    If you are sentenced to Federal Prison it isn't for jaywalking or unpaid parking tickets! There is such a straightforward solution to not be uprooted from your communities, language, and "healing"............DON'T COMMIT CRIMES!

      @@Nabee_H I am not saying they shouldn't be face justice, I'm just saying their unique situation should be taken into account.
      A crime is a crime and a punishment should be a fair punishment. But something as simple as meeting with a probation officer might be a slap on the wrist for some people but for them it might mean travelling extreme distances and bring these people much more hardship than someone else.
      I think it is a good thing the justice system makes some accommodations for them while still having them do their time but that is just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

    I certainly understand the, “Don’t commit a crime” point of view, but that does not mean that the federal government should not consider how incarceration in a system designed for descendants of Europeans who live in the south would affect Inuit prisoners. I do not think anyone is suggesting that Inuit should not go to prison for serious crimes. The issue is how they experience prison. You do not want incarceration to create hardened antisocial attitudes that will cause a person to become more dangerous and to commit more crime after release.

    With a little over 200 criminals in the Inuit community, Canada can't build 1 prison in the north?

    • @DozerfleetProd
      @DozerfleetProd Před 21 hodinou

      Prison logistics are harrowing. Sending someone to that far north to work them out means having a very narrow sorting pool. Even to the point that they may have to import workers from other countries to find enough labor crazy enough to take on the task.
      If Canada seems reluctant to do that, I can tell you right now, as someone living in Florida where a sizeable chunk of the construction and landscaping work is done by Mexicans and Hondurans: it gets messy, really fast!
      Add in the atrocious quality of healthcare, and Canada has plenty of reason to not adopt Florida's model.
      As for getting the project done at a decent time: much of southern Canada has a Michigan mentality on labor. You're not getting a decent Inuit prison up there near Greenland when everyone thinks like a unionized Detroit man.
