 30 miles from me and i feel thats my sign!
I have a joke for you. I never knew stone cold was a stand up comedian
You're in the right place, you definitely need to learn what a joke is and how to write one. It will come in time.
@@tke71709 I know what a joke is I was just making fun of
Haha! That’s the oldest joke on this channel. I gotta find this Stone Cold character. He’s stealing my look.👀
I would've at least said something like, "Room Temperature Steve Austin."

@jerryCorley is it a bad idea to do controversial/ dark humor jokes starting out?
For me, i find humor in tragedy. I like to play on some of the rougher portions of my upbringing to make jokes because i feel like thats what makes me me.. but at the same time, im worried that dark nature of those topics could be off putting for a new comic to perform.
They are challenging to start out with because bookers are looking to see if you know what you’re doing up there. If the dark jokes are also well written, then do YOU! You’re in a great place to know what your voice is. Now just be sure the jokes are also good.
@@JerryCorley I appreciate you for taking the time to look at the question and reply. I have watch quite a few "how to," comedy things on CZcams, and your content, by far, means the most to me. Are you willing to look at a joke or two? ... or do you have a current class in which one could enroll?
Makes sense. Getting in to a character distance oneself from self consciousness.
Yeah, I know it sounds pretentious.
this is a real problem to work on
Not kidding: the Rosanne Barr joke sounded better when you tried to destroy it
Ha! I kinda thought so too!
