Just got a 7700 non x . Running 5150mhz with pbo curve -30. Never goes above 70c in games. Never seen it go over 80w in power consumption either.
Those who go the intel route, good luck. We know they are better in some instances, but not at such a low power consumption. My previous intel could easily double as a room heater.
Great idea, getting under 100W for this kind of performance is very impressive. I like that strategy - I can even live with the pricing, quality release from AMD - well done !
Pricing BUT don't you need a motherboard at CRZY price ? Aren't you FORCED to use DDR5 at CRAZY prices

It’s a lot of money to change but maybe in the long run it’s worth it. I couldn’t afford it myself.
I wouldn’t want a CPU that cooks itself. So the non X models are a blessing!

The lower price, lower power requirements and better value makes these a lot better value for consumers and deliver ~98% of the performance of the X-series lineup by AMD 🤯🔥💪🥳. I was considering in the future the X-line up or the X3D, but it seems for me, as an ITX builder, the non-X is the way to go 💪🍻. Cheers buddy.

Great review! I'm thinking of going for the 7700 or 7900. I prefer to have a more efficient, and cooler CPU, than one that runs really hot. And I don't want to watercool, so I also like the included cooler.
I currently have a 1700 and using the included cooler with that, and it's still running fine, even under full load Radeon software reports its only 61 degrees.
I was going to wait for the 7800X3D, but decided I'd rather save the money, since I'm sure the 7700 or 7900 with perhaps a 6800xt will keep me going as long as the 1700 and Vega 64 have done. Plus AM5 entry price is quite high, so I've got to save money somewhere :)
Also it's good to see a UK channel. Do you know when these are released in the UK? It seems that retails have NO information on their page about release date. The keynote said today, but their own page says 14th Jan. Pretty shoddy launch.

Way better running temperatures - won’t need an AIO water cooled solution for one of these.
These are the CPUs that most people should be buying. If I didn't already have a stellar AM4 platform setup, that R7-7700 would be my pick of the three. I currently use an AMD Wraith Prism on my R7-5800X3D and it works beautifully! I have a Wraith Spire RGB as my backup cooler but, let's be honest here... Air coolers don't die. My AM2+ cooler (which I have affectionately named "Baby Wraith") that came with my Phenom II X4 940 back in 2008, still works perfectly. It's really quite amazing that it does because I used that Baby Wraith for my Phenom II X4 940. Phenom II X4 965 and even my FX-8350 (because the AM3 cooler was absolutely horrible). That's seven straight years of use and it's still a working CPU cooler today. The Phenom II and FX CPUs weren't exactly low-power and cool-running CPUs with both having TDPs of 125W.
If yo'u're a gamer like me, then liquid cooling is a complete waste of money as a stock AMD air cooler will work just fine. I just wish that AMD would dump the Wraith Stealth cooler and bring back the Wraith Spire because that was also an awesome cooler. My stepfather bought a Ryzen 9 3900X which came with a Wraith Prism. The problem is that he's old-school and HATES RGB lighting. My R5-3600X came with a Wraith Spire and I never even opened it because I like RGB and was quite happy with the Wraith Spire RGB that came with my R7-1700.
However, one day I was swapping out a motherboard for him and he asked me if I knew how to "turn that goddamn RGB off" on the Wraith Prism. I truthfully told him that I didn't and asked him what the problem was. He told me that he found RGB to be "Gaudy and Tacky" so I offered to trade him my unopened Wraith Spire for his Wraith Prism. He said as long as it could cool his R9-3900X (which incidentally has a TDP of 65W), he would love to make that trade.
Well, I popped the Wraith Spire onto his R9-3900X, ran some tests using Prime95 and Passmark Burn-in and there was only some mild throttling after about five minutes of Prime95. He said that he was perfectly happy with that because he doesn't do anything even remotely as strenuous as Prime95. I was absolutely thrilled to get the Prism because I think that it's one of, if not the, most beautiful CPU air cooler ever made. I didn't even mind relegating my Wraith Spire to perpetual emergency backup status (perpetual because, again, air coolers never die).

What offset did you try with Curve Optimiser?
Looking at the Ryzen 9 7900 R23 stock performance, my tuned 5900X is right behind it, hitting 23.6K with PBO/Curve Optimizer.
Interesting, this is exactly what I wanted to know. But I still can't get myself to buy am4 just to save 200-300 usd..
I see the 13600K twice 115W 4.7GHz and 168W, is this some sort of setting that you change in the BIOS ? what is the default behaviour ? 115W or 168W ?
I'm fixing to start a mini-itx build using the 7900 mated to a 4060 solo. Going to be a mean little package using the smallest mini-itx case I could find (JOYJOM Mini ITX PC Case with PCI Riser,)

I bought a 7900 non-x, and I'm debating whether to make this a Win10/11 machine or a Linux PC of some sort. The electrical system in my house will be happy with the reduced power usage.
Sad, I was gonna get the 7700x so I bought an arctic freezer a35 rgb cooler for 45 aud. Now I was thinking of going 7900 cos more cores. But what would I do with the stock cooler?
i really interested in the 7700 with 65 W. Its like 40 W less then the 7700x so its basiclly the eco mode but cheaper and less temps
Upgrade question: My computer main components are MSI MPG X670E Carbon WiFi motherboard, MSI 3060 X12g GPU (Nvidia), 64 GB Kingston Beast DDR5 4800 memory, 850 watt power supply, Ryzen 7 7700 CPU (65w version). This is NOT used for gaming, but used for photo editing, specifically astro photos where 'stacking' is heavily used and the main programs are 'Pixinsight' and 'Affinity Photo' . I'm trying to figure out if I would gain anything significant by upgrading to the Ryzen 9 7900 CPU (65w version) and keeping all the other components the same. I have PBO enabled but no other tweaks. Can't find any good answers on the web so I'm asking the 'experts' here. Thanks!
Killer chip for ITX builds. Now if only there were more ITX boards for AM5.
I am just debating upgrading my personal PC from i5-3570 cpu (I know it is old) to probably Ryzen 9 7900 (non X), because of power consumption. I use PC for a little gaming and most for productivity. I know that X3D versions are rated at 120W TDP. Is the gain in performance will justify to go for X3D version of 7900 versus price difference?

Newbie question: Does PBO only work with non-'X' CPUs or can it be turned on for 'X' CPUs? If so, would the 7700X for example, perform even better again??
Are you able to choose how much overclock do you want with pbo? Cause its such a huge jump with it from 90W to 180W. It would be a good thing to have something in the middle like 130W.

i did the jump from a 9900kf to a ryzen 9 7900 and i'm really happy with it, less power consumption and better temps, idle temp 38 and 48 in games with a dark rock pro 4.
I was thinking the same, setting the 7900 to a 105W TDP max 141W consumption while still having better efficiency and temperatures. Would be interesting to know. Also does it effect the non X variants in a negative way to activate PBO? It shouldnt be, because they are basically X Cpus with a limit, so its not overclocking basically.

So the X versions of the chips really are not worth it then considering the extra heat and cost.
Doesn't the CPU put out performance up until cpu hits 95°?? So wouldn't a CPU with a lower Max limit put out less performance? Depending on the cooler ofc. Or is that not how it works?
@@xyr3s yes, but its this way only for high tdp CPUs who get very hot. The cpu throttles as soon as you hit max temp with max TDP. You will first hit max tdp, as soon as you hit max temp, you clock speeds would throttle.
lowering the Cpu max temp. Should force the Cpu to draw less Power, resulting slightly lower boost speeds. You could limit the 7900x to 85 max temp. This would force the cpu to automatically lower the TDP, while dont having a very significant performance loss. So its a good way to make your system more efficient.
So can I use the wraith prism on my 7900?
Last week upgraded ny 5600x/asus b450/32GB 3200 to 7700/B650M PG Riptide/KingBank 6400 CL32, and with tweaks I have quite happy with the final results:
BIOS Settings:
Memory = 6400 @CL30/38/38/80 1.4V
FCLK = 2133
UCLK=MEMCLK/2 (My system fails if I run 1:1 UCLK=MEMCLK)
PBO: Advanced/Motherboard, Scaller 10X, Positive 200
CO: All core, Negative, -30
iGPU = Disabled
BIOS Thermal Limit = 89C
Cinebench R23 Multi/Single = ~19,200/~2000 (~44-46W/~114-116W)
Idle = ~49-51C (Windows 11; room temp ~23C)
Games max 92C
Load (Cinebench R23)
All core=5.1-5.2hz @89.4C
Single Core = 5.49Ghz (59-60C)

i have a ryzen 5700x and im just wondering do u think it would be worth it to upgrade im thinking to get a rtx 4080 and im not sure if a 5700x would be a big bottleneck?
I am assuming with that card you would be playing in 4K, haven't seen videos on this particular topic, but Hardware Unboxed summary puts the 7700 around 35% higher average fps than 5700x at 1080p with rtx 4090
So based on other Hardware unboxed numbers of average fps at 4K, I don't think it will matter, at 1440p maybe, but this is based on averages, it will depend on specific games and what framerate you target

So just but a non-x chip and overclock it and you’ve got basically the same performance for way less money.

7900 or 7700X? Got a 1440p screen, fits in budget, and have a PSU that supports all of these.
If it's just for gaming and general processes then it's 7700x. This set of gaming reviews isn't really the best.
i say the 7900, much easier to cool and better power efficiency.
If you are also doing some productivity like video editing and 3D the 7900 seems to be an amazing option. You will also benefit from multicore Performance in the near future. You could built a monster productivity and gaming machine while having basically a silent Pc when you use a decent cooler like noctua.

looks like they got a dud for the 7700 which didn't OC very well which is within my experience with all non X Ryzen CPU's.

7900 looks to be around £450.
I mean losing like 5 to 10% of performance and using less power. Thats pretty good. Im down for it.

Attenzione al dissipatore . Alcuni di essi anche se compatibili con Am5 non aderiscono alla perfezione sulla CPU che e leggermente diversa fisicamente . Oltrettutto la pasta termica mettila distesa completamente sulla CPU con una palettina con strato fine e non utilizzare la pallina al centro .
The board price dont matter it is upgradable for a couple years its an investment.
Am5 is great ..but as it involves a new mb..ddr5 ram...and pu thats alot to pay out for when am4 running just fine.

@@tilapiadave3234 the problem is that many websites or reviewers don't want to spend too much time. Many don't have the knowledge and only want free gear and grow the channel. Some don't mind pushing for more consumption as it forces the consumer to upgrade the psu, screen and every part. By the way, the 5600G and 3600 seem to have lower power consumption, the other recent Ryzens on steroids do spend more at idle. But please don't mix total pc power and cpu power :)
@@OptLab Agree it is somewhat time consuming but i also feel it is a VERY important number we all should know. The AMD shills that keep spreading lies regarding the "efficiency" of AMD need to be called out. I am NOT anti AMD in any way but REAL LIFE facts need to be shown.

i dont get why nearly every review ive seen the a 5800x they can only get it to run at around 4.5GHz stable, with some minor tweaking im able to get my 5800X to all core boost to 4.7GHz, and under ligher workloads like gaming easily 4.9GHz, and i havnt even touched the voltage yet, its all stock settings in the bios. and if you just comment to tell me that its not stable, ive been running it this way for 6+ months and i have multiple weeks of up time usually 2+ weeks before i need to restart. EDIT: so far 4.92GHz stable for over a week now, still stock voltage settings. im gonna get that 5GHz baby.
The platform looks really good but it requires such a lot of investment its virtually a whole new PC.
Well when Intel 14th Gen comes along, that is almost certainly a whole new PC anyway. So once you take the leap on AMD, you're probably going to get more years of upgradeability out of it.
But it should last a lot longer. Saving money in the long run. But you make a good point.

well its not really 65W - even the review shows its closer to 90w ....
65W is heat output, not power consumed. TDP is basically the efficiency rating for electronic devices. 65W is quite efficient.

Why would anyone buy the 7900X Instead of the 7900 ? I don't see any downside
My guess, for those who want the top performance out the box and requires little to no BIOS tweaking would be the case, which has always been the case with X CPUs until ZEN3 came, and X CPUs had more room under the hood to go even further through tweaking.
Looks like AM5 is back to the old ways. X CPUs you get top speed, requires little effort . Non-X you got to either tweak or have a good bin to match an X, or you aren't concerned with top / matching X performance and interested in lower power consumption.

Comprei um Ryzen 9 7900 de um amigo, o processador é novo e ele me vendeu por um preço bacana. Agora quero comprar uma gpu, mas quero que fique bem equilibrado, sabe? Pra que não fique com gargalo. É meu primeiro Pc, então se você puder me recomendar uma placa de vídeo seria de grande ajuda.

Teh processor price doesnt bother me, its teh motherbaords and ram still way overpriced. 200+ doubloons for entry level is not cool.
Not really 65W as my 7600 went to 105W during gaming.

B650 AM5 board with huge price increase is compared to B550 is no go for me any time soon.
That boards should not cost more then $100$ - $120.
With price $200 for cheapest B650 board this is begging of the end of PC gaming.

It's expensive because less and less computers are being sold. My computer is 12 years old and still works fine. Most people have a far more powerful computer than they need.
