    Small update, there seem to be 2 versions of this remote in the EU and one of them doesn't work. You can detect the MAC address in the WiFi settings but then it won't respond to any commands. This is currently being investigated to see if the commands that version sends can also be added to WLED. Easiest identifier is that the wrong version has "WIZ" on the front of the remote embossed in the plastic on the lower part. So far these have only been spot in the EU!

      @@stevenscop just a cheap 5000mAH portable battery bank, nothing special. I have tested this setup with 2 metres @ 60/m and it works fine too. If you want to do COB LEDs they are 12v or 24v though, so I don't think you'd be able to do it the way I have, you have to stick to 5v strips to be able to power from a portable bank.

    This is an amazing update! I’ve been wanting and waiting for an RF wireless remote interface that doesn’t involve a phone for WLED. It’s cool that the Dig2go has IR remote capability built in but that wouldn’t be foolproof enough for friends and family.

    Hello I have the DigQuad with Quinled ESP32 Ethernet version.
    When I try the latest Ethernet firmware "WLED_0.14.0-b4_ESP32_Ethernet.bin" then the Remote Control in Config > Wi-Fi Setup is missing and it is replaced by the Ethernet board settings.
    When I try the latest normal firmware "WLED_0.14.0-b4_ESP32.bin" then the Remote Control settings is there and I can add my Wiz remote and it works fine.
    Is it expected behavior that the Ethernet version of the firmware doesn't support Wiz Remote Control while the normal version supports it?

    Great video, thanks for this.
    I have a question as to whether this remote can switch between different dig2go/esp32 boards, or can it only support multiple boards in sync.
    (for example, I have a use case with one strip on a staircase at the back of my theater, while I have another strip as a backlight on my screen, so as an example, if I wanted to turn off the screen backlight LED while still keeping the staircase LED lit do I need to separate remotes)
    I would love a simple solution without a bunch of remotes dedicated to the different strips, as I am not the only one using the room and I'd like to make it easy for the family.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah that's asking a bit too much from a simple remote. You can control a single ESP based controller or multiple but they will always receive the same data, so if you send off, both will go off.
      Sounds like you need something more Home Assistant based and then define buttons and such to do exactly what you'd like to happen. :)

      @@IntermitTechThe Dig2Go is 15W right? Wouldn’t a 512 matrix consume ~150W max? I don’t get how it’s that bright at only 10% wattage, unless you really don’t need that much.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That's because the 60mA per figure is an internet myth at this point, LEDs use much less, that's why I created the real world power sheet.
      Second, those numbers would be for R+B+G at 100% output. Even just displaying 1 color would be 1/3rd of that. And realistically you'll use even less power since you are creating shades of colors, etc.
      So with that said, the dig2go will still be a limiting factor, but not as much as you'd think initially!
