This is brilliant - The scene between Hilary (Peter Bowles) and Rigsby ( Leonard Rossiter); and at the end with Francis da la Tour (Miss Jones) and Hilary (Peter Bowles) is true Gold... It's the build-up and the reading of those lines that makes it...What a scene...it just makes you laugh out loud
This has been my favourite episode especially when Rigsby rehearsal with Hillary on the couch and he puts he's hand on Rigsbys leg absolutely hilarious
For sheer constant hilarity, Rising Damp can't be beaten. This episode is sidesplittingly funny from start to finish, and for me it's the best episode of the lot. Peter Bowles added to an already fantastic cast of actors was sheer magic. Brilliant writing from Eric Chappell, and brilliant performances from the whole cast.
Nearly agree, this was timeless brilliant comedy but if you dig deep you will come across excellent abrasive comedy thats less formulaic than the usual comedy...i.e. The Office, Peep Show. They are out there.
Alan thought Hilary(Peter Bowles) fancied him,Miss Jones fancied Hilary and Philip,Rigsby fancied Miss Jones, then Rigsby thought Hilary fancied him,,,,I actually had tears in my eyes laughing everytime I watched this
I love this episode the kiss at the end makes me howl. Also come on in the waters lovely the line "you mean i stood you up and you weren't even standing there" is hilarious.

It's a shame that most of the time their heads are cut off, cause the expressions on their faces are what makes them so so funny, Especially Rigsbys. But am grateful to you for putting these old comedys on for us to enjoy thank you.
Life's a hollow sham, a lousy hollow sham....no it's not Maggie, it's a lousy cage, life's a lousy cage...No it's not Slim it's a sham, a lousy hollow sham LOL
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
I love Rising Damp, but this is a disaster. When Peter Bowles makes his first appearance, his face can't be seen because the aspect ratio is incorrect. Facial expressions are vital in comedy, whoever uploaded this hasn't got a clue.
carl brown It's brilliant - The scene between Hilary (Peter Bowles) and Rigsby ( Leonard Rossiter) is true Gold.... Its the build-up and the reading of those lines that makes it....What a scene
The politically incorrect news, with all the time that's past since this was made, .ages it both fascinating and probably even funnier than it may have been at the time and for different reasons. Mind you, the Rigsby character was a catalyst of of combinations of lower-middle class tabloid reader's views, and as such usually came out the lower. Much like with "Love Thy Neighbor" where the wives were sane and got on, and the comedy came from the nonsense racist views of the two, black and white, husbands. And, like Rigsby, were usually the ones left looking like fool. So, despite their being immersed in the prevailing culture of the time, had very forward-looking prompts. But, yeh. Miss Jones and Rigsby? Hilarious chemistry.
Absolute comedy gold from everyone involved in Rising Damp. Sadly missing from todays world of telly entertainment. God bless them all.
Probably one of the BEST commedies ever in the world.

ever decreasing circles was probably Britain's last good sit com, todays alternative comedy is simply an "alternative" to comedy
Nearly agree, this was timeless brilliant comedy but if you dig deep you will come across excellent abrasive comedy thats less formulaic than the usual comedy...i.e. The Office, Peep Show. They are out there.

Rossiter was a genius. Him, Ronnie Barker and John Cleese were the ones, the best British comedy actors of all time for me.
Brilliant stuff altogether....my favorite is ,'The cocktail hour'... Hilarious 😄
Pink Carnations is mine 🤣🤣🤣
This episode changed Peter Bowles's career, he went on to be a brilliant comedy performer, To the Manor Born is fantastic.
He practically played the same chracter as hillary in only when I laugh. Obviously written by Eric Chapman too.
Life's a hollow sham, a lousy hollow sham....no it's not Maggie, it's a lousy cage, life's a lousy cage...No it's not Slim it's a sham, a lousy hollow sham LOL
Where were YOU when they were handed out?" lol. Scars you.

This was the funniest program in the whole series
Peter Bowles was actually in I Claudius, he played King Caractacus in the final episode.
This is so well written and well-acted: great actors acting the part of bad actors is great acting indeed.
Rigsby is priceless thoughthey were all brilliant .

6.00head on a pole
Formatting is awful. Can’t see the heads most of the time.
i love rigsby, for giving so many people joy and laughter
Only bettered by Love thy neighbour….
Either put a proper video up that has the entire image on screen or delete your account.
Can you do better
In Britain we have 'series', not 'seasons'.
