Back again with another action packed Explained video for ya. This time around I'm discussing all things handlebars. I truly believe bars are the most important part of your bike, as they're your direct connection to your bike and each degree matters. I'd rather change my frame than my bars-real talk. So yeah, let's jump in to the nitty gritty of BMX handlebars before running through some specs on 15 or so bars from various companies thanks to Source BMX.
Check out the massive stock of handlebars (and everything else) that Source BMX carries:

dugan 30 inch rise is the way to go
This is exactly what the community needs to bring people into the sport, and the perfect guy for the job.
Dammit Fudger you should really do sleep apps. This shit was relaxing af.
Haha
Haha so true!
Hahaha. Sorry and thanks??
@@OurBMX it was definitely a compliment lol
I like taller bars. I run a BMX handlebar on my commuter bike, it's a 90s 26er chromoly frame that I adapted 650b/27.5 wheels on it. The BMX handlebars are great for a MTB frame, cause you have a more upright position and comfort and @ the same time you have a lot of control
I also have a small ape hanger bar on my cruiser bicycle, it works really well for me
When i started racing my bars was 7.75" rise that come on my bike then i got some S&M slam bars in 8" rise then went to volume regal beagle bars in red then animal bikes Bob scerbo bars then Standard Bykes strip bars in 9" rise now i'm on Fiend Reynolds bars in 9.25 rise that are 774g / 1.71lbs and i'm 6 foot 4" tall aswell 👍
Bob/Skapegost bars ftw. But I’m currently riding 4 year old GT 4 piece with the 8.25” rise I think, so comfortable.
Thank you Fudger I love my Hoder High bars I’m 6’3” so they where perfect size
"The Dark Ages" with small bars
These are my favorite videos. Very informative and I always learn something new.
I remember wanting my dad to weld a crossbar onto my Huffy.
I love these explaining videos!
I just saw someone with old power lite bars yesterday and totally forgot about how much the grip handles were bent forward. Crazy how many different styles bmx has had over the years. Sick video Ryan 🤘🏽
Haha, I had a pair of those and loved them...until they broke. Thanks Mike!
Great video! Thank you for doing this for the bmx community! I live in Louisville Kentucky by the Source warehouse. Great company!
Loved my fly pantera bars 15 years ago
The push-up tip is a great way to explain it. If you fire out a few push-ups where do your hands naturally land on the ground. Make your bars that wide too.
I love this video! More! You are such a wonderful voice and host for the world of freestyle bmx
Nothing beats the Hoffman bars, can't wait to make a build one day with those bars so I can feel like gods who rode them :P
What's good about them?
Good video!)))
Thanks for content 🤗
Been trying to figure out what the best rise would be for me so this helps a lot
currently have the Animal Foursome and Cult Quattro at both 9 in height. Just like the look of 4 piece bars. Also owned the Safari bars 3 years ago, swapped it with the Quattro that I currently have.
I need to listen to this before bed and absorb information versus watching promo vids that keep me up. Nice series, very helpful!
Great video! I want to add that as you move the bars back, the upsweep flattens. My Cult bars when lined up with the fork actually go down a little. I tend to like more upsweep so when I pull the bars back they are close to flat. Something to think about. I might try moving them forward like you said to see if I like it. Thanks for all the info!
…..exactly. Basic geometry lol. I keep the vertical plane of my bars inline with my forks. With that degree back the “upsweep” dimension flattens out.
The new RASP 4 piece bars from Premium Bmx have knurling where the grips go to stop throttle grip i thought was a good idea 👍🔥🚲💨
I love your soothing voice Fudgie ❤️☺️🎯👊🏽any tutorial you add I’ll watch homie🙌🏽all love
Hahah, thanks Eric.
Good shit man! Really enjoyed this.
Fudger does the best at reviewing BMX parts, from grips to forks. He is really informative and gives the details. Shout out Ryan Fudger!!!!
These vids are great Ryan... and more handy than you know! 🙏
I`ve change de s&m skyhigh from 9 to 9.5 and the diference is it`s harder for me to do flat 360. manuals, hops and others things is easier. But i didnt cut down the bars, love it!
I got the sky highs too i had to cut like 2inches off each side 😆
As someone who learned barspins last summer I have to say the matt ray bars feel great compared with a few others but when I learned trucks I had an easier time on shadow bars. Do with that info what you will
Really needed the info thanks
Rebars geometry is perfect
I’d like to see reviews of tires or lever. This was informative for sure.
Incredible content! Thank you!
Enjoyed this, great content. Any chance on doing a frame how to?
This was great Fudger! Learned more about my bars even. I got the BSD Safari right now, had no idea the exact specs. So right on!
Have you done/can you make, a video this sorta in depth, with bmx frames?
Excellent content! Cheers from Mexico.
Yooo the cup holder bar is fire tho
Great tech info
I ride the 10" Kink Hulk bars with a Cult Salvation v4 stem (32mm rise) and a Merritt High Top headset cap. My bars are higher than Charlie Crum. LOL. But it helps with my lower back (i get herniated discs real easy). As goofy as it looks since I'm only 5'9 the height really does feel soooo much better.
perfect vid!!
Would like to see one on seats and seatposts 🤘
Awesome and thorough video
The fit savage bar dan Conway sig 9.85 all time fav. The new brocs are close in geo so they good too
Awesome video !!!!
Not going to lie, over the years I've ALWAYS ran a very slight Chicago bars setup, even racing.
Exelent video .
Wheels/rims would be awesome!
I remember my first aftermarket bars were dk racing bars. Did i race? No. Didn’t take long before i switched to some animals. thanks for the vid fudger
Can you discussed about bar stem combo that usually had in flatland before? Why it not recommended?
Bottom bracket heights getting higher is what made me move up a little in height.
i like the dugan bar thumbnail
does 8.65" and 9" rise bars make any differences ? cause i have those two size bars and i compared it. it just very very small differences. well i think there is no differences ?
7" - 8" bars were hell on older bmxers back now I'm glad I have 9.5" Hoders bars
S&M 🇺🇸
How tall are you
@@vl995 6ft
@@nightwolf7317 oh wow. I'm 5.8 and was thinking about going from a 9" to a 9.5" but I'm not sure on my 20.60 frame
@@vl995 I'd say get 9.5" since your frame is 20.60
@@nightwolf7317 how come ?
Back in the early 2ks i ran a pair of haro slim bars. Tiny ass 2pc bars i cut to oblivion. But man you could throw them bars like nothing.
Do something about crank styles, wheels calibration and the pros and cons of brakes or no brakes.
I just got back into riding and I'm really enjoying the new yet familiar recreational and positive activity/lifestyle. I grew up riding bikes and doing a little street and dirt in the mid-late 90's and I also skateboarded then just skated for 20+ years until a couple of years ago when Dylan Rieder passed away and I went to jail and after I got out I have even done a tic-tac or anything. My big brother came by and asked if I wanted a bike and I sure did because I'm tired of sitting around the house (mostly working on guitars and effects) in my spare time. Hopefully I can get my legs back and get back to skating as well. The bike is a fit bike with an Eastern rim on the front with a vans tire and the crank wheel is (shit idk lol) with another none matching vans tire, Stock fit 4 piece crank and chain and stock fit pedals. Not sure of the bars but I'm used to the short style bars from the dark ages. I'm getting adjusted to them but I'm still in favor of slightly shorter grip lengths. Anyway, I don't have many people to discuss my passions and creative outlets so I chose to do so here. Thanks for the refresher course and updated information.
very nice, next time maybe frames? It would be nice to hear more information about titanium parts also :))
Forks are next, but frames are coming soon!
S & M Slam Bars 🤘
remembering my haro 4 pc bar back in the late 90s and the notion that 2pc if for racing only, and 4pc for freestyle
I still love the look of the Kneesaver bars, though. The mid-school stuff just had an unbeatable style. I'm waiting for Haro to get the Lineage Kneesavers back in stock, they've raised them up some which is nice.
So I got 10" bars on a fronload and that would be the same as 9" on a topload right?
This is like BMX ASMR lol
I still ride 8.5 rise bars... feels good to me. Maybe I’m old...
Lol im 5 ft and ride 9s should I get smaller bars
My hops are insane with 8.5s I can fly lol I switch it up from 8.5 to 9s tho
@@patriotslop im 5ft should I get 8's
@@1fiddysquiddy386 ride what feels right to you... I’m 5.4 and 8.5 feels right to me... though I have another bike with 8 inch bars. I ride em both though the 8.5s feel best
@@funfalife1471 👌 thanks
I’m looking for a new pair of bars. I have the old school volume Kris Bennett bars on my bike still. Is there any bars that are similar to the Bennett bars?
28:22 Thats called Source bmx live chat 👍
Is it possible to get freecoaster Vs cassette hub pros/cons in depth video? Thanks.
Only my opinion obviously. The oversized clamp is good on paper as it gives them a bigger area to clamp hence wont move on impact. On the other hand the typical set already holds fairly well an usually only moves if you have stripped something along the way or a big impact, so moving with impact atleast in my head seems better as it gives way instead bashing your teeth out, your bars would move instead.
Nice point!
Great job as always Ryan. You omitted one thing though, with the 1" clamping area, those bars and stems are not interchangeable with the conventional equipment so you must run both if going oversize.... Otherwise, super useful and informative..
Damn, is that not in there? It was definitely brought up, but I must have cut it thinking that it was explained elsewhere in the video. My bad!
@@OurBMX you kinda touched on it but i am sure there are people out there buying one without necessarily realizing they need the other. Anyway, you are killing it with OurBmx so thank you from a bmxer for these product vids, Unclicked (always be feeble talk to me) and all the other great content you and Jeff, Dennis et al turn out. Peace from London-UK.
15:34
It would be nice if you could do a product spotlight on seatpost or seats or aftermarket frames or tires or pegs ❤😊🤘😁
So s&m perfect 10s and 11s are super strong then 🤔
Will you guys have an app soon? Would ditch my DIG app if you guys would have one hahaha
We don't have plans for one...I feel like that train has passed us by. But, assuming you're on an iphone, if you open up safari and go to ourbmx.com, just hit the share button at the bottom and click "add to home screen" and the site will be one click away. :)
Hey Fudger isn't the height of the bar measured center to center of the pipe? Not bottom to top as you say ;) Keep up the great work!
I've honestly seen conflicting info and measuring center-to-center for the average rider would be difficult... You're right though, knowing specifically how it's measured should've been included, but thankfully it's not super important as most people just run off the spec sheet and not measure the bars themselves.
I want to see a video of Ryan riding a bike!!!
I am new at bmx, I saw that rider Sean Burns killing it and I like the 4 pcs bars look so I went to the shop and fell in love with the deadman bars 4 pcs in 9 I have 3 months riding and the bars already crack on the middle tube I am so disappointed because it was expensive and I saw this pro guy riding it in a crazy way I wouldn't so It should have hold my best trick is 180 and Im starting the 360, never had a major fall, next time I will get a two pieces made in usa. How about the S&M Hoder in 9,5?
Oh another topic; proper wheel size to tire/tube size ratio and maybe crank, spoke and hub specs
U do justice by our people
Do a fork video next need to find out what my next pair are
That's next...got em here already.
Just give me a 4 pice bar 😂
I need a job like yours you do a great job tho.
Thanks!
Always buy S&M bars though.
Big facts
Odyssey though
All I could afford is stolen, rant, or fiction … broke Bmx 😅
No Ruben or t1 classics?!?
Still rocking the milk bars✌️I'm 42 lol
You say bars, forks and frame is the parts you should not save your money on, but what about cranks?
Cranks are important and will definitely hurt if they snap, but you won't be going face-first into the ground when they let go.
I thought the same thing but I'd much rather snap a crank than forks or bars
@@mikedevlinbmx7208 Yeah that makes sense. A solid front wheel is also a priority then.
@@OurBMX ssooooo true, i snaped cranks and just scratches, y bent a fork and almost broke my nose...
So it makes me wonder about the gt/Dyno bars that have three pieces.
how bout bars with clamped crossbars, like renthals and other motorbikes...? I think Redline did a set of these way back.
Could you do forks or wheels explained?
Forks are next. :)
@@OurBMX NIce
27:29 Can you do tyres next Ryan ?
Forks are next. I'm honestly dreading tires because I'm gonna have to get them inflated on rims, but it'll happen eventually.
Could you do frames next time?
Took me a while to edit this one and we've already got forks lined up for the next video, but I'll push for frames on the following vid.
Sunday has an awesome warranty on all parts. Not my cup of tea though
I love how 2 years ago 9.5" was considered behemoth. 😂 Now we are at 11+
So for bar position he recommends in line with the floor
That’s pretty normal these days, yeah. But you should always do what’s comfortable for you. 🙌
Hey thanks for the like! I'm gonna give it a try on my bike. Cuz while I think esthetically in line with the forks looks better, the in line with the floor does give much needed room and have the bars not so close to my body. 🤔
@@OurBMX word up my guy! So imma try in line with the floor and give it a spin and see what I think. Thanks Our BMX, always helping out 👍
elf blast bars all day
❤🧡❣💕💞
Like 33. Boa tarde!
8:13 heh you said doo doo ..... had to sorry 😐
fork or frame next
Forks are actually next. Got 16 of em sitting next to me. 😖
@@OurBMX i hope odyssey f-zero is in the batch
Live in the now , it’s 2021 dude
I filmed this last year though...it takes a long time to build up the motivation to edit a video of me talking for a half hour.
Im only 5' 7 and just do small ledge shit, you think butted tubing should last me about as long as straight gauge?
You'll be good either way, just be sure to swap those things out if they last over a year or two. As George French said, t's all about cycles and dissipating energy with bars, so even though you may not be riding big stuff, you're probably letting your bike go a lot and it's taking weird bounces and odd hits way more often compared to a park rider who rarely falls. All those hits add up over the years and one day, if you don't switch them out occasionally, your bars let go doing something small...
Hoder bars are the bees knees
10:57 I've had the same frame and forks for 5 years. Watchu talkin bout. Pedals, chains and the rest of the drivetrain though... oh boy
Eh. I mean, yeah it'd hurt if any part of your bike broke, but frame/fork/bars are crucial and can be catastrophic when they finally let go. Personally, I don't ride a single part longer than three years and I don't give parts away...I just think, eventually, someone is gonna get hurt.
@@OurBMX that's a fair point, I should also point out I ride kinda light and also don't weigh much haha I also don't give parts away because I like hanging them up
It's a marketing ploy. That or just shows how poor parts are now, too much heat treatment and too little material. The old parts never used to magically blow out, you'd almost always end up just bending them severely before any fractures took place. Chains are a funny one, micro drive killed chain longevity, and now there's no option for anything but 25/9. 48h wheels, all gone. I could moan for days :P xD
@@eskimo4130 I kinda feel that way too. A lot has changed over the years, some not all for the best. I've got a 30t sprocket and I still get asked why it's so big haha, and don't even get me started on free coasters lol
@@AllDayBikes Do tell why you dislike coasters :)
I love my coasters personally, but they're terrible designs, always breaking/ needing attention with no spares available. I avoided them for a long time, people always telling me to get one, gave in and got one several years ago. While it opened up my riding, they cause havoc with 4 pegs, and brakes, always having to service my bike. But i have a spare bike for when i'm lazy :D
Thankfully i stocked up on some midschool parts that i couldn't bare to be without. Lack of narrow tires (in UK) is also annoying as i don't have any more spare.
I understand why manufacturers sell for the majority, and take the routes they do, but these days because most brands don't supply what i want i don't support them through clothes and dvd purchases either, not that these are really available here anyway. Just a sign of how times change i guess :)
You said replace the forks every few months, but Sunday has a lifetime warranty. So, shouldn't we just keep using them till they fail and get them replaced for free !??
The hospital bill you’ll pay when your five year old forks break will be more than a couple new pair of forks. And less painful.
More rise is more leverage. Easier manuals...
What gets me is dudes ride with 3 inches of bar sticking out because they ride with their hands so close to the bend. So why not cut the excess bar you aren't touching off? Throwing bars would be easier as well as x -up rides.
That’s just cheating any actual rider will tell you that you can cut some off but if you’re pushing less that 26 inches even 27 you’re a clown lol no pro rider does that I promise you
@@glockiR What's wrong with
Because like he said earlier, ride whatever you want. Also consider, if you cut them down, you only have that one hand position. (width) Some riders feel more comfortable doing some tricks hands close, and cruising around in a wider position.
@@eskimo4130 it’s just consider cheating or cheap maneuver name any pro rider and I promise you they just don’t ride below 27 , it’s one of those things that people know you shouldn’t do cause it would be cheesing thru tricks idk it’s really not that big of a deal but everyone ik doesn’t go below that from my local skate park friends and every pro rider that actually has respect for most the community infact I would be surprised if there were any pro riders that do ride that short of a width and if you do find one 100 percent guaranteed there’s people flooding the comment with why are his bars so short and giving him crap and isn’t really respected as a rider but then again it really isn’t that big of a deal only if you really like scrutinizing every pros style (sorry for the long response lol ) but this is just from my point of view and how I’ve seen riders and all my friends so feel free to ride with whatever your comfortable with
@@glockiR That's fair enough. During the midschool years, 25" bars were pretty standard, along with
