    When I started writing music some....20 years ago (!), this would have been the kind of composition I'd listen tto, and then subsequently want to give up because of how complex it sounded compared to my little three-chord ditties (they were ALL i-VI-VII progressions).
    I never knew the stacked fifth voicing was called the Kenny Barron voicing. It's kind of poetic that I learn that now, right as I'm remaking the first track I ever wrote. Your videos hit a sweet spot in my brain, to the tune of: "Hey, this sounds really cool...wow, I actually understand it!"

    Hey Julian. Really enjoying your channel at the moment. When I first started watching a while ago, I was out of my depth, but thanks to practicing between 3 and 6 hours a day for the last 6 months or so, your content has become far more accessible to me. Thank you for sharing so altruistically!
    I notice that you haven't uploaded recently. Will you be uploading another video?
    Once again, many thanks!

      @pablogomez631 Před 2 lety

      Agree. These voicings appear clearly explained in Mark Levine’s book, where perhaps Bradley learned them. They are very effective, though for such a short passage like this, I think Bradley used them too often.

    Good explanation. Approachable. The progression works very well. I wonder, though, whether your main instrument is other than the piano: especially the right hand… it’s placed oddly tilted to the right in general, in many instances there are unnecessary jumps with the ring finger to reach some notes that could be more pianistically played with the pinkie; also, sometimes the index sits over the middle finger… and a couple of strange crossings. Anyway, none of that prevented you from creating a very pretty passage. The harmony is what counts here, of course, and it’s very well done.

    "A stack of fifths in the right hand." Defintely sounds like the Sudnow Method. He'd say, "grab a bunch of notes with the left hand and a bunch of notes in the right hand." Me, I'm left thinking maybe I should stick with horns, where I'm dealing with a single note at a time.
