    Simon's best life altering line to me: "you can find hundreds of books on self help. But there is no book which teaches how to help others".. This literally overturned me as a leader and helped me to skyrocket my team's productivity. Kudos to simon for enlightening me.

      I don't think I've made it to that part yet, but I have found the more I figure my own shit out - the better it helps me be empathetic and help other people out.
      Help others by helping yourself, and you will find much more meaning and purpose in helping others, since you see or remember their problems in your past.

    I love what Simon says. While constantly setting the bar higher and higher under pressure and high pace, we tend to forget that human capacities and energies are not infinite. It becomes more and more important to consider and offer ways to refil batteries - things that give energy to people - physically and mentally, including inspiration and acknowledgement & recognition, to stay in the game (ultimately win).

  • @loveandhappinesswithsheila

    Thank you Simon , This was a fantastic interview .The interviewer showed class , intellect, competence, and was genuinely open to learn , he definitely has a”how can I serve others better”mindset.
    .
    Something that is completely lacking today in most leaders in business and especially in our government .
    .
    However, I do want to add this for the leaders out there still trying to understand why they should put people first in their business , and those who want to understand what is the benefit of putting people first .
    .
    I would like to say this…The truth is you can gain all the money in the world you will still die and live it all behind.
    .
    on your death bed as you reflect on your life the only thing that will be valuable and matter to you are the lives that you’ve touched.
    .
    We all know money is not the answer to everything, it can’t buy you love, health, peace of mind . Somethings are just priceless .
    .
    So if you’re going to put value on something, place your value on the type of human being that you are becoming, and create companies that foster human quality , honestly,and being genuine .
    .
    Create companies where the vision is to make a positive impact on the world over pushing only for materialistic wealth.
    .
    Wealth is good but being genuine and having integrity and leaving a legacy that makes humanity better for generations to come …that is priceless. That is true wealth.
    .
    To me the infinite game is one we should all aspire to play.

    Thank god for this interviewer…! I am so grateful that he pushed back about the “contractor baby gift” story and made the connection re there is a real difference in motivation between what an owner is willing to do to build a business and what an hourly employee will do.
    Also, frankly, business practice needs to be sustainable no matter who is doing it.
    Im a Sinek fan -and I realize he had to think of a story on the spot, so I’ll cut him some slack-but my eyes rolled so hard at the tired example of the plumber, who goes out and buys the baby gift for the family yada yada… I just feel that that sort of advice is an old carry over from “hustle culture” and is really counter to some of the other advice that Sinek gives about sustainability.
    “Customizing” for each client like that is the absolute recipe for burn out. Sure, you can do it for a few individual clients and yeah you may get some referrals for it -but if you burn yourself out so much that you can’t do your actual plumbing job ( because you run out to buy a baby gift for this client wedding gift for the other client, and then you’re late showing up for your next plumbing jib…) You’re in the plumbing business, not in the gift giving business-- all I’m saying is this advice sounds great in a talk but it is an absolute RECIPE for exhaustion and burnout.
    So many business owners and service are expected to be so much more than what they do (to the point where in a yelp world customers start to expect it and even criticize you when you don’t provide extra perks and benefits to them as individuals.) I think it’s gotten completely out of control. Because we’ve become used to this sort of thing from companies and we know that that plumber isn’t giving that gift because he is kind or listening. Customers know it’s a quid pro quo that he’s trying to get referrals. That is not a “kind gift” that’s a highly targeted marketing strategy. If a plumber is good at their job they should be referred. If they need to give bribes and gifts-- maybe they are not very busy, and not very good at their job.
    A business person should obviously be courteous and, maybe having a conversation where are you say at the end of the day: “Hey, I really hope everything goes well with the new baby. “ THAT is a human connection and when it’s sincere that’s always welcome- but the whole gift-giving thing can really ring a false note of. “Hey, I’m going to bribe you for a referral.” It is exhausting and moreover it feels icky because it is manipulative and insincere.

    We're all in an infinite game whether we want to or not because of the bills we have to pay. Which makes me ponder, is the adulation for infinite mindset really meaningful for an average person? Taking a slightly contrarian view, are the people who can't retire and have to work till their 80s the ultimate practitioners of the infinite mindset?

    Hello to you bith
    My vision is most definitely a 'Just Cause', me thinks.
    Want to change lane in my career.
    After nearly two decades of mental health nursing of which thirteen years in Addictions.
    My need to change the structures of how we deliver our patient care and record our treatment outcomes is evidently NOT going to be actualised whilst working within the constraints of our near broken NHS. (In short).
    Pure Professional Uncertainty, scary exciting all at once.
    Which lane to switch to?
    Appreciate your shared conversation.

    Life needs are demographically determined needs. They are predictable for decades ahead; and based on those decades, they become manageable for centuries ahead. Their predictability results from an analysis of the conditionality of the needs, which allows each of them to be classified into one of three groups:
    - needs for which the volume of production is proportional to the number of population groups by sex and age (food, clothing, places in kindergartens, schools, universities, workplaces, etc.);
    - needs for which the amount of production is proportional to the number of families, according to the distribution of the total number of families by type (single people; childless families; large families; families with more than two generations living under one roof; families living in urban flats; families living in houses with plots of land, etc. - this spectrum of needs includes mainly housing and mainly household appliances and household equipment);
    - infrastructure needs, which are determined by the lifestyle of the region's population and the objectives of public institutions (such as transport infrastructure, energy infrastructure, information broadcasting infrastructure, education and health infrastructure, military bases and combat training infrastructure, etc.).
    The predictability of the demographic needs of each group makes it possible to design and prepare an economic model (matrix) at an early stage, which makes it possible to ensure the sustainable satisfaction of needs in a guaranteed and qualitative way, within a multi-generational framework.
    The scientific, technical, organisational, governancial and, above all, mental and moral-ethical progress of society, within the framework of a popular socially useful policy (as a system of professional life governance, locally and globally), in this case goes towards a planned system of multidisciplinary stability of the functioning of the production and consumption system.
    However, the irreversible transition of the economy and public administration to such a sustainable mode of operation requires a relatively long time - at best within a single mindful generation, which during its active life is based on the natural regularities of the universe, conscience and a developing moral-ethical posture.

    • @dzenpower
      @dzenpower Před rokem

      The plan - as such - is broadly:
      - a set of defined objectives and objectively verifiable indicators that describe each of the objectives and the actual process deviations from them,
      - and a set of measures (scenario, also multi-variant scenario) to use heterogeneous (identified and defined) resources and means to achieve a selected set of objectives (possibly in a specific order due to the unequal importance of different objectives and the limited resources and means available).
      This formulation is also applicable to socio-economic development plans. This is an inherently useful and clear definition of a plan, as it makes clear:
      - that a socio-economic development plan is a set of objectives for the production and distribution of a product and its governance scenario (governance is always purposeful, as it is impossible without the setting of specific objectives) for a multisectoral production-consumption system;
      - and the market mechanism is one possible means of self-regulation of the multiple production-consumption system, which (if it knows how) can be adapted to meet these or other production and distribution targets that have been set and defined.
      In other words, some socio-economic scenario plans may, in general, involve the use of a market mechanism to achieve the chosen objectives, while some other socio-economic scenario plans may completely or partially exclude or even block the self-regulation of the multi-sectoral production and consumption system through market mechanisms.
      The functioning of the so-called 'planned economy' and the 'market economy' as mutually exclusive systems stems from the opinions of past and present 'economic scientists', journalistic parrots and various 'analysts', whose activities are mainly governed by strictly defined grant regulations, which do not provide for the free expression of the scientific spirit, but rather foster ignorance and the implementation of foolish theories in practice.
      The following must be done for the global human economy:
      The origins of these two systems must be combined, harmonised, merged into a single algorithm of social self-government. To find an effective way to combine market mechanisms, local and global planning and regulation, to provide living conditions for each and all that correspond to human potential - each for their own common good.

    *Face palm* UPS would do a better job at creating morale in all their employees by giving them shiny EQUAL PAY for equal work… than worrying about shiny trucks.
    UPS are on the verge of a major strike because of these misguided “beautiful ideas”. that create burdens for employees because the CEO has confused something like “a shiny truck” as a benefit for the worker, when it is not. It is a benefit for UPS. They create policies like clean your truck wear a fancy pressed uniform, etc… but will not put money into rewarding employees monetarily. This is a HUGE disconnect between management and the people who are on the front lines. Hearing this tripe coming from Sinek, who I generally respect, is deeply disheartening.
