  • This week we have secured a floor..... but there was many steps to get here!
    1. Sound Deadened using Dodo Mat. We did this on the floor, sides, roof and wheel arches (covering approx 30% of surface area)
    2. Created a subfloor using 25mm batons, kingspan insulation, sealed with foil tape.
    3. Prepped MDF sheets by cutting to size and applying a coat of PVA Glue/ Water mix to both sides. Secures into place by screwing into base batons.
    4. Top Vinyl/ Lino floor secured into place with spray adhesive

    Don't forget to sound deadening the bottom of the rear door and side door. It makes a massive difference to how they feel and sound when shut. I've also added it on the cab doors. Makes it sound much more premium and reduces road noise massively. Also did the roof too - it's the noisest panel - be sure to stick the ribs to the roof if they've got a gap too - it adds rigidity and I just used some bags of soil on the roof to weigh it down whilst the sika stuck.

      Thank you! Yes we have removed the panels and put sound deadening in the bottom of the doors too as you suggest 😀

    Good stuff, just keep an eye on the weight as you progress , we have the same van . Good decision not to include shower, space is premium. cheers.

    I’ve super enjoyed these Shell. I’ve just binge watched them all. I’ve always enjoyed your insta and whatnot content which has always been inspiring as a reseller but diy is my guilty pleasure too. Great job you’ve both done. ❤

    Also. Remember a mask when using spray adhesive. It's "known to cause cancer" - horrible stuff even if it is effective. Best not to breathe it in. Love your flooring. We used planks rather than a big piece and used rubber coin flooring in the "garage"

      @Rags2Pitches  Před 19 dny

      Thank you! We might actually upgrade the garage flooring to the rubber coin one later down the line if it doesn’t hold up very well! 💜

      @@Rags2Pitches it'll probably be fine tbh. I also laid it after I'd built all our benches and kitchen so I didn't lay more weight down on the floor. Adding all our weight, fuel, water and all the insulation, wood etc you'd be amazed how close you get to being overweight - so that's worth considering. All in we have about 150kg spare when full of everything. Which isn't a lot. But that's everything - clothes, fuel etc.

    I was going to mention what’s involved having a shower..hot water or not, and how to store water and power etc for the shower etc…would have been a big hole in your budget….i think a wise decision/ compromise to scrap the shower idea.
    Have you thought about some sort of heating..diesel heater etc…this would not hurt your budget too much. Be aware gas heater are not very safe as far as carbon monoxide, and a diesel heater would be great for your kid to be comfortable at night. Budget around £180 to do a diesel heater. A Kidde 5CO carbon monoxide alarm is excellent recommended and about £16, a must have for safety. I have an old one, works well and has a Test feature.
    Are you getting a power bank thing or thought about solar? This could be a major cost.
    Wet toilet ( cassette plus chemicals) or dry ( compost type)?

    • @Rags2Pitches
      @Rags2Pitches  Před 9 dny +1

      Thanks for the info Richard! Yes we have purchased a diesel heater and will definitely get some kind of monitor / alarm you mention. We actually have purchased a power bank and will have a 12v simple system running alongside that! For the toilet I am leaning more towards a compositing one as less headache disposing of it! 💜

      @@Rags2Pitches diesel heaters are well worth your budget, I recommend even the Chinese diesel heater, but upgrade the fuel line if u get a green one, it’s too soft and will give u issues down the line( so to speak) once diesel has been running though it a while…plenty of research required on YT! …upgrade other fittings too, don’t go cheap, spend about an extra £25 to get your Chinese diesel heater installed properly, plus u will need a mounting plate, make sure it it deep enough………and I would not get a cassette toilet, go dry….you can find some pretty good cheap ish ones, but with a kid I would look at those over a cassette toilet all day long. A bucket with a bin liner will do!!😅

    • @richardsracingmad
      @richardsracingmad Před 8 dny

      The fasteners for exhaust and inlet are not that safe that come supplied, so do your research before u fit it!
