- The BEST performance of "Emotion Sickness" you will ever see! Live from Melbourne in the summer of 1999. Daniel MURDERS the guitar solo! Please rate video and/or leave comment and I'll keep uploading the BEST of Silverchair. Enjoi!
- Hudba
that "get up" part...
Agreed but for me it’s the guitars. He plays the shit out of this song. The whole performance is next level especially knowing what he was going through at the time. You can see him tweak his head and jaw a few times. For me, this is the best part.
2:24
@@chrishunter7214After that part the crowd who had never heard this song before realised this is next level! And listening to greatness!
I’m still trying to “get up”
It’s been over 24 years
"best performance of emotion sickness"
I agree.
I like how they played it here on Rock in Rio III
Gave me chills!
This was thier best for several songs, def my fav concert of these guys still
@@nocturnallsnake4228 I only prefer the version of melbourne because of the '' GET UP "
@@KMoutaI think you’ll also really like the Get Up at Wave Aid too after the Tsunami and earth quake in Bali, Thailand etc.
And that, kids, is a flawless piece of art, being flawlessly executed.
People forget not just how absolutely massive this band was but how fucking young they were.... how could the poor bastard not become unwell
Daniel is so obviously born to write and play music.
He just emanates creativity....
This is my all time fave live performance, by anyone, ever. Just incredible vocal omg
Agreed, I watch this performance religiously
When I saw/heard them perform Emotion Sickness live in Sydney before this show I nearly fell over. (Didn’t expect this and Anna’s Song) after listening to their first 2 albums. Just imagine expecting them to play Slave (which I love but not on this level) but instead they opened with Emotion Sickness and then Anna’s Song. I think Slave was next.
Loved it but I think this was even better czcams.com/video/IZSFaFV86eE/video.htmlsi=oRM5orzfDg-1DM-B
What do you think of his vocals when he played it here ? czcams.com/video/IZSFaFV86eE/video.htmlsi=oRM5orzfDg-1DM-B
This is such incredibly clean playing for someone singing his heart out at the same time. What an absolute beast of a performance!
And with TMJ (jaw issue) at the time
@@MrZZsharkaI was thinking it was jaw related as well, & not a “tick” as others have thought. TMJ is awful.
possibly one of the greatest live performances ever. HOLY WOW...
2:47 THAT TONE THOUGH!
Love that bit
How can you not get an enormous gulp in your throat watching this performance.
He's pin thin, cheekbones that could cut through glass-the jaw tic that he seamlessly performed with-
Had Daniel not been courageous with going public about the anorexia-I suppose his appearance and mannerisms if at all commented on would have been chalked up to drug dabbling-I mean,David Bowie
seemingly embraced anorexia in his ziggy stardust days-(before the name anorexia even existed)
As a former sufferer-I can say it's appeal isn't understood by many-but there is a sort of euphoria in the midst of the disease. That's why it's so deadly.
Yes-I'm elated to see him in performances where he is clearly healthier and robust. But this heartbreaking one is so emotional and connecting.
Brilliant brilliant soul.
Andrew Murray He also had a type of Arthritis where he was bed ridden for over 6 months and received treatment for it in the U S.
@@MrZZsharka I think he got that after he was cured for anorexia or in the end of it, I may be wrong but I think
instablaster.
This ^^^
And Getup at Wave Aid! The empathy he must have had for the Tsunami victims! This Getup made me cry. Edit:This one czcams.com/video/xtZlnNBHwns/video.html
This is for Silverchair the same as Bohemian Rhapsody is for Queen.....
CLDslash Oliveira ask your mom to pay my guitar
I agree this is Daniel's peak as an artist
His most beautiful song
vdd @Claudio Oliveira mto bom
I don't agree
Great song but not his best
it is, without a doubt the best one of all times
Anybody else written a Rock or Symphonic Rock song this good at 18/19 ?
One 18 year old boy can do this song ... so poetic and beautiful ...
Imagine at this point silver chair could have turned into a progressive legendary rock band! This song is so damn good its genius is so great it fairs well with legendary progression and buildup to that of pink floyds best songs.
Neon ball room did turn them into a great progressive rock band that will live on through time
4:14 to 4:20 "won't you stop my pain?".
It really kind of hurts to hear and see him singing that...
Feels like I am feeling his pain in that moment, just so sincere...
Can imagine! I’m obviously not even him and totally felt it when I sang this song 😳 It’s like it was bringing up my own shit to the surface unrelated to what he was going through, but I guess it was still emotion sickness
it's the little guitar riffs at 2:48 that Daniel plays that really make me shiver. So AWESOME
love his high pitched voice
How can such a great music writer not want to perform live anymore? He has to be devastated, hes between doing something he loves, and something that almost killed him. Id be happy if Dan would reconsider giving life to the band again. Dont tour, dont perform live....just give us more brilliant music
2:45 that basedrum along with the pick up switch into a awesome guitar part. Cool as hell!
Can only watch daniel perform this song in this state, for some reason his today state and playing this song just doesn't appeal to me. But obviously his new album does appeal to me cause that is his current consciousness and it's most recent. Have you ever thought each chair album resembles a certain chapter of daniels life, Something he can reflect on. Talented man!
4:00 this is so real, it is just beyond words
I used to watch this concert over and over on VHS. This is my first time hearing and watching with quality earbuds. Shit still slaps.
Gosh! Daniel must have been in so much pain. I always cry when I watch this performance
i like his facial expressions and moves. When i look at him it feels like he is the only one on stage. There is no crawd, there is no lights, only Daniel and his music, his emotions. Briliant;)
Hearing this again after over 20 years.
Better than ever. Fucking amazing.
MY GOSH!! I can't never get enough of this beautifully touching MASTERPIECE!!! 🖤 After so many years of not having heard this because it use to hurt so, SO much; now I can't get enough!!!
This is my special corner of CZcams. There are scores of great Silverchair live performances but I’d say this one in Melbourne 99 is the stunner. Especially emotion sickness. My heart kind of just drops.....lisa
This band live is freaking amazing. WOW
This by far the BEST version of emotion sickness ever!...i wish my mother woulda just flew me to australia to see this ...sure i was 11 but i missed the best concert ever!
It's absolutely beautiful every time I listen
This version gives me chills
One of my favorite bands of all time... amazing performance!
thnx
I remember I recorded this on VHS and MY DAD RECORDED OVER IT!!! I used to watch this every night too.
I have yet to find a band that has a better live song with so much real emotion. Amazing
Bob Dylan watch?v=brNby5IFDnA... I'm going to assume you listen to popular songs played on the radio, and don't venture beyond what is served to you by shit radio stations to explore the blues or folk which is truly emotional in a transcendental and sublime way. If not I apologize in advance.
Mark G check out the band Tool :) P S Daniel Johns was wearing a TOOL t shirt during the American version of the Tomorrow video clip. Was a big fan
Tool “Push It” Alternative version. But just make sure you’re sitting down :)
Hurt by Nine Inch Nails.
Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Slipknot
Oh god this brought me to tears!!! I would give ANYTHING to be able to see Silverchair live in the 90s!! They're soo brilliant
taylor same man same
Chuck Taylor Same here, saw them live in Australia 13 times and know all their lyrics as well :)
Ignoring every indication that Daniel is off his chops , the jaw movement, the swaying, slightly more sweaty than required....it's brilliant....he could perform this in a paper bag under water and it would still be a masterpiece ❤️

In a way...yes.
Faraway Stables is one of their best shows...that was when the band was at their apex, imo.
But...while that performance of this song was technically the best in musical terms....this performance is so much more raw and well...emotional.
It's the sort of song that really has to be performed from a brutally honest place for it to work.
Dan was clearly raw and wounded at this time in his life...and the music echos that.
he's legendary in my book.
def one of the best performances.
fav silverchair song..fav performance..just EPIC..all I can say...Daniel is just genius when it comes to pouring emotions into songs..I cry when I hear this version..esp during the "get ups"...*tear* :/
Best live performances of "Emotion Sickness". 👍
I've never seen a rock band doing an amazing performance like Silverchair! So dedicated in all aspects. INCREDIBLE!👏🏻👏🏻
By far the best live performance of this glorious song I've seen on youTube.
In my view their best song. I know people change but I just think the stuff he does now is a joke. This song is about something really meaningful.
My favourite as well.
MsYogaGrrrl true people change-but it not that he is growing older-it's thar his persona is polar opposite from his youth.
(Honestly,he's still a young man-so maybe it's a phase)
Along with being a prodigal genius -it was the humble, soft spoken and otherworldly beauty that made him so mesmerizing.
His songs were clearly autobiographical-and also connected him to fans on a spiritual level.
He was pure and honest.
So now he wants to desecrate that image? Trying to sing a sex song while trying to look sexy by writhing around all grease up in a sandstorm? He brings to mind that awful one hit wonder Robin Thicke. That's not a compliment. It's a disappointment.
The handful of interviews I've seen of him recently were awkward to watch. He was adamant that he's the happiest he's.ever been. But there's a lost look in his eyes.
Could be depression creeping up again, untreated-or worse self medicated.
Of course I'm just a faceless commenter speculating about someone I feel that I know-but of course I don't.
Be well Daniel. Your gift was to expose your vulnerability through art and made so many people happy.
4:25 - it seems like he was holding himself under a lot o pain, just waiting to get that last scream out before collapsing. God, I love this man! *.*
to me that's the coolest era of Silverchair, really amazing! Such great songs, such a great guitar player and singer and frontman, legendary almost
This song sounds so much better live, than the recorded version
wow, after so many years still so powerfull... brings a lot of memories and really touches the soul (if there's any of it still left)
+MrsStryer Timeless song in my opinion. After all these years, it still floors me. Great live performance. And personally, I think Neon Ballroom was Silverchair's magnum opus.
+Lachlan Evans Could't agree more :) And actually, I'm listening to NB at the moment... This kind of music doesn't grow old. Cheers!
who´s here crying in 2021 after hearing "who´s Daniel Johns" on Spotify?
I know they don’t even talk anymore and have their own issues but man, it would be so amazing for Silverchair to come
Together one last time and perform “Emotion Sickness”. I’m not greedy- they don’t hAvE tO perform other songs 😂
So interesting that he has recently come out and said he has an anxiety disorder, when he goes out there and absolutely kills it on stage in this era
Glen McCormick this was twenty years ago, dude.
As the other person stated, this was over twenty years ago, but he had also opened up about his anxiety problems in the early 2000's after the release of Diorama. It's not a new out of the blue cry for attention, these things can progress worse over the years. Just because someone has a disorder, doesn't mean they can't perform well. Most of the suffering is invisible, and it's the thoughts and ruminations that go on internally that create turmoil and discomfort. He killed it on stage in this era, while also battling with Anorexia and Depression. Though for obvious reasons it is visible he was suffering an ED, he performed magnificently, nonetheless.
Slc as performance ao vivo de Daniel John's são incríveis,o peso ,as afinações da guitarra 🎶🎸🎧
effing awesome. My favorite part is when he starts singing Get Up.
Best part of the song.. SO strong.
It at first sounds like he's calling to himself for help, then screaming
"Won't you stop my pain" he not only sounds, but looks like he's crying in agony
The emotion in this performance is beyond word for explanation
God damn I miss my band. This performance was incredible. Thank you for posting.
I cried
one of the few version that he sings "get up"
melts...I was there.....Love this band to death......Love daniel Johns
2019.....and STILL undefeated. 💯
Sidenote. I'm gonna start a GoFundMe for one more silverchair show. They say it can't be done....but I say it's hard to turn down twelve million dollars split three ways.
Also....I mean....since this WAS my idea....I think it's only fair that....I'm guaranteed a ticket and get to create the 30 song setlist for the evening.
Byyyyeeeeeee! 🖐😂
Undefeated... I don't know about your statement. I think they fell off during half this album and the rest of their career.
Still fucking mind blowing to think of the immense talent. They were literal fetuses during the entirety of this band’s career. Unbelievable. From “Get up” on, this song vibrates my entire soul. I fucking love Silverchair.
If Daniel played live concerts on zoom by from his living room, I would literally pay to see that alone
Holy shit! This is friggin EPIC !!!
WOW - What an amazing performance - This is like the ONLY song i've ever loved by Silverchair
had a dream last night i was playing this song :P
wish i could
4:02 to 4:35 i get chills every time
I wish I wasn't 2 years old when this happened:(
Esses caras são muito talentosos.
D+
2:32 to 3:17 - Pure GOOSEBUMPS!
It still blows my mind that Johns came up with such amazing music at only 19 years of age. Frogstomp and Freakshow were good. But Neon Ballroom is where Silverchair truly blossomed and defined a unique style of their own. After Diorama it's definitely their best album! They'll always be my favourite band!
Fiquei toda arrepiada nos 04:01 minutos da musica.. ahsuahs'
An amazing performance!
4:02 YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damm🤘❤
The Best Show of Silverchair I've Seem!
On my 16 yers
Fockin´ yeah
AMAZINGLY GENIUS!!!!!
@GGiblet You're actually absolutely right about that! Anyone who claims to be a true fan of this magnificent angelic then-boy should know what state he was in at the time, any true fan would NEVER post such hurtful, nasty and uneducated comments! This video is a very definition of true beauty inside and out
Daniel is a great guitar player
The drumeer is so fockin´good!
Absolutely awesome!!
essa voz é magnifica , amo a voz dele
po tinha um vhs desse show na época, mto bom ver de novo
Thank you for so much happiness ❤️❤️❤️❤️✨☺️
their best song
this song and song "untitled" from Godzilla OST are the best songs of Silverchair...and above all , are THE CHANGING SONG...from raw sounds of first 2 album ( That I love too ) from another level of indie music!! LOVE THEM!!
nah this is when silverchair started to transition to well straight up bad. this songs cool and shit but the album marked the end for the band really.
Its funny. when you look at this concert the lead singer is stil a teen, a child i you will, but when you look at the performance of this song at the Faraway Stables in 2003 you see some kind of ripped demigod on stage. This guy went through an awesome transformation!
+Jostipi Ya its called puberty
+Nick Busch He had already gone through puberty by then. That and he had anorexia problems around the time of Neon Ballroom that he had since gotten over.
Yeah he was incredibly ill in ‘99
He’s hot as fuck like this era. You ever see the video for Ana’s Song? Literally the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen. He got weird after the age of 21, and now he’s unrecognizable.
@@PollyGammy It's not normal to be attracted to a starved and malnourished body. He was always attractive, still is great for his age, but calling his anorexic state--where he had come close to death--his most attractive, is incredibly off. I hope you recognise that.
the Sao Paulo show in '03 has Newcastle '99 FADED 😈
amazing !
Daniel has an amazing voice
yes and i think this concert is one of their best
Fuck that guitar work is fuckin rampant when he goes.
SENSACIONAL
It's "Won't you stop my pain", per Silverchair's official website.
Ahh, that hits the spot...
best song of Silverchair,Daniel Johns have a beautiful voice, amazing performance, the ´´get up``part is fucking incredible!!
Finally i got this cd yesterday =)
I think even Maynard from Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer would have been impressed. Especially written by an 18 year old at the time.
Kevin Smith The guitarist from Tool was actually a fan of Silverchair and tried to model his tone off of Frogstomp on one of the albums
Muito bommmmmmmmmmm exelenteeee!!!
@GGiblet Thank you, love :) It is sooo good to know that there are compassionate, intelligent people like yourself out there! The ones who recognise the truth amidst all the rubbish!
You are lovely and I'd like you to know that Dan really was/is the way you imagine him to be
Porra !!!
eu amo essa música sz sz !!!
I feel EXACTLY like this. Friends have been and are dying. Everyone I was close to is dead. I have CPTSD & The was abused as a little girl. And I'm the Last Damn person who deserves what is being done to me now damnit.
