I am an American citizen who lives in Juarez Mexico & walking or driving across the border either way you don't need a passport. The only thing that you need to enter Mexico is 50 cents or 10 pesos
I am as white as you can get & not once have I had a single problem other than getting searched a couple of times coming into the United States which is totally understandable. I cross back & forth 3X a month for over a year now.

I have problem enough getting my ID settled in the USA and I was born here. I let my DL expire during the COVID closures and now I need my Birth Certificate in order to get my ID back. But I need an ID in order to get a copy of my Birth Certificate as I never needed a copy of it before. Catch-22! So I can't get a bank account or rent a car or even rent a motel room. I am living that NOW in my home country because of this bureaucratic BS. So needless to say I can't get a Passport either. DOn't know what I can do other than just do it the illegal way.

@@RichardHarlos thank you, but I already checked that site. I have called the office and they told me I need to either go into the office of the county I was born (Long Trip) or I need to sign a statement attesting to my ID, but it must be witnessed by a notary and notaries require an ID in order to notarize something! That is the Catch-22, the notary requirement. I will just have to go into the county records office in person. About 800 miles round trip.

At the end of the day you need a passport. Your US issued ID and Birth Certificate mean nothing here in Mexico. I've heard of people being allowed to cross back into the USA without a passport as long as they can prove they are American
