I love that he wrote this song not about his wife, but instead about a girl he lost. He still believes she was beautiful because he had nothing else. To him at the time, she was the entire world. He kept that with him even to this day. How incredibly beautiful...

Except for the fact the he sings "It was you, It was you, and you are beautiful." By this change from the third person to the second person, we see that he is singing to the woman now. I think he's reminiscing with his wife.

Ben Rector is one of the great singer-songwriters of this generation. This song is a testament to his talent. You can put his songs up against any of his contemporaries, and he is more than equal to them. He should be better known and better rewarded for sure.

It's honestly so sad that I didn't even know that he existed until this year when my show choir director chose 'Brand New' for the opener. I checked out more of his music and I'm really starting to like it :) (well not this year but 2018 in November)

first heard this song when i was 15, i thought back then this song is dope singing bout the girl u used to love and wondered how good it must've felt. fast forward, im 17 now and i still listen to this piece but with the girl i met when i was 16, on my mind. hits different when u now have memories linked to some song. she really was beautiful. i was 16 and dumb.
This song is music at its very best. You won't find a better song from James Taylor, Jackson Browne, or even Paul Simon. This is a classic and worthy of high praise.
This song reminds me of sophomore year of high school. My school year included a trip to Kentucky to tour the Noah's Ark model (I go to a Christian school). I had just discovered Ben's music and listened to it to calm my nerves while I flew on an airplane for the first time. This song was the one I used as my alarm to wake up to every morning. Whenever I hear the beginning, I think of that trip. To make it more bittersweet, our principal went with us on that trip, then passed away only a few months later. See you in Heaven Mrs. A. YOU were beautiful!
I could see and hear that Ben was a gifted artist: musician, singer and song writer, but I didn't realize this other talent until I watched more videos of his concerts and touring. Now, what might be his greatest talent, is that he is a true entertainer. A natural showman like some of the greats - Sinatra, Bennett, Crosby, Williams, Cole, etc . . . . .
Ben is so comfortable with his fans, audiences, the camera, his band and crew. That takes a showman and a humble man who can deal with all the various factors.
A rare star that will be a Super star in the near future. Ben has it all and will be a legend in music.

I think 🤔 ✨ that Ben's music 🎵🎶 Is just that, Beautiful ❤️, I discovered him last Thanksgiving, when I heard the Thanksgiving Song, it was my second Thanksgiving Holiday since my mother passed away. I heard that song and it brought me joy. Just like his new album with Joy in the title, his music is wonderful 👍💛🦋🍁 and I love it.✝️👼🏾🕺🦅🇺🇸🌍💖🌈🦋🎉🎉🎉🌻🕯️
