Now, i have a question for you Thomas and team.
How much it will cost (mabe as time needed to charge the battery at home too) to charge the battery in our homes?
When you drive, this nice MB, on diesel, let's say it costs you, the price it costs the 5 liters diesel needed for 100km, there where you leave.
But how many KWh do you need/"consume", at your house, to fully charge the battery? Because that's money too.
i guess Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a method to log back into an instagram account??

Nothing but appreciation for MB raising the eletric only drive to 100km in a PHEV
Spot on. 100km will cover even a heavy driving weekday for me and I wouldn't mind plugging it overnight everyday. Too bad charging is still so slow from house grids where I live that I cannot even get 380v delivered, just 220-240.

@@TillOverHill it is a big range for a PHEV and the 2.0 diesel will be better than any 2.0 petrol out there, that are the problem with most phevs, the lack of torque for ice driving only makes them behave like total nightmares.
PHEV is only fake electric car. How many times I see cars with E-plate number in Germany/Stuttgart. Curious, when the traffic light is switching to green, I can hear the internal combustion engine.
I think this is the perfect car.You have confort,you have power and you have a hybrid with excelent fuel economy and low emissions.

I always wondered why there were no diesel-hybrid cars where freight trains (at least here in Canada) have been using that setup for decades. It would be awesome to have this GLE here in Canada, best of both worlds as far as I’m concerned!

I received a GLE 350 de two months ago. I find I use two thirds electric with the one third used for longer journeys. It averages around 80km per charge. I’m very happy with the car as it’s a practical mix.

We tested the E300De before the summer season and we got sold when I drove few kilometers.
The car is powerful, drives well, looks nice, smoothness and amazing hybrid system, way much better than Volvo, BMW and VWs. When we got empty of electric range and used only the diesel engine and we got around 5 liters, insanly low fuel consumption combined. If I buy a hybrid car again I think I would go for this diesel hybrid system. Currently daily driving a Passat GTE...
A local dealer said that he made 1150km on one tank 90-110km/h, E300De:)

2. 5 liters pr 100km without any help from the electrical system, but was driving around in 70-90km/h

Your comments about hard acceleration with cold engine - I would say that if the engine has been developed to accept high load when cold, it will be fine.
More of a concern with diesel is the regeneration of the DPF, which usually demands some significant temperature in the exhaust, and some extended operation to successfully complete the regen.
Maybe there are some conditions where the car takes over, and you are forced to run the engine??
Great review once again Thomas. Given your experience on both cars 350de and 450, you think the hybrid version has enough power to move and moreover to perform overtakes on highways? Because there are many hp and 1lt, down ,the hybrid version.. I choose to buy this car but yet i cant decide which one..

Going forward can you please ask for the wading depth of SUVs? I live in a town which floods during the monsoon season and was surprised to find out that some SUVs don't allow wading at all (like the Volvo XC hybrids). Thanks!

This is the first PHEV I would consider! Finally a diesel-PHEV, definitely the 'best of both worlds' in my opinion. As a caravaner I would never consider any petrol engined vehicle for a tow car, they just don't have the torque to perform well in that role. So a PHEV that has a diesel is perfect. Everyday 'normal' driving, the 'school-run' for instance, where I do about 45kms each day would be pure electric, but then when we are off with the caravan, we've got the torque and driveability of the diesel to tow the caravan. Let other manufacturers (VW, I'm looking at you) bring on diesel PHEV's!

VW might bring a competitor in Europe and all other markets following European specs but not in North America where this kind of PHEV potentially makes the most sense since this is a real SUV able to take market share from other huge SUV sold in great numbers in North America due to the fact that it can do both - commute as an EV and tow as a real truck.

Hi Thomas, I too would like to know what electric range you actually managed. I have purchased a GLE (Brilliant Blue, Prem+ pack) but have to wait until the end of March for delivery, so I have to rely on videos such as yours and Ivan Sensei which i watch to get my daily "fix". I am somewhat OCD when it comes to economy. In addition, what is the realistic range on diesel only mode? Keep up the good work, I love your videos.

Thanks for engineers' explanation about suddenly hammering a PHEV ICE from cold. Unlicensed cart on street! Great demonstration of calm driving with Thomas as always. Nice car. Comfortable - good news. But "options options options". Too expensive and ostentatious for us! Yes, we'd charge overnight in the drive, drive electric all the time with a decent capacity battery, and be glad of having the diesel onboard for long trips or if called out at night with no charge! Hi Thomas. I am very interested to know how does this engine compare to the 400d from Mercedes. I have the feeling that even though this engine (or the 350 e) have almost the same horse power as the 400d, they don‘t produce the same acceleration as the 400d.
What is your experience with these engines?

Autogefühl I found details on www. Nadaguides.com .$1150.00 usd extra! I ordered a 2020 CLA 250 thru my dealer and never mentioned the “Multimedia package” (closed today Sunday) when we ordered the items and options. ( a lot of details ,l believe aren’t out yet because the car hasn’t been released to the USA market yet) . I will call them tomorrow! But I’m afraid ,if they ordered the car ,it might be too late to add it ,in order to enjoy the features of the MBUX! I believe the “Multimedia package” is intended to offer DVD/CD, and Sirius XM and updates ,but not sure! I appreciate your expert help , very much! Jeff

Both the closest picks indeed. I d compare dealer offers. Gle is available with artico and dinamica and x5 with sensatec, gle higher electric range and softer air suspension, x5 sportier more fun ride. Both excellent

Und 2. was passiert mit den Fondpassagieren, wenn mir einer hinten reinfährt, der große Akku ist ja im Kofferaumboden und somit direkt hinter den Fondpassagieren??? Having Diesel engine with the batteries is much better solution that petrol. As 4 cylinder 2.0 will give you good fuel economy by it self and then additing eletric motor is just brilliant. As usual amazing review guys :)

I think this is a great suv. Looks sleek compared to how big it is. Mercedes did a good job on the styling and interior. I think this is how a suv should be. Also nice to see a good compromise sized wheel that actually makes sense for comfort. I hate the trend with giant wheels that costs a fortune and gives a harsh ride. I also like the phev idea. oh and btw im even not a mercedes guy :) Great video as usual 👍

Very nice review. One humble request. Whenever you test drive SUVs, are you able to drive them on an unpaved road and compare their ride on road vs off road or city speed bumps. A lot of these modern cars are very smooth over highway roads, but lose their composure over city speed bumps or unpaved roads.

Can you pls review the new Bmw X5 45e?
Its recomended to not daily charge EVs to 100% or go to 0% to save the battery. What about Phevs like the GLE?
The GLE has a shorter wheelbase than the new Defender, and yet so much more space inside, especially in the second row.
The only problem / note on this review, is we cannot see the dials which would explain some of what you say.
I do a lot of drive to and from sites at night or before dawn in the morning so i would like to see your opinion on lights, especially as the IIHS have found such differences between even systems in one brand

Hi. I was wondering, if one do a long trip in the middle of the winter and drives only on diesel and you have a mattress at the back and you want to sleep in the car, is it possible to use the batteries in the both to heat up the interior for 8 hours while you're sleeping?
pre-heating works, not sure though when it shuts off. Probably when its empty. Dunno how much the heating takes

Do you know which reworks were done on which parts? I recently had a look at the new GLE and the row of AC buttons were completely loose. The whole thing would flex and wobble if you change the temperature. It's interesting. So they shipped the cars back to Germany to be fixed? Or is the quality of cars coming out of the Tuscaloosa plant not the same as a German plant?

The question I’m about to ask concerns the GLE range as a whole - why is the GLE’s optional Towing Package, which raises the towing limit from 2,700 kg to 3,500 kg and also includes an electrically folding tow bar and steering assistance to help you reverse with a trailer attached, only available for 450 petrol cars? (in the UK at least)
Surely it should be available for the diesel versions as well?
I was at IAA Frankfurt and the GLE was actually more enjoyable than the GLS in terms of rear seat legroom. The seating was comfortable and wasn't that bad but it was only a short moment not a longer trip. I found the infotainment controls a mix between iPad 'tablet' ish on the screen and old Windows '98 on the touch control - good mixed with annoying.

Is this hybrid version good for off-road (Sand) as it will not have the E-body control option or the GLE 450 is much more better in off-road in sand ?
Well e active body control u just need when stuck in deep sand. But tyre choice is more crucial

Can you explain battery level mode please? Does it self charge the batteries using the engine without the need to plug in? If so how long before it filly charges the batteries
yes, thats very inefficient but can be needed if cities have no-emission zones

It is off-road capable, yes. There are videos of it going through harsh conditions.

The car overall is fine but the door pockets are" reasonable" but in another similar car would be considered too small. The wood trim looks like a 1970s Ford Granada Ghia or hifi system..
Definitely i would go for the GLE350DE, despite the absense of any kind of tax benefits in my country. I would also use it all electric in the city but the diesel will serve me well in my trips. Three questions Thomas, how is the comfort for three adults in the back seat? If i got it right, only runflats? The charging time from a 7.4 wallbox? Thanks in advance

No doubt this. You can get the GLE with animal-free seats, the natural voice input is leading, the suspension is better and it is more reliable

Hi! Gute Frage, haben beide ihre Stärken. GLE mehr elektrische Reichweite, mehr nachhaltige Sitzoptionen Stoff/Kunstleder-Mix, Alcantara/Kunstleder-Mix, und voll Artico, Luft-Federung sanfter. Kommt ja auch noch als Benziner-PHEV übrigens. X5 ist etwas sportlicher ausgelegt, hat mehr Fahrfreude, dafür härter gefedert, hat hinten die witzige verlängerte Klappe, nur 2 Kunstlederoptionen in beige und schwarz. Ist pro und contra, Geschmackssache. Würde mal die Angebote vergleichen für ähnlich ausgestattete
@@autogefuehl Vielen Dank für die schnelle und ausführliche Antwort. Beim Preis ist bei vergleichbarer Ausstattung nicht viel Unterschied. Bei dem GLE finde ich v.a. die Schnellladefunktion vorteilhaft. Andererseits schont die langsame Ladung beim X5 auch die Batterie. Ich fahre hauptsächlich Kurz- oder Mittelstrecke und habe die Befürchtung, dass dies dem Diesel/Dieselpartikelfilter schlechter bekommt als dem Benziner, wenn der herkömmliche Motor über kurze Strecken hinzuarbeiten muss. Vielleicht wäre das Abwarten auf den GLE Benzin-Hybrid tatsächlich eine Option. Danke nochmals...und btw: Top-Arbeit.
Finally a Plug-In-Hybrid who is worth to get a "E-Kennzeichen" :) (Any PHEV who cant go more than 80 km should not get a E on the Plate, IMHO...)
But nothing for me i prefer fully electric. Because with PHEVs you have the weight of both systems...
What is the best choice please, we can't choose .. Full full option GLE SUV de350 with some -% on the purchase price vs Porsche Cayenne Coupé e-hybrid with 'half options' but more appealing inside/outside but more expensive.. is the Porsche worth it to give the extra €€€€?
depends on what u want. GLE is more comfy, Cayenne is sportier. Remember to go for the retro-fabric seats with the Cayenne Coupé as shown in our review: czcams.com/video/nFCLAJns-dE/video.html
Or with the GLE the Artico or Dinamica/Artico mix.

This car is almost perfect ....but I have some issues!
Premium Plus pack:
It would be nice with the power seat in the second row to help compensate for the minimal boot space. (The boot space is very small when compared to my current E-class 250cdi 2012/13).
The other issue is the tyres - there is no space for a spare wheel. There will be no joy or comfort in waitIng two hours in the middle of the motorway or at 23.00 on a country lane and definitely not on a mountain for a tyre service.
Also there seems to be no clear info on the wheel size, premium / premium plus pack was advertised with a 21” but on the order it says 20”.
Run flat tyres should be optional at least if not standard with premium plus.
It’s an eleven month wait for my order to the UK so there’s hope.
Maybe someone at MB will follow this up.
By the way the interior of the red GLE450 was brilliant...
I am not saying that our American friends like to keep the best to themselves... but they are not sharing the full version with us in Europe or the UK. It seems we are getting a cut down version of the premium plus!
I just found out that Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli now makes run flat tyres @ (275/50/20) 😀

KK : Yes, that's actually the only design weakness. Not only fake, but in combination with being so large area.
