    i LOVE ysaora's energy! you can see how different a mentality that professional competitive athletes have when it comes to having pride and confidence without being defensive. she was so genuinely excited for eugene to score on her and she was really encouraging him to really go for it. i feel like sometimes when pros are in these types of videos where they spar against amateurs they can't help but feel defensive about their area of expertise, but i felt like all she had was genuine enthusiasm to teach and share her love of the sport with the guys

      I do another kind of fencing sport, its a huge difference facing an overall untrained person compared to someone who already is a sports fanatic, especially combat sports. They know how to move and how to adapt the moves you teach them. Also there is an innate understanding of distance as well as trying to hit someone while nit beeing hit yourself. While someone who is just trying to find his legs normally is just a predictable dummy to move around and outmaneuver those people always have an aura of threat and danger the moment you enter their reach.

    You know what would be an epic Olympic sport, kendo. But the All Japan Kendo Federation has no plans to make it one, because they say that if you make it all about winning then it loses its essence. I get that, but kendo matches are wild.

    If you define fencing as "practice with blunted swords," Ysaora is correct that it originated in Ancient Egypt. Modern Olympic fencing originated as practicing (foil) for a duel (with epees). As a fencer, coach, and referee this was a fun intro video. It would be cool if Eugene sticks with the sport, he showed some promise.

    • @ezramatan5233
      @ezramatan5233 Před 3 lety

      Yeah. As a fencer it kinda startled me, épée was never really a sword for “practicing/drills” but originated from dueling. Foil was used for drills instead. I don’t know how she got that wrong, mistakes happen I guess.

    • @Shannon-zp6yz
