    Some of what helped you with coming to a more satisfying conclusion is creating more value contrast with the very dark blue, black, and white. Nice save!

    This is brilliant! Add layers to balance the proportions! Wow!
    I just bought the book and didn’t know about the circle proportions either. TY!

    I keep coming back to this one! Such a great lesson. We often want to attack a blank substrate randomly and intuitively, but ultimately we have to narrow down what's there. Collage, markers, more of one color and less of another (then throw in contrast and composition), but eventually we get there. I think proportion is often a stumbling block - at least for me. Thanks for sharing this "aha" moment.

    I'm a watercolor artist, but have been interested in collage. I appreciate your video on tools that showed how you organize your paper scraps. Would love a video on how you incorporate watercolor into collage. I liked this video because it really shows how if we keep going we can get past the less than great stage to a satisfactory result.

      Thanks for your comment! Great video idea, I’ll write that one down! Yes, my mantra is “Layer it ‘till you love it!” I can ALMOST always get to a point where I can live with the result if I keep pushing and don’t quit…almost always. ;)

    You are an angel! I’ve been making gelli papers and making collage focals. I’ve watched a million CZcams collage videos. I want to make collage, but when I sit down to use what I’ve created I and learned, I still feel insecure. It’s like pulling teeth. I want it to be fun! I think what you’re talking about may be just what I need. I have heard no one address this issue. It seems so important! Already purchased the book and you have a devoted fan. Thank you.

      Thank you! Yes, I am ALWAYS insecure when I sit down to make art. I’ve just accepted it as part of the process and have faith that everything will work out how it’s supposed to. ☺️

    I'm an artist myself, and in fact, i never use the color wheel to make my art. I don't even think that collage should the solution, or to choose colors on the whell randomly. Because i think that the real treasure of an artist, it's his intuition. Because it's sad if you consider to make ugly art and have to find solutions to resolve it. I do believe, that when you follow your intuition, your art would find it way naturally. I've learned to choose colors by my own, even if it don't match with the normal way. If you have difficulty to find your intuitive side, you could try to just lay down and make meditation or relaxation, and to let images come to you. Me i deveeloped my intuitive side, because i'm spiritual person, and i have often images in my mind. But i don't try to copy them exactly, (it's the mistake that ppl often makes), but to take it as a basis for my insipration.
    Art is not rational. Art should come from your soul. So when you choose on a random wheel and need solutions to repair your art, you make art in a too technical or rational way. Just close your eyes, dive in yourself. Don't try to create images by yourself, make a letting go on the expectations, release all your blocages. Just allow yourself to dream and images would come to you. Instead to come from technics. It's not technics that should define your art, but your inner voice.

      @colorfulcollage  Před 4 měsíci

      This paint is called Nicker. It’s a poster paint from Japan. Not sure what I think yet. It’s super saturated, but SO dry on the page that the collage pieces can’t slide around nicely as I’m designing before the glue-down stage….if that makes sense. 😅
