  • This is a how to video about connecting an older Sonos Playbar (2017) to a new OLED LGC8 Smart TV (12/2018), to use the magic remote on both. The older Sonos Playbar does not have an HDMI output, only an optical cord, which connects to your smart TV.

    Thanks - well explained - worked perfectly with LGB8 + 2017 Sonos Playbar. Only extra step I had to do was on the tv change General > Location > Broadcast Country to Indonesia (from Australia). Without doing this I didn't get the option of choosing a Soundbar model to configure.

    That is correct. I can use the TV control, to listen to Spotify when the TV is off and control the volume to my liking.

    Using this, can you also control the volume of the playbar with the remote when the tv is off? For the cases when listening to music and not watching tv.

    I cannot comment on how it works with the new model TV, as I have no experience with it. Hopefully, someone can reply if it does, or does not work for them.

    i don't have any sonos speakers yet. What i'd like to know would it be possible to hook a playbar up to a tv (for watching tv obviously) and also group it with other sonos speakers when i feel like listening to music? Is there a quick way to do that or does it take quite some time to switch between those two scenarios?

    • @surgpsych
      @surgpsych  Před 4 lety

      Short answer: yes. That is what Sonos does best. It is all easily controlled through the Sonos app. I’ve hosted parties where there are the same stations in indoor rooms and a different playlist or station out on the back patio. I’ve listened to football games that were on the living room TV, while grilling on the back porch. The scenarios are up to you. I think Sonos is the best purchase I have made for my home entertainment ever!

    Hello. After you paired OLED to the speaker, tell me when you turn on the tv - the speakers are turning on too automaticly ? When you tyrn off the tv your soundbar is off too?

    • @surgpsych
      @surgpsych  Před 5 lety +2

      Sort of? The speakers are always “on”. But yes, when you turn the TV on, then the sound goes through the speakers and when you turn the TV off, there is no sound. But the speakers remain on, in case you still want to listen to a music station from your Sonos app.

    No longer works with my C9 and latest webOS as of this post. Phillips option doesn’t give a choice of remote “types”. There is a Sonos manufacturer option now but that doesn’t seem to allow magic remote control :/

    • @gabs0r
      @gabs0r Před 4 lety

      Same here.... So they added the Sonos manufacturer option but it does nothing. Great testing before releasing ;)

    I’m not 100% on this, but would love to know what people think if they try it. Does seem to be a bug if you use game mode. 1. Switch to vivid mode on any input. 2. Make sure tru motion is set to user and then set to 0 and come out of settings. 3. Head back into settings and then turn on game mode. 4 test, seems like something is saving behind the scenes as my lag has gone. Tested on xbox one x and ps4 with games, you tube and netflix and was getting a whole second delay and now it’s gone for the moment.

    awesome that worked. But is there a way to have the volume work on apple tv remote too?

    • @surgpsych
      @surgpsych  Před 5 lety

      Yes. Just pair your apple remote to the TV. Should work the same. Mine does. It’s been a while so I don’t remember the steps, but there is a place on your Apple TV settings that will let you add and pair the LG remote to Apple TV. Then if you switch back to the apple remote, you have to click the menu button a couple of times on the apple remote for it to re-in gauge the remote. Hope that helped.

      Kenneth Roda just trying to set it up with my B9 - webOS 4.0 seems to be a problem because at the step of selecting the remote type you can no longer select it’s type directly

    • @Karinsky77
      @Karinsky77 Před 4 lety

      @@cekuah Did you find a way with your B9? I've tried a lot with my LG B9 (2019) and my older Sonos Soundbar, but no matter what I can't get the magic remote to turn volume up/down on my Sonos soundbar

  • @serviourgiles5083
    @serviourgiles5083 Před 5 lety

    To get this to work I had to select Remote Type 1 then hit Next at the top right of the TV screen. Once I was in that screen, I went back to the app and it was able to recognize the button presses.

    Update: tried this tonight on my LG E8 and it did not work. This dude is trolling

    • @surgpsych
      @surgpsych  Před 5 lety +4

      I am no professional and I have no reason to “troll”. I am just someone who read the Sonos community pages and decided to post a video about the recommendation, after it worked for me, to make it easier on everyone else. I found the process frustrating myself and you would think Sonos would make this process more clear. If it is not working for you, I recommend you go read the Sonos community pages yourself, then post your own video for other people to appreciate the information specific to your TV or situation. Good Luck!
