Honestly, I really wouldn't bother. They were shite - even when nearly new! Best Fiesta I had was a 1.3 ghia mk1. I regularly used to get the speedo needle pressed against the trip meter button on its second lap around the dial!!! Try a Phase 2 Uno turbo if you want a genuinely nippy car. Genuinely quick to about 75.

I remember my dad taking me to buy my first car, and my eyes lighting up at seeing one of these in flame red on the forecourt of the first place we visited. The salesman, which fair play to him for doing so, asked my age (20) then laughed and pointed out I'd never get insured for one of those. I ended up later that day with a 1.2 Nova saloon. The insurance on that was more than the car.

I paid through the nose most of my cash to be able to own one legally at 18, the car was 6 years old but like new, I loved it. The police didn't. EDIT: You were better off with the nova, I had a red devil special edition 1.2 after the fiesta, far less stops and without the butthurt egos when it was clear everything was legit- it wasn't really much difference when driving it sensibly either :) I botched 2 hitachi home hifi speakers into the back seat legroom. They bumped tunes loud but the kids in the back had a big problem with hugging knees. Should have got their own car eh. No sympathy

Finance has made the car market so accessible that it’s lead to massive price hikes and they will actually say it’s because cars are safer and full of tech.

Look how empty the roads are! I used to drive one of these in the '95 when I was 19. No airbags, ABS or traction control - light as a feather.
My mate had a Turbo Technics conversion done on his. 190bhp in an 800kg car. Makes me come out in a cold sweat now, thinking about how we used to drive that pocket rocket.
My other best mate had an phase 2 R5 turbo. That was fun but even more flimsy. Couldn't open the doors when it was jacked up as the whole body would twist.

Bet they sell for a pretty penny if you could find one in this kind of condition today! Back then they were so common as to be considered semi-disposable (rather like today's Fiesta!). Mind you, no speed cameras about so you could actually enjoy your car a lot more than today. Doesn't time fly!

In the three years I had it it required 4 new carburettors, a new steering rack, gearbox and clutch replacement and a steering lock replacement. On its first mot it failed on warped front discs and a leaky brake piston that I had been billed for on its main dealer service a week before! I had a G reg XR2i, D reg XR2, even had a B reg Escort XR3 once, it took 4 star petrol at the time! They would be stone cold collector's cars now. I musta had upwards of 15 different cars in the 90s. I miss those days, borrowing dad's jigsaw to cut out the parcel shelf speakers, saving up for an amp + subwoofer! Then it all got nicked from my XR2i because they simply pulled and bent the top of the driver's door to get in! Racing with mates on a day trip to the seaside, prodigy on my CD radio that cost more than the car, ignoring worrying noises as I didn't have enough money for repairs... Take me home boyysss!! ❤
