    Works better than I expected, but at the same time, the only holes it can fix are small holes that are already fairly easy to fix. I think this is just marketed towards people who hate or are bad at drywall repairs. Id rather spend an extra 60 seconds and save a few dollars, plus the space in my toolbox, but thats just me. GREAT channel btw! You guys have quickly become my new favorite channel!

    I am no contractor by any means but do all of my own work on my home. I have been using the metal wall plates since I purchased my first home and I feel that the problem with the is that the metal likes to warp and twist and get cold. In my experience the metal makes the spackle take longer to dry. Also the metal plate goes on the wall not in it like the Ryobi. I feel that the Ryobi is more structural and set in to the wall so you don't have to feather out your spackle and sanding.

  • @AntonioClaudioMichael

    I always use drywal claws and measure and cut a patch out of a large sheet of drywall I have so if it's a 8 inch hole I cut a 8 inch piece of sheet rock measure it to make sure it's the right size put the drywall claws slide it into the hole and spackle

    It's easy enough to use drywall scrap to cut out a piece that will fit and make a "butterfly" patch. It's where you leave a border of the backing exposed, butter it up with some durabond and stick it on.

  • @privateinformation9384

    Hi Vince, can you do a follow up? Let’s say someone tries to put a nail (unknowingly) in that to hang a picture. Would the patch allow for it or would it just make a 4” hole in your wall?

    I really like the Ryobi patch. Looks a lot easier then making a drywall patch. Seems pretty fast and easy. I would love to see a follow up video where you smash the Ryobi patch with a hammer to see what happens. How does the patch hold up? I have a door knob that keeps smacking my wall and this might be a good option for patching the area. Better then the plywood patch.

    Ryobi patch looks like it leaves a nice pocket for the mud, but also could have paper from the drywall sticking out which is an issue if you don’t take care of it. Square patches eliminate that problem but create a bump in the wall. Both have their pros and cons

  • @hobbytowncrew8934
    @hobbytowncrew8934 Před 3 lety

    I think Ryobi is a great tool, but you do have a point about the repair. I think I would use it due to the fact the mess always bubble on me and I end up cutting more drywall to the studs on both sides of the hole, insert a 2x4 and patch over all. I'm not a profession drywall repairman but I think the kit would be a big help for a guy like me, as long as they keep making the kits.

    I am a general contractor and a 20 year plus Drywall veteran. I would never use something like this but I can see how a DIYer can use it. In my opinion the best fix is a simple piece of backing in piece of scrap drywall. You can cut the existing damaged wall with the holesaw of whatever size works and use the same holesaw to cut a new piece to patch it with.

  • @nicholassmith5079

    Blow out patches for me. Never tried any of the patch kit. They always seamed gimmicky to me like the spackle that goes on pink and is white when dry. Would be kind of useful maybe if they were the same size as a 6" recessed light holes. (6 1/4" I think)

      It's called different in different names what you do is you cut about a half inch around a paper leaving just the paper you take out the chalk leave the paper and you use that as like the tape to put your mind down you put it your put your patch in and you might over that and no you don't use no more than which would use on Weber mud the only difference is stiffens it up so you don't have to put any backing onto it and will hold it in

    What comes in the other Ryobi kit ? and it's competition? Seems like a waste to leave a hole saw in the wall. Why couldn't you cut the hole out pull out the saw and damaged area, then use the saw to cut a patch , then put in the patch with the sticky part. Mud sand paint like normal? Add a decorative block in case knob hits the wall again😍😀 Thanks Vince

  • @mikemetz82

    Looks like you'd have less to float using the Ryobi patch. Just used the metal Wall board patches and had to float at least a foot around them to get em to disappear. Ryobi wins for lesser skilled homeowners who want the best result.
