When people sound that loud when walking, they are "heel walkers" They bang the back of their heel's down first when walking and it's actually something they can change as it is a bad habit. The sound they make when walking is exactly how you describe it. Sound like huge heavy people walking when it in reality can be a small skinny person. It is not normal living sounds it is disturbance that can be avoided.
