  • In this video I show the steps of changing the hydraulic oil on my John Deere 5310 tractor, including a battle with a filter that seemed welded on. I also remove and clean the pickup screen as part of this recommended 1,200-hour service.

I like to use one of those giant party buckets with the rope handles that holds the beer and ice at get-togethers to catch the oil.
I have also used one of those cheap plastic pumps that you put on a drill motor to transfer the oil from the 5 gal bucket into the tractor, works pretty good; can also pump the drain oil around for disposal.
    Thanks for the video.

That oil you're draining out looks pretty clean.

I think the reason for the filter being so difficult is because of the suction created by emptying the oil out and putting the drain plug back in. It would have came off if you’d have done it without the drain plug in.

Sounds logical to me. Will make a note for next time. That the filter had probably been on there 10 years likely didn't help matters. Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much for the video. I have a 2008 5303 JD 4wd coming up to the 1000hr suggested Trans oil change. Always like to watch a video, yours was Great! Thanks Just trying to figure out where my screen housing is located, the JD book shows a picture, I'll just have to crawl under to locate it, yours appears to be next to your PTO, mine looks like it may be elsewhere. thanks again subscriber now

Most forget the filter in the back. My screen filter was plugged, and my 3 point hitch lift was not working properly.
