Interesting. I wonder what the econometrics are like for these multi-use tools-obviously fewer tool changes will reduce cycle time, but it would be interesting to see how much that balances out tool cost (and the fact that you would need to replace the whole tool if one of the cutting surfaces is damaged).
Of course, it depends on the flow material being processed, but if you use it for the purpose, as you say, cycle time can be significantly reduced!
From what i can see there is only one cutting surface, which is the tungsten nib welded onto the end. The rest of the “drill bit looking shape” is just fluting to encourage chip removal. The cutting passes were clever movement programming taking advantage of the small diameter. Its a high stiffness low diameter tungsten cutter that can plunge cut some amount which is kinda cool.

I've seen insert holders capable of various processing, but this is the first time I've seen a single tool like this.

Love the cutaway! If you sync rpm to frame rate you can get a still illusion of the part so it’s even easier to see.

Подходит для деталей определенного колличества и качества (если отломается или затупится режущая кромка, то так и так придется искать новую "эту штуку", или менять на классический набор - сверло, расточной резец, проходной). А вообще в случае когда сделать надо, а места в револьверной головке мало, то как последний вариант - подойдет.

Is this tool actually good? To me it seems the main cutting edge is gonna be worn out before you can use it as a drill. Is its main purpose to save one tool spot by not having to carry a drill in the magazine?
The biggest advantage of this tool is that it can be used for drilling, internal diameter processing, and external diameter processing.
There is no need to change tools, and if you use an automatic lathe, you can consolidate tools and set different tools.

Very interesting tool, must not be cheap if it's made of a single piece of tungsten carbide though. I guess at least you can get it re-sharpened
for that small of a diameter its probably going to be 60/70 euros
lol Hundreds of millions of endmills and drills are made from solid carbide every year and for the work they do they are dirt cheap.
Can't sharpen these. They have applications, but not as useful as it seems.
Does this tool have a coolant hole? It would really help for chip evacuation.
Coolant is discharged from the four coolant holes.

Она должна была остаться целой, после остановки станка, а не половинкой. Я разочаровался если честно, думал, до чего технологии монтажа дошли!?
Это обрабатывается с использованием половины работы с самого начала.
Это потому, что вы не можете увидеть обработку, если это не половина заготовки.
Вы физику учили? Тут нет монтажа, деталь изначально пополам отфрезерована, что бы было вилно оьработку внутри для демонстрации работы. Даде по звуку понятно, что обработка прерывистая ибо деталь не цельная
