This movie was as embellished as Hollywood movies are about WW2 German soldiers. Both are extremely biased. I think it’s refreshing just to see something different. Even though it’s not historically accurate. It’s not just another movie made out of the same mold.

@@bageled_meme2690 the problem is this one isn't a Hollywood movie, and is more than embellished. Like I get the fact that they can't really make it fully appreciate how long the allies were stuck on the beach but they could at least skip forward time wise. And the Allied bombing was completely horid. Even films that are Hollywood don't show that (saving private ryan)

Alright, who wrote this script and missed the history lesson?
    1. Bombings missed.
    2. The soldiers didn't leave the safety of the bunkers until the naval bombardment was over, and they saw Allied soldiers approaching the beachhead.
    3. If it weren't for Operation Fortitude(A diversionary operation part of Operation Bodyguard, which was part of Operation Neptune, to draw panzer units and the mass of German troops away from Normandy to Pas-De-Calais, in order for the Allied Landing Party could establish control of the beaches and start bringing in reinforcements and supplies.) We would've likely have lost at D-Day, because of how much didn't go to plan(Bombers missed, Paratroopers landed miles off target, etc.).

@@thibaud9269 okay. I'll put it like this. Dont quote me on it because nothing is 100% true. But the ww2 bombings were recorded to be so powerful that it would send shockwaves to space. It was the equivalent of around 300 lightning strikes. Now let's take the concrete huts they were in that had like 2 feet of concrete over there heads. I'll give em the benefit of the doubt, they were thought places. But not only this. They had enemy soldiers coming in for miles. So not only were the bunkers not gonna do anything but get them crushed in groups and if they weren't crushed they'd be handicapped if not killed by the soldiers invading once found or taken as pow's. So yes it was smarter for them to leave those bunkers and spread out that way one bomb wouldn't kill as many people. And what I said previously doesnt apply to this situation only that they COULD do it. But ground troops were more focused on suppressing fire on the waves of enemies coming in. Until they had their head on their shoulders enough to deal with the planes and all that good stuff. Idk man that's just how they were trained. The germans weren't expecting it. And idc how long you've trained. Or what branch you are. If you're under attack. Especially when you arent expecting it. You will panic and lose train of thought and adrenaline will take over and soldiers have that if under attack. Shoot back mentality. So I mean yeah not all choices they made were smart obviously but staying in those places was just suicide. There were hundreds of planes. And soldiers coming in by the second. It's not like they could wait for them to stop. Mine as well go out taking a few with you. Or at least trying.

Because I'm that kind of person, here's all the things that I saw were wrong with this:
0:00 This never happened. The bombs dropped about 5 miles behind enemy lines because it was cloudy and the pilots didn't trust the radar as it was recent tech. None of the bunkers or any bit of the beaches were damaged via aircraft
0:26 The Nazis were only caught slightly off-guard because the assault started at 6am and half of them were asleep. The ships were easily visible to the ones awake and they were more than ready before any of the allies laid a foot on the beaches
0:45 None of the AA weapons were this close to the beach; They were at least 500ft behind the "Atlantic Wall" (nickname for the fortifications along the Normandy beaches). The AA this close also never fired because the planes that did fly over were committing a nighttime raid, and none of the AA guns this close to the beach were aware of their existence
1:05 No fighter planes were used during the start of Operation Overlord
1:32 The ships that were deploying the Higgin's boats did not fire upon the beaches until the beaches were almost fully taken. This is because in order to stay out of range of Nazi artillery, they had to stay too far out at sea for them to be able to fire. They only fired very late into the marine invasion because it would have meant a complete commitment to the mission and a possible sacrifice of the ships, a risk that would only be taken if they were sure of the mission's success
1:32 They did not send out this many Higgin's boats at the beginning of the invasion. The boats came in waves smaller than this, although more in total were sent out throughout the whole 3 hour mission
1:58 The point in the beach that they landed on was nowhere near this shallow, and almost no one made it going out the front of the Higgin's boats in the first wave. Most of them dove off the edge of the boat, which would drown quite a few of them, as most of them were seasick carrying 80+ pounds of gear diving into 10ft deep water
2:02 The Nazis would have started firing long before this, let alone before the ramps dropped
2:10 On Omaha beach, which I assume this is supposed to be depicting (there were 5 beaches: Sword, Gold, Juno, Utah, and Omaha, the bloodiest and most famous of them all), the Americans were not able to run this far into the beach on the first wave, as most were pinned down behind dead bodies of their friends or tank blockades for cover under heavy suppressing fire from all angles up the wall of the beach while trying to not get blown up by mortars, artillery, and mines
2:16 The beach in this scene seems to be at most 300ft long. Assuming this is Omaha again, this beach would have been 1000ft long, strewn with tank blockades and anti-boat ramps for the first few hundred and the rest being covered in mines and barbwire lines. It took the Americans 3 hours to advance along the whole beach and start to fight back, at which point the tides shrunk the beach almost up to the wall, which happened to be one of the bigger motivators to get soldiers to move up the beach
2:25 Americans grouped up like this would have been completely annihilated. The MG42 (the Nazi machineguns being used in this scene) fired at a minimum of 1200 rounds per minute, earning it the nickname "Hitler's Buzzsaw" because it sounded similar to a saw being used when fired. It also shot 7.92x57mm Mauser, which is a really big round if you didn't know. That size of rounds going downrange that quickly would tear apart any soldier before they'd realize they hit the ground, not to mention how many of those were posted up and shooting onto the beaches. All a Nazi would have had to do was spray in the general direction of any of these groups and they'd all be dead in about a second or so. Multiple of those posted up and I think you can see why groups like this wouldn't have lasted this far into the beach
2:31 Why is there a Nazi standing in front of the sandbags? Is he suicidal? Does he need a hug?
2:35 As discussed previously, this is about half the minimum firerate of the actual MG42. In the amount of time these machineguns are seen firing, the barrels would've started getting a bit red
2:42 The grapple mortars were not used on the beach section of Omaha. They were used specifically by the rangers who had to scale a cliffside as their mission was to attempt to take out the artillery positions behind the lines of the Nazis
    This concludes my Ted-talk
