- As part of the Qatar India 2019 year of culture, Naveen Kumar performed Music of Bollywood with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra sponsered by the Embassy of India in the 8 Feb , 2019 in Qatar National Convention Center - Almayasa theatre.
"Rakkamma Kaiya Thattu" (English: Rakkamma, Clap Your Hands) is a Tamil song from the 1991 Indian film Thalapathi. The song was written by Vaali and composed by the great, Ilaiyaraaja, with S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and Swarnalatha providing the vocals. The song was named the fourth most popular song in a poll conducted by the BBC World Service worldwide in 2002.

The entire orchestra team should be brought to justice for murdering this ilayaraja song. The mastermind who decided to increase the tempo of this song to such an insane pace ,and to include tabla (which sounded like a piece from an amateur drama) into the ensemble ,should be sentenced for life.

As you rightly point out, several changes have been made to the original, but it still retains the essence and therefore quite appealing. When Indian film music is played by an orchestra from another country, quite often the soul of the music is destroyed. There are a few You Tube videos of BBC Philharmonic orchestra playing the work of famous Bollywood music directors which demonstrates my point very well. However, it does not happen here. But of course, it is just my opinion and you may not agree.
Matt Brown Yeah you probably liked it like many others who gave positive comments to this attempt. But to my mind leaving everything else aside, the tabla part sounded like a child's disturbance in a rehearsal camp. Pls listen to it one more time. But Matt, the sad thing about music in this world is that it is everybody's property unlike most of other arts. No artist would even think of putting their brush on a Picasso or Ravi varma painting to blend his or her ideas with it..

@@freddiemercurybulsara3876 Are you saying this is NOT westernized as such (original song)? DON'T JOKE. You CANNOT categorize this song (and many other IR songs) to "that style". The ORIGINAL is a LESSON & exercise in counterpoints, polyphonic arrangement with SEVERAL layers. I agree that the vocals, tabla and unpleasant tempo tarnished the beauty of the song. For the caliber of Naveen, I was appalled to listen to this.
