They got free room and board for the weekend 😏. If they got locked up during the week, hubby just left them. Per Diem is for food and lodging. Travel pay and mileage are transportation and are paid out separately. They usually do not pay travel or transportation to crafts and trades. The per diem rates for each city or area you are working are published in the federal travel regulations. Most areas of the country the per diem rates exceed $150.00 per day and travel/transportation is paid separately. Companies have measures in place to ensure that THEY get most of YOUR per diem on government contracts.

No joke that's going to be me... Even as an aerospace engineer the 9.4 mile drive from my house to the work building is going to cost me about $8/day just in fuel (not counting tires, which is a whole other issue). My poor car does not make great fuel economy, so I'm trying to buy a motorcycle this week otherwise I'm pedaling to work...
The only good news is I might get into a little better shape from the 19 miles of pedaling every day, but the downside is going to be chance of getting flattened to a pancake beside the highway, or arrive every day covered in sweat (and I have to look professional wearing a dress shirt and look presentable). We also don't have showers there, so this is going to be interesting... Well I'm going to do some spins on my bike tonight just so I'm not totally unprepared for next week! $40/week on fuel is just ridiculous for that short trip, thanks for force closing America's petroleum and pipelines Joe!

@@Excalibur2 it's because I drive a fire spitting Wankel rotary powered car (you also need to redline them every time you drive them to maintain them), and part of my commute is stopping at traffic lights. They are insanely fun and fast cars for the track or road, and where they lack miles per gallon they more than make up with Smiles Per Gallon!
However yes, they cost quite a bit to feed and have fun, but honestly they are the cheapest stress relief and therapy one can ever ask for, you simply cannot stay mad or sad while driving a rotary, you'll be either terrified or having too much fun screaming all you're problems away! I'm only 26, but I have permanent stretch marks from smiling so much, and it's really one of the very few things that brings me joy, it runs every corner into an event that makes your eyes wide, your breath focused, your feet pulse slightly keeping it on the brink of physics and the edge of danger, your neck muscles sharp keeping your head upright, and your ears and heart happy as you hear it brap over 9,000 rpm to slam gears after the turn spitting flames and pops/bangs/booms like a moving warzone. It's just amazing fun car, so it is truly worth it.
It just costs a little to feed right now, thankfully it's a short commute, and with the way I drive it's a VERY short commute... I'm hoping a fun sport bike can get close enough to that during the high prices but with a little better economy.

Well it’s not exactly a straight forward answer. But we have more than enough crude (difficult to refine tho) for Canada, and Sell it discounted to Am erica, then buy it back at a premium but we pay the shipping with the price of cheap crude. 38% of our gas price is tax but that covers the free health care and other social benefit. Honestly it isn’t that bad paying a bit more for gas but having health care and parental leave. We could have cheaper gas, but we’d just pay those taxes somewhere else.

After that job was over I found out my employer had put in the bid extra for driving and or hotel and food.. we didn't see a penny of it. I was gone within a week of learning that. What else was he screwing us on? Oh yeah i later found out he was paying for inside information and that's how he managed to just barely under bid everyone. What a great guy.
