- Thinking about the value of wandering around a foreign location, as a slow traveler (#Slowtravel) or part time expat (#expat) to get a more intimate feel for the location, and get in sync with the culture.
We are interested in how slowing down your travel impacts your experience of the location and culture, and are working on a number of videos that address this topic. If you are new to the idea of slow travel, check out our recent video that explains the overall concept.

👨🦱👩🦰MORE ABOUT US:👨🦱👩🦰 www.89daysaway.com/about-us
We got rid of most of our belongings, and headed to Portugal to move overseas. But it didn't really work out for a number of reasons. But we are really happy with the alternative - being slow travelers and part-time expats! We have a small home in the USA that is our home base, and spend 1-3 months at a time in one place overseas, several times a year. We stay long enough to really learn about a place's people and the history, and experience living in the culture.
And in case you were wondering: Our channel title "89 Days Away" refers to the EU Schengen limit of letting visitors stay 3 months (in the Schengen zone) during a visit-living away for 89 days before having to go home. If you want to stay away for longer, some other countries let you stay for 6 months, so you can put together an agenda that allows you to stay overseas as long as you need to get what you are looking for.
Wandering is the difference between being a tourist and being a traveller
Perfect.
Great distinction.
This is good advice - wander and allow serendipity to enter your life!
This was great! I love to wander and come upon unexpected gems when I travel, and to experience what the locals experience. Thanks for posting this video.
Thank you! We’re so glad you liked it! It gave us some great memories when we made it. :-)
Slow travel combined with wandering- the best combination to come away with stress free unique experiences. 💕
Love that!
Day 106 of 180. I spend half the year traveling the world. Some fast travel, some slow. It depends on my mood.
Many dream of travel. Stop dreaming and do it. Europe is cheap in the winter.
Some (maybe most) of my very best travel memories are when wandering. I love this message. I would like to add that my vacations are generally shorter (7-9 days) but all the better for slowing down.
Love that!
Wonderful! I was just explaining the benefits of wandering to someone earlier today. Getting out of the vacation mindset and learning how to travel slowly is the key to enjoying this lifestyle. It's so much more enriching, memorable and less stressful. Those days where you don't have a set agenda can sometimes turn into the nicest ones. Definitely appreciate the philosophical videos, but the practical ones are great, too. Really enjoying your videos! Glad I found your channel.
Thank you so so much for taking the time to write! This is very helpful. We are trying to figure out CZcams, which is very mysterious! 🤷♀️😂
Loved this philosophical offering❣️ You *represent* us non-tourist types. Thank you for giving a VOICE to this mindset. 🤗
You are so very welcome! Glad to find people like you. Stay tuned...we'll have more like this!
Just found your channel. I am a slow traveler without an agenda. I travel because I like new cultures and adventures
Welcome aboard!
Philosophy and practical, all great parts!!!! Thanks for putting your ideas out there.
Glad you like them!
This is such a lovely and calming video. I actually found it quite moving. I feel really inspired to try this approach. Thank you 🙏
Many thanks!
I enjoy your practical videos but especially appreciated this more philosophical one. For me the days of "Instagram travel", as I call it are gone. Snapping pictures, posting and checking boxes are okj when time is limited. These days, I much prefer settling in and staying a while.
Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know! We really want to be able to bring you content that’s useful. And we agree about Instagram Travel! :-)
New to your channel, and love it! Especially this one. You both seem sensible, practical, and open-minded, which I appreciate. My husband and I are looking to retire in the EU with 2 bags each (we have sold nearly everything) in two years, so we take your information to heart. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Hope that your travels work out for you.
Very correct. Very true.
My adult daughter calls me Coddiwomple
To travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination
That’s the first time I heard that word. Excellent!
Great point.
Great video! I'd like to see you discuss "how" you wonder. Such as showing us your temporary accommodations and mode of travel. Not necessarily a detailed financial breakdown, but discussing what type of accommodations are available in that location to slow travelers (based on that countries policies on short term rentals, etc.) and what mode of travel you use to move from one location to another. Also, when you fly home to the States, do you shop for the cheapest ticket or do you primarily stick to one airline/alliance. Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestions. We are working on some videos that address those topics.
Agree with everything you said
This is the kind of comment I like!
I don't know how I stumbled on your site. It just popped up.
This is exactly the traveling style I want to do in /24.
No agenda
No plan
I look forward to see what you come up with
First up for me is traveling with my sister (3rd yr to Europe in March). From Calgary➡️ Heathrow➡️ Madrid➡️ Malaga➡️ amsterdam➡️ back to Heathrow➡️ home
In 20 days. That's way too too many airports for me. But only 4 plans. And 2nd time to amsterdam. And Heathrow only for connections
We’re glad you found us! Thanks for writing. Your trip sounds amazing! 🤩 Hope you’ll keep us posted.
Both please!
Thanks for letting us know! We’re on it! :-)
Great attitude and love this style of travel. Where are you now for the holidays?
In the US for the next few months, then Scotland for 2 months or so.
We were in Scotland last September, it was so beautiful and we hit the weather jackpot@@89daysaway , enjoy!
Our daughter is a student at Edinburgh university, so we have been going over for a few months in the spring to be able to live in the same area for a while… and take side trips throughout Great Britain
