Wow this is super impressive! Good luck, Norway! My favorite for 2024 so far, cheers from 🇺🇦! 💚🇸🇯
Ukraine has the perfect song, and Norway has the second perfect song. Together we'll score well!
Ukraine and Norway at the moment are miles better than all the other songs selected combined. Both are certainly top 5 contenders.
Oh, have to check out Ukraine. I love that we are sending Gåte though. They will do well, I think. Keiino was good too, but in the end we chose to send our norwegian soul.
Gåte = Riddle, Ulveham = Wolf skinwalker. And the instrument is a nøkkelharpe (Key harp), it’s Norwegian/Swedish. It’s a 1000 year old tale. The song is about a girl who was cursed by her stepmother to live in the forest as a wolf. One day she sees her stepmother in the woods and eats her, and she was pregnant, so as she drinks her brother’s blood, the curse is lifted. «Never would I be whole and well, until I got to drink my by brother’s blood».
it's really cool to bring old nordic mythology and stories into eurovison, wish we did anything similar at any point in sweden hahaha
Not sure I agree on the translation. In this case Gåte is a name and that throws things off a bit. As many words in Norwegian they have different meanings depending on the context. Gåte in the forklore context would probably better be translated to a mystery or even enigma.
@@willewiking98 Sweden should definitely go with Swedish once again. Yeah, you guys have a strong music industry with bunch of bands and performers who have become successful internationally singing in English. But there's no one other country performing in Swedish (well, we in Finland can also have Swedish language performers but rikssvenska has its own flow and pronunciation compared to finlandssvenska) so it would be cool to hear that distinct vibe and sound. I've listened to Loreen performing in Swedish and that sounds cool. "Fångad av en stormvind" is probably my favorite entry from you. The English version of that song is not quite the same. Loreen's Euphoria was also cool though. But would love to hear some Swedish again.
This could seriously win
Absolutely no chance
@@marko_b6absolutely yes please
Seriously not. it will get a couple of points from a few of the eastern european countries.
Haha fun to see ESC fans comment about things they have no clue about. The majority of people voting only watches the Eurovision finale. And this will easily get a lot of jury points.
This definitely got a good chance of winning. Let’s see if it happens.
@@kjetilandre i will make sure to reply to this comment in may, after it didnt win
This is a possible winner - thought that the moment I saw it and then it just got better and better. Can't wait to see this at Eurovision.
Intriguing, captivating, epic! Raw, authentic and breathtaking. Best entry from Norway in ages :)
Raw, authentic, breathtaking. I agree!
I love this! There’s something very ancient and organic in this, her singing. Winner for me! Greetings from Finland! 🇫🇮
As a Norwegian, I’m so happy we sent gåte❤
12 points from Finland! 🇫🇮❤🇳🇴
❤
❤
Kiitos Suomi Norjasta! Fingers crossed Finland will keep doing well after Käärijä’s smashing result!
@@languistand Cyan Kicks is the option for Finland (also Sara)
One can describe the vocals, the buildup, the tones, stagin but you cant describe the feeling. I totally get so carried away and i litterally can't describe it. Its like a spell. I can see Ulveham as winner!
I think the led overlay may be because there are no led screens at mgp, so at eurovision they can put that behind them. I think the images actually complimented the song well. My favourite was the ice timelapse melting
Mine too ❄️
I liked the waterfall going upward, underlining how she, with her own strong will, are able to turn back time and lifting the curse. Making the impossible happen.
The stage in Malmo will be innovative in that there is no background - it will be in-the-round meaning you will always see some section of the audience when looking at the stage. Producers need to be creative to really make their acts pop on screen.
@@eurofansf isn't there a large LED at the back?
This was so moving, hearing this for the second time in this video. Got chills!
I don't know if they can win in may, but I'm very very happy. It's my favorite song for the moment and It's a surprise how the people are receiving. Greetings from Spain
Gåte is just amazing, fantastic power and energy. The voice from Mother Earth! ❤️ Beautiful Gunhild - this is what Eurovision (the world) needs right now! 12 points 🥇
The instrument at the beginning is called a Nyckelharpa which have roots in Sweden from the middle ages.
As in winning 🇳🇴 entry Nocturne 1995! 😊
This instrument is called a Swedish kvinnaböske
A small roundish piece from the horn family
Inherited from the Vikings
Just make something up, no one will know!
Nøkkelharpe - key harp was also used in Nocturne 1995. Old Norwegian as well.
We have to be smart and send a nøkkelharpe to Sweden since it is your national instrument.
But it is also Norwegian and which country it really originates from is a folk instrument debate i am not qualified for.
No matter how many times I listen to the song (and it's been A LOT till now) - I always get goosebumps. This is why I love Eurovision. I get to know bands like Gate. Bands, that will stay on my playlist forever with all their music 💚
I got chills when watching it as well, so moving
This is so beautiful..! Ethnic amd rock and opera and folk and pop and. Love the Nordic energy and language and fantasy..! Bravo Norway. This will definitely be popular on the North
My winners! 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴
I loved this! My winner so far.
my fave so far ❤ love from Portugal
this is definitely unique and catchy enough to place in the top 3 at esc. might even win🔥 happy for our neighbors🇸🇪🫶🏼🇳🇴
It’s not gonna win. Eaea was the same style and people hated it it.
@@EclipseHighroller well you never know.. sometimes an unexpected act can win :)
Appreciate the entry and the ancient story behind the song but to me its not catchy. Not my cup of tea, sorry. Good luck though
@@esc1074we really dont care if it does not win because we are so proud of Gåte they have been doing this for 20 years, are really popular here in Norway and speaks to the Norwegian soul.
So this year we are showing everybody this is Norway and we dont care what others think.
Gåte are amazing
@@susannradal9303 Fair enough! Different people different taste. Enjoy Eurovision
I congratulate Norway for sending their real traditional song written in Norwegian. We need more of this, not only watching a musical performance but also learn about other culture through that performance. I hope Sweden could learn from you instead of coming up with generic pop songs
Yeah i think its very special that we Norwegians have a song in Norwegian this time but its not my cup of tea but i bet we wil get atleast 10th place😃
Gåte were the right winners. Superiour ahead of the others. The right win.
Yes, if you want ESC results, and placements as you got in the 70,s
Can’t wait to see what they do in the bigger Malmö stage with LEDs 🤩
The "screaming" is "kulokk", tradditionally how the maidens called in the cows from the contryside back in the day. She singing about how her evil stepmother was so jealous of her that she cast a spell on her making her into a sword, needle and horse for the people in the kingdom to use. Then she turns her into a lone wolf to live alone in the forrest. And the only way she can break the spell is to drink her brothers blood. It is based on a 1000 year old folklore. In the end she eats her stepmother and it is interpreted that she was pregnant, therefore she also drank her brothers blood and bruke the spell. Ulveham means wolf pelt 😉
😲
Poor brother...
Yes... I know. Alot of our old fairytales were quite bloody and macabre. With witches, trolls and other creatures 😉
It is inspired by how the maidens would call the cows back from pasture at night, so they could be milked. «Kulokk» simply means «cow call». The animals were taken to a different pasture up in the mountains during summer and a maiden would stay in a little cabin there where she would make cheese etc. and take care of the animals. And she would have her own kulokk which she used to get them back for milking.
Wow this is definitely the vibe I got! I keep telling everyone that it sounds and looks like a dark Norwegian fairytale.
You are watching the semifinal version on the small stage, not the final from Trondheim
Yepp, this is the semi final, the final is even better!
@@the_oslovianBest to not show the best version of now, then their performance in Malmö will exceed their expectations even more ;)
I actually really like the nature images, gives it an authenticity flavour
I like how you changed your mind from ignoring this piece of art to liking it.
Also, I chuckled at your comment "Girl is giving birth to music!" while the underlying lyrics of this ecstatic moment were about the maid/wolf killing her pregnant stepmother and thus drinking the blood of her unborn half-brother.
Amazing
My favourite 🇮🇪
Thank you Norway for giving us this masterpiece!
Thank you so much for the shoutout, and for always making top content 💜 Lovely seeing you in Trondheim, William! Wish you a speedy recovery 💜
I see a winner. It's hypnotic. Cannot believe Norway stopped sending europop viral songs. YESSSSS
Beautiful amazing nordic folk rock traditional song .Next Eurovision in Norway.Ho dont remember The Song Nocturne after so many years.Finnaly spirit. And the people from al. The World vodet thisMasterpiece
Ooooo nice reference to Nocturne 🤩
This was incredibly impressive! Her vocals as Deban put it were “beyond fire”. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 12 points from 🇦🇺
Winning 🎉🎉
My best Norways song ever in EV! Impresive! Wow! 12 points from LT
That is some LOVE ❤️
Thats not the best song 😅
This has grown on me a lot
Norway doing what Norway is at most times extremely good at and will do well. Remember Fairytale? Remember Margaret Berger? Remember Keiino? Mixing folklore with modernity in a catchy tune whilst not losing any artistic value. Norway IMHO is set for a top 10 position at LEAST, if not Top 5.
This band is really something else, love the traditional elements - and Gunnhilds voice is out of this world! Love the message about the fight agains oppression and the fight for freedom. The primal scream is for all of us, a big wake-up call!
Well. Imagine watching UK announcing their artists year after year. Then suddenly one day Muse walks out on stage. That's basically what it's like to be Norwegian right now, Gåte is that big to us and I have to pinch myself to know it's real. Probably only Kaizers Orchestra is bigger in Norway (analogy would be Coldplay although nothing alike)
“It’s difficult to relate to music that communicates in a language you don’t understand.” Hmm, shouldn’t a Eurovision fan be thinking in the opposite direction and say that good music makes sense to us no matter what language is used?
Best song by far!! I love this so much!!!
Winner winner winner! I can’t believe you didn’t even have this in your top 3… so sad, even robot song before😭 love you and all - but this is song is something Norway can be proud to send ❤️
This is the winner of 2024. period
Wow! This is a pretender for 🥇🏆 good luck 🇸🇯 kisses from🇺🇦
I like her vocals💖from💙💛
She’s so powerful!
Norge!!!! ❤❤
Love it!! ❤❤❤
I speak some Swedish, I understood most of the lyrics when I read it.
The guitarist is not her brother. Her brother left the band last year.
one of my big favourites! this entry goes hard (especially with the rhythm, thrash cords and vocals)..
Amazing voice,very storg❤
Magnus, the guitarist, is not Gunnhild 's (the singer) brother ;). Her brother is Sveinung Sundli, who played violin in the band but recently left.
wow
Nobody can seem to explain the lack of votes.
- The crowd loved it.
- The commentators loved it.
- The fans loved it.
- The world loved it
- And it's clearly the best quality song of the top 20.
But, uh, no votes apparently 🤔
Love you guys 💗💗
Old Norse is basically Icelandic so Icelandic people might understand it if they can hear and/or recognise any words from the singing
The song is in norwegian, so no.
12 points from Poland 🇵🇱
❤
I see them in roskilde they are amazing goosebumps ❤❤❤❤
This is stunning ❤
I has wondered ,when your reaction to this song of ours was coming 😅 🎊🇳🇴 I've followed you guys for a long time, and Ulveham has been my favorite for several weeks now, and of course I voted for this one on Saturday ❤️ and you William, was at the liv3 final in Mgp on Saturday, what do you think of the live performance? It was Keiino who was your favorite, right? My partner and I get goosebumps every time, (about 100 times lately 😄 haha ) from the song. I personally think this is one of the best contribution we've sent to Esc in many, many years ❗️🙌 Thanks for your reaction 🎤🎶
Thank you for watching and commenting, Anita! Seeing this live made me understand why Norwegians love it so much. The singer gave the audience energy and they gave it right back to her. It’s a very effective live performance! ❤️
❤❤❤
Best song as far as quality to ever enter Eurovision
Naaaa everyone is sleeping on this one. Love from LV
I feel the nature images could work if they could flash in the background instead of cutting in.
With LED in Malmø they wont use the overlay photos, hopefully.
Probably the best vocalist in the competition.
😍😍❤️🤘
I love this, and kind of off topic, I didnt like Måneskin personally but I feel like alot of Måneskin fans could jump on this song. If Måneskin was able to win, then I definitly think Gåte can.
PS ..... There are many of us Norwegians who understand this, perhaps a little more of us older guards (I myself am 50 years old), than the younger guards 🙌 the text is very easy to find online, the meaning in the text too , just saying 🎉🎉
“our gurl is giving birth” William, you’re killing us😂😂😂
gÅTE, ATE✅✅ love love love Norway, definitely dark horse🇸🇯🇸🇯💖 that's awesome
on having nature cutaway vs not: people have already commented this, but there’s no LED at mgp, that’s probably part of the reason. i think i prefer *the current version* (without LEDs) with cutaways, rather than the exact current version without, to break up the monotony. but in malmö i at least partially agree they could do something else (LEDs, different lighting/colors) to break it up.
i just hope it’s something that feels as good, because i think the nature shots are quite well done and convey tone, for something that’s just “screensavers.” and the danger with LED is, you don’t want it to be too bright. i think dark staging is necessary for the tone and makes the laser and “glowing fog floor” look beautiful. i think led should be used somewhat sparingly, maybe only in the last chorus. or the LED itself could be dark most of the time, perhaps it’s a dark night on the mountain with a waterfall that’s only visible on part of the screen. i just really don’t wanna detract from the gorgeous laser.
This is a very stirring vocal performance!
So far France's Slimane (Mon Amour) is my favorite song and performance for 2024.
I am 100% sure this is the winner. (Fan of ESC for 2 decades at least here.)
My personal favorites ranked as of 08/2/2024
12 pts. --- Norway
10 pts. --- Ireland
8 pts --- Slovenia
7 pts --- Luxembourg
6 pts --- Ukraine
5 pts ---- France
4 pts --- Spain
3 pts --- Czechia
2 pts --- Malta
1 pt --- Albania
My personal prediction as of same date
1st - Norway
2nd - Ukraine
3rd - Ireland
I want them to win Eurovision sooo badly
TAKK from The Family in Norway ❤❤❤
This is the old version, you have to watch the one from the finale! They had to change the lyrics, but its so much better!!!😍
6:05 "the nordic little mermaid" as if the little mermaid isnt already nordic lmao, literally invented by a danish author
Winner
10:49 Here in Norway, we all understand «nynorsk», and many of our dialects are much more like «nynorsk» than «bokmål», if compared - even if we have had «bokmål» as our written language in school. So even if only a minority write «nynorsk» in school as they grow up, it is not understood by a minority. We all learn both written languages in school too, though I can’t say we were very motivated back when I was in school (a long time ago), LOL. «Nynorsk» is also used in TV, newspapers etc. alongside the more commonly used «bokmål», so we all have to deal with both language versions on a daily basis.
Gåte ❤
❤Gåte❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
So the nature images with Keiiono last year was ok, but this year no? (No problem with that last year)
So unique! It sounds like early 2000s rock songs tho
The guitarist is not her brother, though.
Gunnhild’s brother is actually Sveinung, he’s temporarily leaving the band. He plays the violin incredibly well and helped Gåte to find his characteristic ethnic sound since the beginning of the career.
@@mattfiddler7690 He basically started the band and dragged the then 13/14-year old Gunnhild with him. And he's in indeed also the main song writer. The siblings have a background from folk music.
The singer’s voice reminds me of Iceland’s Bjork - hopefully that reference will silence the people (incorrectly) saying she is screaming
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's not old norse. It's a Norwehian dialect and they use "kulokk". Long time ago women used this "lokk" to call the cows home for the night.
The staging is good, however, I don't think it's melodically strong enough to win ESC. Strong entry though.
I like this song and Ukraine 🇺🇦
I’m Norwegian but I have no clue what she’s saying😭😭
Its not Goon u
Gunn-hild
We want reaction to Zorra with Deban.
It was done before this, but may not get published because there's already a reaction from a wiwiblogger online.
😮😳😳😳🫣🫣🫣
“She is giving birth” hahaha 😂😂
Hi ...not "Gute" the "Å" is more like the sound when You say : I am in "awe" of someone or something.. = Gåte = "Gowte" = Riddle... 🙂👍👍
Like the visuals but as for the song - too much screaming - not great vocals.
Wiwibloogs was sooo biased. 👎Keiino Damdiggida final only has 28 000 views on CZcams. MONUMENT had around 900 000 after they lost for Tix. A lot of people love Ulveham. The song is a masterpice.
it's just too much for me, too much noise and too much lightning
8:15 William says she is singing she it's not screaming, 1 second later: This reminds me of AWS, that lead singer screamed
8:25 This woman Gunnhild she is screaming, I mean not screaming she is singing through screams
Stop beating around the bush already william and just say what you really feel
Non norwegian people won't like this and this won't even qualify as it's weird and unconnectable!
PFF. You keep talking in between.....
a picture lost the song from u..adhd maybe
