Both drew and aimed their pistols but neither men shot. They lowered their arms before walking to each other. The German unloaded the exact bullet that could have ended his grandfathers life and gave it to him, to which he did the same. He was buried with it in his pocket when he passed 6 decades later.

My grandfather was a sapper during the second world war.
He was injured and forced to retreat into a forest at one point and he happened to stumble across a German medic that was on patrol was my grandfather's guess.
For a while they stood there staring at eachother with guns raised until the German medic noticed my grandfather's wounds and said in broken Russian
"You are injured,yes?"
My grandfather confirmed he was.
The German asked my grandfather if he would let him help.
My grandfather thought he had nothing to lose and let the German medic patch him up and give him water.
Hours passed and they had made a campsite, fire place and makeshift shelter.
They exchanged many stories about close calls and few moments of joy they had.

I was born in USSR. Both of my grandpas fought in WW2. My one grandpa told me a story how he was out of ammo and a German caught up to him. My grandpa was wearing a coat that was Soviet standard issue and doubled as a tent for sleeping under during rainy days. So it was very drapy. The German aimed and unloaded the whole clip into my grandpa. Not one single bullet hit him but his coat looked like a fisherman’s net. He looked down and couldn’t believe his eyes. The German had the look on his face like he witnessed a Devine miracle. Then the German walked up to him, shook his hand. They exchanged looks that said “neither one of us want to be here.” They turned around and walked in opposite directions. Never saw each other again. But my grandpa was always grateful that the German didn’t take out his side arm and finished the job. He said it was a surreal moment for both of them. I usually never care about characters that much in a film, but this scene is so simple yet it expresses so much.
Both from two sides, two cultures, two leaders, yet both know that they are just young men forced or willingly join their nation's cause. The Russian showed trust and kindness as well as the young German soldier, they drank, ate and smoked together. When the other Germans approached the young German knew that the others would kill the soviet and possibly him as well. You can see in their eyes that neither wanted to die, but it had to for the sake of survival, their was no boundaries or barriers. Both became friends without a single word spoken, it's sad and yet beautiful, poetry without dialog. Great work dear creator to show both sides in a better light and humane way.
This is so powerful. Actions speak so much more than words do. I feel that the Russian understood that as a soldier the German had to do it, but didn't want to go after meeting a friend, same goes for the German. He hated that he had to do that to someone he felt compassion or worry for, because he is another human being that didn't want to fight in a war he had no quarrel in. Truly a beautiful film with a very important meaning.
My grandfather dead from that actions, why are you living in this wourld? You should be in another place with him :(

There are no victors in war, everybody loses.

@@nomad_94 ok, what years today? I was in the cryo pod since WW2 is over.
@@nomad_94 But the PEOPLE lost.
My grandfather was born in the war, he was just a baby when yugoslavia was overtaken by the german forces...he told me that when the german soldiers were burning down houses in his village, they lit up the house where his family lived, his mother was woken up by the noise, went outside and forgot him in the house. when she found out that he is still inside she asked a german soldier if she can go and save him and he said yes! minutes before they burned the house down...he was extremely lucky..after that his mom named him "srečko" which in slovenian language means lucky. 😀
Wow. Such a sad but interesting story
Damn the German soldier was a good man
Chad German soldier
Yeah and thousands of others werent that lucky.
German soldiers were generally more civilized than the Soviets.
I just wish that everyone had the chance to watch this movie and share the emotions and read all the comments. Very powerful message.
Is there the full movie ?

CZcams never used to be this commercialised. Videos would occasionally have the uploader promote something but otherwise it was as it was intended and should be. Its a shame, really.
Have you heard about ad block
AdBlock my friend. I haven't seen an ad on YT in years.
@@capnskurk8679 have you heard about mobile?
We domt have access to adblock.
@@davecrupel2817 If your phone is rooted you can use AdAway. It uses Fanboy's EasyList just like browser adblockers. It's not listed on Google Play, so you're required to have root to install software from untrusted sources.
Any idea how to find full movies in this one? Thank you
its amazing how this can break all barriers we all know whats going on and its a beautiful slice of humanity before having it torn away truly a work of art

I’m a Norse Pagan. I left Christianity for my own reasons, but that is the one psalm that I still hold in my heart. We should all be kinder to one another. Even in difficult times. Even simple acts of kindness and love keeps the darkness at bay, even if just for a moment
@@mandalorian1994 I’m muslim, and the saying of the prophet, peace be upon him goes like this: A true muslim doesn’t sleep with his neighbor needy. It’s just sad how Islamophobia is a thing, and we really just want peace. Peace out to all religions ✌️!

In my view film shows how people act differently when they are left alone and when they are in group. He shot him only because other germans would find them and he would get executed for helping enemy but alone they were human to eachother.
Same thing would have happened if roles were reversed.

No the only reason he shot him was because he had two choices... either ease his pain and kill him instantly or leaving him there to die alone/ being caught and being a prisoner which is way worse than getting shot.
